I’ve been to several optometrists in Memphis over the years and this one is my favorite and the one I intend to stick with. What makes it the best are the people who work there. They’ve always been friendly, welcoming, and focused — unlike many other such offices in Memphis which are staffed with inner-​city-​style surly laziness.
The location is convenient and safe with plentiful parking. The hours are very convenient as they are open on Saturdays. The interior is warm and welcoming yet modern and updated.

When I first started looking for a new optometrist, I consulted Unilocal and this business had good reviews so I decided to give them a try. The doctors and staff are very friendly. Each time I come, I’m welcomed by the front desk staff, techs, and whichever Doctor I see.
On one of my most recent visits, I was getting contacts for the first time. Dr. Nance explained how wearing contacts works, benefits of contacts (no more being blind while I go running!) and how I’d wear them. A tech also sat with me and helped talk me through putting contacts in and taking them out for the first time. The tech was very patient with me and gave me really good tips. The great customer service was really appreciated because I was very nervous about getting contacts!
I have a good experience eat time I come here and I would definitely recommend this business to anyone looking for an optometrist.

I would recommend them to anyone. Staff is great, Dr. Hines is patient and willing to answer any questions. I’ve had problems with my contacts in the past, high Rx so they’re made each time I order, and they always take care of any issues. Never have a long wait to be seen.

Well above all else I must start with this: I was a new patient here on my visit and they saw me ON TIME. Most offices have a nurse/​tech come moseying out 20 minutes after your scheduled appointment. Not here…
Once I was called back I had the most fun I have ever had at an eye doctor. I’ve been wearing them longer than I haven’t, so I’ve been to my fair share. The conversation with the technician running my tests was so nice we forgot that we were supposed to be doing tests. When Dr. Hines walked in, his personality was even more delightful! He’s very personable and communicative and has an interest in taking care of his patients.
The coup de grace for me were the opticians. They were the loveliest ladies I’ve met all year. Helped me AND a friend pick out some amazing glasses that fit our face. I’m a glasses snob so I immediately check out a places designer eyewear selection (I called ahead to make sure they had suitable frames). Not only do they know the technicalities, they also add a sense of eyewear fashion!

If you go to any other optometrist you should be committed. I have seen Dr. Tacker and Dr. Nance over 10+ years and know that you cannot go wrong with either. They are courteous and kind, asking questions about your eyes and overall health, showing interest in you as a person. The sales staff members are very knowledgable about fit and comfort of glasses. They will even tell you whether a pair looks good on you! The front desk was very welcoming and was ready to help me begin my appointment. I am very happy with my glasses and will continue going to Optometry Group for years to come.

I feel like I lucked out by finding this eye doctor on Unilocal — thanks, Joelle! They scheduled me with no problem and actually saw me ON TIME despite the fact that I needed to fill out new patient paperwork (which is also available online if you are super-​efficient and want to fill it out ahead of time, unlike me).
Great selection of frames, contacts in stock so I didn’t have to order them, and they were very clear about what would be covered by my insurance, with no pressure to buy things not covered. I saw a friendly and efficient doctor who had me out in less than an hour with an appropriate pair of contacts.
Parking is convenient in the lot outside. One thing to know before you go, which they have posted up all over the office: refraction, which is something they do to get your prescription, is not covered by most insurance (including Medicaid). I’m guessing they get a lot of questions or concerns about this — the cost of this is $ 30, so no matter what kind of vision coverage you have, you can bet you’ll need to pay at least $ 30 to get your prescription diagnosed. I think this is basically out of their hands, so be nice to the ladies when they tell you your balance due!

These guys are always great with my high maintenance scheduling requests, and I haven’t experienced anyone over the past three years who wasn’t courteous and kind. Dr. Tacker is the real deal. He cares about patients and takes the time to go through the necessary tests, but also takes the time to listen and ask questions about eyesight and overall health. Also, they don’t dilate your eyes.
I love this group, but I have to be honest. The parking lot is ridiculous. Take one of the busiest corners in the city traffic wise, add several businesses, and then grade all the parking for a portion of the lot on a 30% incline.
This is a great eye doctor, just give yourself a few minutes extra to figure out the parking.

I’ve been going here ever since I’ve been going to the eye doctor… I’m 28 so ummm maybe 20 years?
Anyways, Dr. Tacker is awesome and always friendly. I love their selection of glasses and I always walk away with very cool prescription designer shades. They carry Prada, Kate Spade, and Tory Burch among others.
The space is nice, spacious and most importantly clean. They definitely keep up with everything!
Minus one star because the women who work the reception desk are not very friendly… which I don’t understand because everyone else is so nice! The doctors, the assistants, those that help you with your glasses… what gives?

This group of optometrists is very professionally managed, and efficient. Once your name is called, you encounter helpful, friendly assistants who perform their range of tests before seeing the doctor.
My optometrist is Dr. Nance, who has been my optometrist for about 15 years. He is very capable and knowledgeable. Once you finish, they have a large selection of frames, including the latest designer frames, and the sales people are also knowledgeable and helpful as you select the frames you need.
My only suggestion is for improvement at the check-​in desk. They are not friendly.

Nice enough staff, but screwed up my glasses. Gave me transition lenses that I certainly did not order. They are correcting it, but it never should have happened in the first place.

Excellent staff. Excellent optometrists. My insurance likes them. Excellent deals. Awesome equipment for contact lenses exam. Love my frames :)
