I have always liked this store but the last time I went in there it was my birthday and very cold out side and my dad called to wish me a happy birthday and the cashier told me not to talk on the phone in the store… I thought that was weird and rude, I wonder if your aloud to talk to other customers in the store? Anyway I was gonna. By something but me and my girlfriend left at that very instant. I may sound rude but I just think that it was very strange of him to say that. Four stars still but I’ll leave if I see him again

Loved the idea that this natural food store is located in an old church. Shopped here while visiting Mendocino after I couldn’t find vegan chocolates at the local bakeries. So glad to be able to walk into this store and find a whole rack of vegan goodies, not to mentioned pretty fruits and veggies. Went back the next morning for tea!

Not much to say except if you’ve been to Whole Foods you will recognize that this is a mini W.F. Some of the products sold here are sold at W. F too. Prices are similar and the feeling when you step in is eerily very W.F. Lol. It is awesome! Oh yeah!

A small town co op old style health food store. Don’t miss the upstairs bulk section. The staff can be sleepy and un helpful to tourists, but don’t let that drive you away. Find fresh organic produce, and healthy hard to find staples. A great place to find small amounts of quality foodstuffs while you’re traveling.

A grocery market made in heaven! Literally. Housed in the old Mendocino Baptist Church(circa 1894), this petite co-op has all your kitchen needs. I swear everything must have been dusted by Angels because it all looks so darn neat, clean and pleasing to the eyes. Friendly staff works here. I asked about the history of the building and got a 3 minute history lesson. I was then proudly shown pictures of the past. You can tell they take pride in their market! The produce section looks good enough to pick up anything and bite right into it. Fresh bread is supplied by none other than Café Beaujolais! Get some to take for a picnic, at any one of the amazing beaches along the coast. Slap some butter on… Mmmmm yum! A walk down the grains section will fulfill all your oatmeal, trail-mix cravings to the max. No sugar crashing on your hike here! Forget something on your visit to Mendocino, stroll down the household aisle. The section for toiletries will turn anyones medicine cabinet into a wall of beauty. Some of my favored products are on the shelves, along with more that clearly I should know about. They shelve both standard and travel size of some products. Check out the tincture and medicinal shelf near the cash register on your way out, surely you will find something that heals the soul and puts a smile on your face.

If you love tea, GOHERE! They have a most wonderful little upstairs nook with two walls filled with every kind of tea you could ever want, including herbals, greens, whites, and blacks, each with loose leaf and bagged tea in bulk and in packages. I perused the selection for a while, drooling the whole time, and decided on some jasmine green tea, decaf India green, blackberry sage black, and chai rooibos. So far I’ve tried the blackberry sage and the chai, and both are really outstanding. Upstairs, you’ll also find bulk spices galore. Downstairs, while not quite as magical as the upstairs to me, is also pretty great. It’s filled with all sorts of foods you’d expect to find at a natural food store: fake milks, the obligatory iced tea(probably kombucha? I can’t remember, but it’s that kind of place)/coconut milk/mate cold case up front, fair trade chocolates, all my favorite natural and gluten free brands, and a good little stock of supplements. I’m already dreaming of my next bulk tea adventure here… I guess I’ll just have to plan another Mendocino vacation!

I’ve been a fan of this place for 30 years even if decades go by between visits. It’s a solid part of the community offering quality products and informed service. The free box ain’t what it used to be, but the spirit of place is solid.

This store was a few doors down from the hotel we stayed at and it was the best! We discovered some amazing products, such as: – local kombucha with a reusable bottle that you return to the store to get your $ 2 back – Koyo organic, vegetarian ramen($ 1.39/pack) and DELICIOUS – upstairs there are tea bags sold individually for around 10– to 15-cents each. As a habitual sampler, this was about 10,000% better than having to buy 10 boxes of tea that I’ll never finish Man, too bad Mendocino is so far from the Bay Area. Not as far as say, from China, but still far nonetheless. This is a great store, and I HIGHLY recommend a visit!

We nearly didn’t get past the bulk honey selection — and probably wouldn’t have if we had brought a glass jar(or bucket). We ended up with a small prepackaged jar this time, but we’ll hit the bulk next time. Corners lists the country of origin of many foods, and the farm of origin for some. The aisles are no wider than they need to be — it’s cozy but not cramped.

This was the #1 place I was looking forward to visiting when I got to Mendocino. And it didn’t disappoint. A holistic collective of vegan, vegetarian, organic, and regular items. Small market but packed with lots of options. I especially loved the serve yourself bulk wildflower honey you pour yourself. Upstairs there is a nice selection of bulk spices and herbs, bulk tea and tea bags they sell individually. Very cool as it allowed me to discover a new Republic of Tea Almond Honey tea for a meager 15 cents. They were courteous enough to let me use the restroom(which was an outhouse… hey, so things are a bit ‘natural’ in Mendocino…) Small selection of fruits and vegetables but they also sell vitamins and supplements in singles so you can try anything. Very cool spot. Open 8am to 8pm. Liberal newsletter. Worth a read for a light chuckle.

We walked in on a whim just to check out the digs since the bf works for a grocery store and loves to check out different places. Well organized, good selection and the building itself is such an interesting structure. The people who rung us up were super friendly. Be forewarned, make sure your cell phone is OFF before entering :)

Stopped in to check out the fruit, ended up buying some pretty cool scarves at a much more reasonable price than the trendy shop down the street. Very friendly, homey atmosphere.

I made this a destination on my Mendo vacation based purely on the Unilocal reviews and was pretty disappointed. I expected something in a church that rivaled Rainbow in innovation and selection. The reality is it’s a co-op grocery store, with Mendo prices(i.e. overpriced) that carries the basics that a true co-op should stock. I did see someone donated a basket full of yellow-dock roots which was nice. There is a good community vibe and the staff are nice. It’s really a 4-star place but I felt the need to balance out the other Unilocal reviews, so 3 stars it is.

I must be honest that I only bought some snacks for a lunch as I recall. The selection of things that incorporate soy and tempeh is very good here. I personally loved going upstairs to the bulk spices and seeing what kind of cool things that they had available. There also was this funky shrine above your head as you came back downstairs. I got a little hippie pretension from one of the guys working there. Probably was my «I love George W. Bush t-shirt.» No seriously, guy was probably having an off day, but chill and help me find that Vegan cheese that actually melts already.

I wasn’t going to review this place, but for you, Johnny… Corners of the Mouth is the quintessential organic /holistic /natural foods store. The building is an old church and it stands out beautifully on Ukiah Street. Upstairs houses the teas and spices /herbs(I believe this was once the choir loft). Downstairs has the refrigerated section, fresh produce, dry goods, and a very good selection of green living gadgets, etc. I checked the prices on the organic produce and it seemed in line with what one would pay at Whole Foods or similar markets. The staff is very friendly and I hear the trail mix is great.

While wandering the streets of Mendocino, we first thought this health food store was a church. In fact, it used to be, and still has lovely stained glass and all the features of a traditional chapel. There is even a sign requesting that cell phones be turned off due to «technological sensitivity». Lots of organic produce and natural products you probably wouldn’t find anywhere else. Local flavor abounds. Make sure you venture upstairs. It’s a cozy little corner with books and exotic teas and herbal remedies. The church choir probably used to be seated in this little balcony, and it overlooks the whole bottom level of the store. Kinda cool. I found the experience of shopping here a reflective one, as I contemplated the connection between body, mind and spirit.

A small but mighty natural foods co-op store that is worker owned and run. It has been around forever. It’s amazing how big their inventory is despite their small space. Plenty of organic fruits and veggies, fresh bread from local bakeries, toiletries, frozen foods and interesting items such as Guatemalan clothing(I got a beautiful scarf for around $ 6) as well as all the basics. If you are anti-Hippie you may be put off by the Hippie-ish ambiance. But we loved the vibe. Staff is friendly. Most of their customers seem to be locals who are greeted by name.
