If you are a male make sure to ask for a barber otherwise you may end up with someone who doesn’t specialize in men’s cuts. Great customer service, a free beer (or non-​alc beverage), and they did a great job!

Find a trusted stylist/​barber and you will never need Unilocal again… in the meantime Roosters will do the job.
Finding a trusted stylist is an incredibly difficult job. With time a stylist evolves from your hair consultant and becomes a therapist, constructive critic, coach, and friend. The best case is having a trusted source refer you to a great shop or person, but most of us have to travel the road of «hit and miss».
Having recently moving to the area, I am in the camp of «searching for the right place» and Rooster’s has been a reliable stand-​in. They offer appreciated amenities such as shaving, facials, and other nice touches like a hot towel on the face while shampooing/​conditioning. Additionally, if of age, you can enjoy a beer while you wait.
It should be noted however that Roosters is a franchise and has taken great measures to brand themselves as an «old school barber shop updated for the modern man». They do not require their employees to have a barbers license, although some do. It is very possible for you to receive a cut from a person with limited mens cuts experience. So, if the classic straight raze shave and barber level of expertise is what you seek, you better request a qualified staff member or look onward.
To be fair, the majority of the ladies I have personally dealt with are quite capable to deliver a great cut. However, I have not found «the one» yet… so in the meantime I shall continue with Roosters as my backup.

I’m sorry I’ll never be coming back to this place because it does have some positive features. My stylist gave me a very good hair cut on my first visit, a month ago, and the décor and ambience of the place suggest a bit of old-​fashioned masculine glamor. It’s literally 2 minutes from where I live and next door to one of my favorite restaurants. I am the type who likes to find a good service provider and stick with that person or business literally for years, and a month ago, I seriously thought I had found my haircut place for years to come.
Alas, it is not to be. I didn’t smell marijuana when I was here, but after what happened today, I have to wonder if this place is run by people who are stoned. After I complimented my stylist a month ago, told her I would certainly be back to have her cut my hair, and stood there while she personally entered my next appointment in the computer for 4 weeks in the future (i.e., today at 6 p.m.), I learned only today that she didn’t bother to schedule my appointment with *her,* personally, and left for the day at 1 this afternoon, 5 hours before I arrived! She made an «appointment» for me, all right, but only with whoever happened to be there and available at 6 today.
Not suspecting any of this, I walked in at 6. I was pleasantly surprised to see the front desk staffed today, which it wasn’t the last time I was there, though the pierced, tattooed young thing sitting there didn’t exactly go along with the overall atmosphere of the place and seemed a bit out of the loop, an impression that was confirmed as time went on.
I announced my name and the fact that I had an appointment with my stylist, whose name I specified, for 6 p.m. It never crossed the young woman’s mind to simply tell me that my stylist had left for the day 5 hours before; instead, she simply invited me to take a seat and wait.
After a quarter of an hour with no sign of my stylist, I wondered what was up. One of the employees asked me if I was waiting, and I reiterated that I had an appointment with my stylist, who I again named, for 6 p.m. This seemed to have acted as a sudden reality check on the oblivious young desk girl, who finally checked the computer and then informed me that my appointment was not with my stylist but with «just anyone» (her exact words).
Such a cavalier approach to customer service was beyond belief. There was a rather timid fellow who also worked there, perhaps in his 40s or 50s, who seemed confused and helpless over the whole thing, and overall, the impression they both gave was that it was hard for them to get their heads around my expectation that I would come there and have my hair cut by a certain person at a certain time on a certain day. The attitude seemed to be «Please, let’s not be overly demanding… we promise not to leave before waiting on you, and you’re welcome to hang around for as long as you like, and sooner or later, you may actually get your hair cut… let’s just go with the flow, shall we?»
The pity is that all this was recoverable. I have worked in customer service and public contact businesses before and have been similarly caught in situations of which I had no prior knowledge, faced with a seriously annoyed customer. Had these two employees shown any sense of urgency about the value of my time, I wouldn’t be posting this review. I wasn’t really expecting much out of the 19-​year-​old girl and should perhaps be grateful that she didn’t remove an ear bud connected to her iPod and say «Huh» when I addressed her, but if the middle-​aged man had had any sense, he would have said something like «Sir, I’m very sorry for this mistake. Your time is valuable, and you came here expecting a firm appointment today with a particular provider, and you have been made to wait for no reason. We dropped the ball. That’s not the way we treat our customers, and I want to know what I can do to make it up to you.»
That is certainly what I would have done. And after the customer was gone, I would have called the stylist and told her in no uncertain terms that her carelessness was unacceptable.
All this seemed beyond the capacities of the timid, clueless man I talked to. I left without getting my hair cut.
When I logged on to compose this review, my eye was caught by the comments of Jay G., several reviews down, posted in February, who had an experience with their lackadaisical service a great deal worse even than mine. Unless you have nothing to do and nowhere to go, I urge anyone to read Jay G.‘s review carefully and take it seriously before going to Roosters. In fact, they really ought to change their name from Roosters to Turkeys.

I have been searching for a good men’s haircut and stylist for three years and I finally found one! Thank you Sonya for a great cut today! I appreciate your attention to detail and recommendations.

This used to be my place to get haircuts and beard maintenance but it has fallen hard from favor. I know how barbershops work and how busy they can get therefore I always make appointments for when they open. That being said today I showed up at nine when they opened and only to find out that the person who cuts my hair was not going to be in until 11 and that they apologized and would call me back once he came in. They did not call, I had to call them. I stressed that it was an anniversary of my wife and I and that it was imperative I see my barber. I just received a call from the owner stating that he could get me in at 4 which is too late due to dinner arrangements I have set for my anniversary. Remember I had a nine AM appointment. The owner was never sincere about how the situation turned out. I just think it is sad since I have been trading here for over two years. This is not the first time something like this has happened. Back in October I had an appointment for over a month and they did not inform me that my barber, whom had already been on for vacation, was not going to be there. I was really upset that they could not have found time in the past month to inform me of this and to come in on another day. I guess it like the old saying,“fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me”. I remember this well because this was my birthday last year so I got no fresh birthday cut. Very unreliable, unprofessional, and just bad business to a loyal patron of over two years.

Found this place on Unilocal,and let me tell you, I’m impressed! Leonore knew exactly what I needed ! I was offered a drink, sure took a water bottle. I’m super impressed! The prices are affordable. I will come back as long as I live in Memphis. Highly recommend this place

I was the first one at the door and made to wait. Sorry people were late for their appointment or their stylist was late but I got bumped. I’ve had appointments there before and have had to wait on walk ins. Sportclips from now on

My husband and I recently moved to Memphis and we are having a hard time finding not only good place where to eat but also all other type of services. Thanks to Unilocal my searching experience has been a little bit easier. I found this place through Unilocal and I was worried to tell my husband to try it because he has had the worst experience ever with hair cuts (he has a very complicated hair lol). Well, we went to thi place and thankfully the reviews were so right. This place is very good! The lady who helped my husband was not only good at her job but so nice and attentive. She was fast and she did an great job. My hubby looked so handsome after his haircut. my hubby will be back for sure.

Great for regular hair cut but not specialize haircut like flat tops. Where it takes a lot of time and patience to do, due to staring.
You really get pampered here with hot towel and shampoo. You will feel clean and ready take on to world just after this experience.
Too bad they don’t do good flat top. I could be a regular.
We’ll off to wild blue yonder to find a barber that does a flat top with a pair of scissor.

Both of my sons (ages 20 and 16) have been to Roosters on the Living Social offer. Most recently, my father in law went and had the shave and haircut. All three had top notch experiences. They were so pleased with their cuts and the service they received. My father in law had his first ever professional shave and was so impressed that it was done with a straight razor… which he observed being prepared on a strap the old fashioned way! My family of «roosters» will be going back. Thank you, Lenore, for the great service.

Not too bad, got a decent haircut and shave. Would have preferred a straight razor but I didn’t have to do it so I won’t gripe. Prices are fair, especially given what I used to pay in NYC.
I’ll be back I do believe.

Needed a haircut and found this place on Unilocal.Walked in on Saturday afternoon and one of the hair cutters spoke. Short wait. Lenore cut my hair. Very professional and she did an excellent job. She understood exactly what I wanted. Introduced me to the owner.
Definitely will go back! Great guy place, football game was on.

Complete disappointment.
Face was cold most of the shave (which by the way was with a Bic).
Haircut was good overall, but had to sit in the waiting area for the shave from another peraon… completw pamper buzz loss.
On a positive note, my beer was cold.

Great experience. Walked in and waited maybe 10 minutes without an appointment. Was greeted with hellos and offered a beer. Carolyne did an excellent job cutting my hair. We discussed how I wanted my hair cut and she did it exactly how I wanted it. I will be returning in a few weeks for a free neck touch up and will remain a loyal customer.

Came back today for a haircut and shave. While the services were good, the prices were not. A haircut and shave will fetch you $ 45. Separately, a haircut is $ 25 and a shave is $ 20. I asked the woman working the counter if there was a combo deal for getting both together and she said no. The end result of the shave was no better than I get at home with some extra lotions and hot/​cold towels thrown in. I think a smarter buy would be a combo shave/​haircut for $ 35. That I would do. However, for $ 45, I won’t be back for both services. I know the owner, Steve M, is on here and checks Unilocal often.

Pricing is reasonable, I had the $ 25 haircut and shampoo. Make sure you do the shampoo massage! It was very relaxing. A hot towel is put over your face during the massage — definitely a manly experience to be had. When I first walked in I was greeted and welcomed. As soon as I sat down to wait, one of the girls asked me if I wanted a water, coke, or beer! A gentleman sitting next to me was finishing his brew just after his haircut watching TV. All in all, it was a highly recommended experience. It’s «salon» results without all the ridiculous «whodunit» drama from all the clucking hens at your wife’s/girlfriend’s salon. Thank God! That in and of itself is worth going to Roosters. Highly recommend asking for Carolyne (pronounced Car-​o-​line). She was extremely professional, friendly, and knew her way around a man’s head of hair. If you’re a dude, check this place out — you won’t regret it!

Recently went here and got a haircut from Carolyne. Best haircut ever, she was professional, friendly, and made sure that I got exactly what I wanted. If you go there, make sure you ask for Carolyne. This is a classy place and Carolyne is a classy lady!

Had my ears lowered today and have to say I was very impressed with Roosters. My hair is very difficult to cut; it’s thick, course and very stubborn. If its cut poorly, every imperfection shows. The owner of Roosters recommended Lenore, who apparently is one of their more seasoned hair cutters. She was extremely pleasant and very competent. I was impressed with the customer service from the phone call to the haircut.
The barber chairs are very comfortable and who doesn’t love a place that offers up a nice cold beer while you wait or while your getting your hair cut. I’ll definitely be back!

Short of getting a haircut and scalp massage in Bangkok, this is great. This is way better than going to Supercuts every few weeks for a #2 all over. I got a complete haircut like in the olden days, including doing the back of my neck.
Great service, friendly barbers, serve you a frothy drink while you’re waiting, and while you’re getting a haircut. Now I know why women have been going to Hair Saloons all the time. They have a good menu of services, including free neck trims between haircuts.
I really enjoyed the services and pampering and I’ll definitely be back.
