If you live in an area that they have deemed «desireable», then don’t bother appealing your assessment, even if it’s $ 50,000 more than you paid for the house a year ago. They will cursorily look at your carefully prepared documentation — which you brought at the advice of the hearing officer you saw a few months ago — and dismiss it. Nevermind that you spent the last two hours listening to them granting the appeals of those ahead of you residing in «less than desireable» locations. Someone has to pay the taxes that those people aren’t paying — and it will be you.

Actually at Board of Equalization building, waiting for Hearing. Staff is excellent and helpful.
i am surprised that they meet in an old house. My appointment is for 10 am., it is now 10:45 am.m. and there are at least 8 people in front of me.
I can’t blame the Board or staff, it is a result of poor planning by Shelby County Government. The Board and staff is making the best of a bad situation, although I don’t know why they schedule so poorly. I guess to discourage people from appealing their appraisals!
I can understand trying to save money by using existing buildings as long as possible (it is clean and in good repair), but this goes to extremes and really leaves a negative impression of Shelby County Government.
I undersand limited budgets, limited staff, but…
i sure don’t plan on coming back!
