Hidden Pond Tree Farm

This is in no way a cut your own tree down farm!!! Unless you are looking for a Charlie Brown Xmas tree !! All trees in the field are less than 3 feet tall !! They have pre cut trees in which they must have shipped in !! Tree prices range from 75 up. This place was a super disappointment !!

Frustrated.
Positives first — hot chocolate and marshmallows with a fire! Kids loved that part. They also loved the hayride to the top of the farm.
Negatives — no trees. Sure you’ll find landscaping 20footers. Others were super small. They had — big tree in the cut any tree for 50 and they told me it would be at least 150. Strange advertising.
Precut trees are 75 at cheapest (and at 6 ft) 10 footers are 150. Seriously.
My kids were so disappointed
Giving 3 stars because of the hot chocolate hayride and marshmallows. Otherwise it would have been a 1 or 2 star review.

Went back for 2015! Had a great time. Went on opening day at about 4pm. We took a the hayride around the farm and realized how huge this place really is. They hayride was awesome and along the way there were several places to stop grab a saw, roast marshmallows, or just jump on stacks of hay. We choose not to saw down our own tree but we did get a great 7 foot beauty that they gladly took care of for us. We ran into Chris again and he was very pleasant. Will surely continue to recommend this place and encourage you to visit.

This review is long overdue… but I want to say that this place is Fabulous. We have gone for the last 3 years. Chris, the owner, and his staff really get you in the spirit of Christmas. We went very late this year to get a tree so when we arrived there were only pre-​cut trees available. My boys had their heart set on cutting a tree down. So Chris directed us to another farm so we could cut down our tree but told us to come back for Hot Chocolate and roasting marshmallows, which we did, of course another must have for my boys. Hidden Tree Pond puts the spirit of Christmas as top priority. You can’t get any better than that. We will be back next year!

I spent a lot of time looking on line Thanksgiving evening to find the best place for our first experience cutting our own Christmas tree. Something I’ve always wanted to do and now with a 6 yr old, figured it was the perfect time. SO, we chose this place, the website was so inviting. we drove over an hour to get there, beautiful drive, lovely drive way, and arrived on their opening day to a fully staffed, fires a going, marshmallows roasting, hot chocolate pouring adventure. We were so excited. We hopped on the hay ride with hot chocolate in hand, to take us up to the field where the you-​cut-​your own farm was, and there were plenty of saws to use too, only there were NO TREES! they dropped us off. and told us we’d probably not find anything above 5 feet, if at all. There literally were maybe 4 or 5 trees that height, all the rest were 2 feet. not ready for several more years. The very few that were 5 feet were cut today. some families were determined and just settled on the smaller tree and cut them right there. If I had to guess, all of the 5 foot trees are gone now. But, we had a lovely walk on the farm, in the snow (bundle up, wear boots) looking. It was beautiful. I agree with the other reviewer about the BAIT AND SWITCH. They should be more upfront about what they have to offer. We loved the hot cocoa and marshmallow roasting. fantastic. perfect set up. the only thing missing was the trees. They have a nice set up with pre=cut trees. that they brought in from … Pennsylvania. We figured we had come all this way, we’d better go home with a tree. so we bought one… a beautiful Fraisure fur (I think that’s it. it’s got stiff branches for decorating) … but it was expensive. We paid $ 75. for a (barely) 7 foot tree. (its a tad small when we brought it home. but it’s beautiful and we think will last through the season. They were cut on WED. so they say? THe least expensive trees were Douglass for $ 65. The cut your own are $ 50. but there are none to cut. Just know that going in. if you’re going for a cut your own tree. this is NOT the place. If your’e going for a day in the country. and you’ll buy your tree on the lot and pay a bit more than the nursery… for the experience, then it’s worth it. they had some really pretty boxwood wreaths. small ones around $ 30. square shaped around $ 40. Tree stands were $ 40. (if you’re budget minded. buy your tree stand elsewhere. I got the same one last year at Home Depot for half that).
they have a nice variety of LARGE TREES. that were $ 150. plus… if you have a big home, this would be a good place to find a large tree. There were some extra large trees in the cut your own area. but they all had «SOLD» stickers on them.
all in all. we had a wonderful day. I think I will call ahead next year to find out if there are trees on the farm to cut ourselves.

Total bait and switch. Drove an hour to discover they had literally NO trees ready to be cut. None. But they did have a ton of pre-​cut trees. Obviously, not what I was looking for!!! I’d respect them if their website gave me the head’s up. Really lousy of them to offer no warning until you are at their doorstep!

Went here a couple times in a row. The organic thing is appealing, the trees are nice, but I think this place is past its prime. They instituted a queue to manage the amount of people parking in the lot and on the access road which was a great idea. You can move through the line pretty easily.
The problem for us is we have 10 ft ceilings. This means we need a big tree. The prices vary, but to get a tree over 7 feet, its supposed to be about 75 $. There are essentially none of those trees. Its either a little tree around 5 feet tall for 50ish bucks or it was 150 $ for anything bigger. We walked all over the whole place and the trees were either gigantic and 150 $, a not nice looking tree, or way too small. After this year, I dont see how there will be any decent trees left.
I like the place a lot, but we had to actually leave empty handed. We went earlier in the season than we ever have before and were disappointed with the selection. We will have to find a new spot (the one we used for a stand in this year wasnt great either).
FYI: They do have hot chocolate, fires to roast marshmallows, a hayride, and very friendly staff.

Hidden Pond Tree Farm was a wonderful experience! The staff was helpfull, warm and friendly. There was hot chocolate for all, a little wood burning fire to keep warm while you wait for the hayrides and overall the perfect tree hunting experience! Pick your own or have a precut tree that are still freshly cut.
A Plus! We will come here again next year and look forward to this becoming a tradition. :)
TIP:
I would recommend going earlier in the day than later as it does get crowded. In order to keep the parking lot and costumers in-​and-​out only a certain amount of cars are allowed in lot so you may have to wait in a line of cars to get in. But no worries because its not as long/​bad as you may think.

This year, taking into account my passion to patronize local businesses and my love of Christmas, I thought it would be a fun outing to find a Christmas Tree Farm in New Jersey and chop down our own tree! I went to college in Connecticut, where tree farms are about a dime a dozen but in my neck of the NJ woods, I had never seen a tree farm before. So with a quick internet search and narrowing it down to nearby family farms that take pride in the environment, I quickly found Hidden Pond Tree Farm (I even love the name!)
I called up the number and wound up speaking to the owner with a few questions. You can chop down your own tree with a small metal saw provided (or bring your own hand saw) or a staff member can cut the tree down for you with a chain saw. The prices ran about $ 50 — $ 95. They also have trees cut down and onsite for you to peruse. They only cut down as many as they think they can sell in a given weekend, so the trees are fresh.
So I picked a weekend we were free and planned to go tree hunting! Unfortunately, that day happened to be today. I knew there was a rain storm coming in the afternoon so we got up early and headed out the door by 9:30am for the 45 minute drive. Within 15 minutes, the storm hit and we saw car accidents left and right. Undeterred, we pressed on.
Once we arrived at the tree farm, you could see it’s a small family run business that has been built with a lot of care. The entrance is a small, one car lane dirt road leading to a back hill. The parking lot is a decent size — wear good shoes and dress warmly because it’s muddy and cold out there! Once on the property, you walk uphill to the rows and rows of trees to pick out one for yourself. Since it was storming out, we left the dog in the car; they allow dogs onsite but heed the sign as you enter «Unleashed animals will be recruited for reindeer!» Also, since it was raining, we asked a staff member to cut down the tree for us — so much for chopping down our own tree this year! As much as I would have liked that experience, I am so grateful that the tree farm provides a plan B just in case! Our tree was carted off and delivered up front where it was bundled up and brought to the car. If it isn’t too busy, the staff will help secure the tree to the roof (there is also help yourself bundling by the parking spots.) There was a young kid that helped us among the crew of older men, and you could tell he was in training for many Christmases ahead!
(My ONLY caveat! I wish they grew a bigger variety of trees/​had more smaller pre-​cut trees of different varieties. My Norway Spruce is prickily!!)
