MacAdvantage

Less than one star is what is deserved. These guys «recycled» a newish 1400 $ computer (only defect was a cracked screen) without my permission. Now the owner won’t return my phone calls. SHADY.

I brought my MacBook Pro into Macadvatage to check out because the battery life was not good. And they quoted me $ 300.00 to fix it. So I got a second opinion, I went up to the Apple Store and they said it was the battery. It needed to be replaced. The cost to be replaced at the Apple Store was $ 80.00. Macadvantage wanted to take Avantage of me. I guess to pay for that hight rent on Poplar Ave. I would never ever take my Mac to this place again. Or tell my worse enemy to go there.

If you can go to the Apple store — avoid coming here.
I couldn’t get an appointment at the apple store so the man on the apple support line told me to go here to get my laptop fixed (it had crashed).
Long story short the lady charged me over $ 400 (plus buying a new hard drive for $ 70) before my laptop even got looked at, then said once it was fixed it would cost an additional $ 300 — 350. That could be a whopping $ 820 just to get my laptop fixed… I could buy a completely new laptop for less.
After I decided I didn’t want to spend that much, I wanted my refund for the over $ 400 I had already paid. They can’t do refunds back onto cards… the manager has to write you a check which they can either mail you or let you know when you can pick it up (aka the most inconvenient way to get your money back). I called back the next day to see if there was any progress on my refund and the manager had to go out of town and there was no one else who could write me a check. Keep in mind I’m a newly graduated college student who doesn’t have $ 400 dollars to throw around.
So needless to say, I still have a broken laptop and am now over $ 400 poorer for probably 5 more days. Something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy!

They seem spectacularly unmotivated and exhibit a total lack of customer-​service priorities. Expensive and slow. Mac Advantage on Reddoch Cove was a great small business. Very sad to see what it has become.

then the owner tried to make it right, but gave a false promise… is this good service? i don’t think so… ended up waiting 2 weeks for a «3−4 day» repair and cost me $ 250 vs the $ 120 or so promised…

I took my old desktop here to see what I could get as a trade in. The staff was very friendly, and they gave me a decent store credit towards a new purchase for my old computer (you only get store credit, no cash, for trade-​ins).
Initially I was interested in getting a refurbished laptop from them, but the process was a bit annoying. I knew it would take some time (since refurbs were dependent on what came into the store), but it took a lot longer than expected (over a month, almost 2). And the communication from the store was inconsistent. When I did talk to someone, they were always very polite and sincere and helpful, but it was sometimes hard to get a solid answer.
In the end, I ended up using the credit toward a new iPad, and will probably get an actual laptop later when I really need one.
Overall, the staff is friendly (especially Lauren, who I spoke with most often), but the trade-​in process and wait for refurb computers can be a bit long. And as a customer, you have to be more on top of things yourself, since the store doesn’t always call back with updates. A more spelled-​out policy on the timing and contact process when you start the trade-​in/​credit process would be great, to manage customer expectations.
