Under-whelming and bland. I had the chicken and waffles and it was tasteless. The waffle, the chicken, all of it tasteless. The Mac and cheese looked amazing– it had a kind of crust on top of hardened cheese which was awesome. Underneath that though, not much flavor. I asked for hot sauce which made it worth eating. It’s a cute concept but the food was way too bland– and I’m a Midwesterner so my standard weren’t high!

I have been here 4 or 5 times over the past year and I have yet to get anything other than the Class Valedictorian with Mac n’ cheese, it is sooo good I can never bring myself to get anything else. I love the house sauce they put on it, and whatever they mix into the turkey is just amazing. I love the atmosphere and I’ve never had any issues with parking. I only wish they were open longer. I will definitely be back!

I love this little restaurant. It’s just so so good. And southern. And comforting. And yum.

I love this place. The food choices were so different. I had a Apple pie lemonade. Oh my goodness, I was humming as I was drinking. I enjoyed the holiday break chicken(chicken salad on cornbread) and the squash bake. I look forward to going back! I want to try the chicken and waffles.

I SUPERSUPER wanted to love this place, I really did. I’m sorry but it just didn’t make that great of an impression on me. the food is good, dont get me wrong! it definitely is a must visit if you are a memphis resident. i love the creativity of the food itself and the space. I had the HOLIDAYBREAKCHICKENSANDWICH and it was good. the sides are kind of small in size. the special lemonades are Refreshing!!! perfect for a hot summer day. I think the last time i was there I had the cantaloupe lemonade. Its a perfect sweet spot for you and your friend to take a quick weekday lunch break or weekend lunch break to. There is seating outside and you can play games while you wait. They serve your food on those elementary school lunch trays. Its a very cutesy and fun place to eat at. I’m only rating this an A-ok because I feel like the portions are small compared to how much you pay and the value of the food. Nothing is bad, but nothing in particular left a lasting impression on me.

Love this place simply because of their fried avocados and eggplant! I never thought those two could be that delicious. I don’t know what kind of mayo based dipping sauce was served with them, but it was so good, I can just make a meal out of those two things. We did try the mac ‘n pork club and the broken rib bones. The club sandwich was half a mile high and food was falling out of every side. The sandwich went really well with bbq sauce. The creamy, cheesy goodness of the mac complemented the pork and the sauce complemented the pork. The broken rib bone sandwich was equally messy, but it was smoky and flavorful. The toasted bread provided a nice crunch to all of it. LUNCHBOXeats was a great place to eat. You can also play boardgames while you wait. If you’re ever in Memphis, you must eat here!

I will definitely go out of my way to eat here next time I’m in Memphis. Their deep-frying magic produces some of the best avacado jojos and eggplant fries that money can buy. I never knew an eggplant could be so crispy and delicious. The dipping sauces are also great compliments for every menu item. It was incredibly disappointing that I only had room to try one of their sandwiches. The Principle’s included some sort of smoked sausage, a runny egg, cheese, and tomatoes between thick slices of brioche. This restaurant is small, quiet, inexpensive, and way better than the muck you’ll find on Beale Street.

This place is quirky and fun. We didn’t have time to sit and eat and it was a shame. The food was fantastic and they gave generous portions. I highly recommend the fried eggplant!

Went in great anticipation based on reviews and photos on Unilocal.Overall good was good but not over the top. The home mango lemonade was yummy and in huge mason jar. Chicken & grid was abit bland and lukewarm as was the homemade fries. Had to send back Mac & cheese because cold in the middle. Rib in bone sandwich was flavorful. Crawfish sloppy joes was tasty but since everything was mixed together couldn’t taste the argula. They had run out of mini buns so got it as sandwich instead. Was disappointed in the kale chips. Not crispy but rather soggy. Squash casserole was great! Wonder if the huge fan above us cooled the food too fast thus contributing to the lukewarm food.

If you have not made the trip, you need to go. The food is great and people are friendly! The Holiday Break Chicken is my favorite, yet I am working my way down the menu and everything has been pretty good. A cool«cafeteria» environment takes you back to school lunches, except here the food is much much much better and made from scratch. Though within a stones throw of the Forum, this gem is somewhat hidden. Definitely offers every local eatery scavenger, like myself, another reason to believe we’re headed in the right direction in the restaurant category!

Really fun place and some very good menu items. Some looked and tasted great, but others fell flat on execution. The three birds(basically a pulled turducken sandwich with vegetable slaw) was pretty good and deserves 4 or 5 stars, but the eggplant fries turned out as mush and 2 stars would be generous. I’d definitely go back and try more great items from the diverse menu. Some are bound to be flops, but there look to be many home runs in the lineup.

A good friend of ours recommended the Lunchbox. We were greeted by Daniel with a warm friendly hello. He told us how the chef makes all the sauces from scratch. Very retro decorated. Bringing back some good childhood memories. We ordered the Chicken and Grids and the Leadership. Simply put: AMAZING! We will definitely come back. Kudos, Lunchbox.

This place had become my favorite restaurant to have lunch at when I an in Memphis. All of the sandwiches are unique and the food is great. Very casual atmosphere but you must try the fried Brussel sprouts… even if you THINK you do not like them…

One of my favorite restaurants on our trip from Boston to Los Angeles, we had lunch here after a morning at the incredible civil rights museum. It’s just outside the downtown area and feels of the beaten path, and that location just adds to its local, casual vibe. The staff were very friendly and were totally honest when they said«everything here is good» Try the chicken & grids, try the salad, try a dessert, MUST try the lemonade!

GREAT concept for a restaurant. Makes you feel like you are in grade school again. The décor includes the plastic chairs you find in a 4th grade classroom, menu on ruled paper, and pencils to circle what you would like to eat. Food was great. Coworkers and I dabbled in a little bit of everything. BBQ and Mac and Cheese sandwich, chicken tenders and fries, crawfish etoufee sliders, brussel sprouts, and banana foster bread pudding for dessert. The owner is a trained chef and it shows in her dishes. Awesome experience. Giant classes of the lemonade of the day was also a plus!
You want to remember your elementary school cafeteria but with better food? Come to Lunchbox Eats. Its a hidden gem near FedEx Forum. They have a lemonade of the day that you have to try. Last time I went, it was mango. Homeroom Chicken and Grids, 3rd Period Smoking Birds and Graduation Burger are my favorites. Always get the mac and cheese. ALWAYS. While you wait for your food, play Connect 4 or Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots. FYI I like to cheat at RESER according to my godchild. LMAO!

Phenomenal. Why haven’t I tried this place before today? Apparently, I’ve been living under a rock, because this place has been open for 4 years! Granted –it’s not on prime real estate in downtown Memphis, but it has plenty of FREE parking. The sandwiches are very unique, so don’t let the name fool you(it makes me think of boxed traditional deli sandwiches). I got the Homeroom Chicken & Grids and split a couple of sides(eggplant fries and sweet hash) with a coworker. Everything was flavorful and unordinary. I was worried that chicken tenders in between 2 waffles would be messy and tend to fall apart, but the sandwich held together exceptionally well. Our server was very friendly, and my coworker and I even played several rounds of Connect Four while waiting for our food. I can’t wait to go back again and try the other menu items!

I’ve been meaning to try this places for ages. And life kept getting in the way. A fellow Unilocaler invited me to lunch and knew it was now or never. I’m glad it was now. The theme of this place is really cute. It’s a school lunchroom. There are even games you can play while waiting. Or you can watch tv. The ordering is test style, marking your selections with a number 2 pencil. And I felt like I was taking a test. It was so hard to decide what to try. It’s a trap I’m sure of it. I might have even chewed the pencil had I not remembered where I was. I ordered the lemonade of the day which happened to be delicious. Green apple. I never would have thought of that combo. I also got the graduation burger. Which is misleading. It’s a huge hunk of meatloaf along with cheese, potatoes, and crispy onion strings on toasted bread. The only thing I could find wrong with the sandwich was that it started getting soggy. A bun might be a better fit. I ordered the avocado jo jos. Fried avocado is heart warming. It was seasoned well and came with a chipotle dipping sauce. I’m pretty sure that it was a whole avocado. Overall the experience was nice. Our waitress was attentive and sweet. I’ll go back if only so I can try every last creation they have. Portions are huge, so sharing sides might be the way to go next time. I wish lunch was like that when I was in school
