Miter Biter Frame Company

I have had them make me a half dozen frames now and also they made me a framed mirror. They have a great staff that always helps me to put together a nice looking presentation. I have always been pleased with their work. I will always use Miter Biter.

I got 4 acrylic canvas paintings stretched and framed about a year ago. I was extremely happy and thought I wrote a review. So this review is a year late as I have already used them a second time. Outstanding service, They work with you especially if you have no artistic sense whatsoever. I got a very fair price for what I purchased, and the work they did.

I bought a print that I wanted to mat with a special inscription for my husband on our anniversary. I brought my print in and customer service was a little less then par per previous reviews, but I figured I would give them a try since I work so close by. My time is limited between work and caring for toddler twins.
I asked the young man that I needed a custom mat for my print and he picked a beautiful mat that would highlight the colors in the print. He told me he would have it to me in a few days since they are really busy for the holidays. I figured it would be fine since I could just pick it up when I went to work the following week. I don’t live in Melrose.
When I went to pick up the print it was not in the correct color mat just a plain bright white mat. When I told the lady she said «oh well it says digital white on the receipt he must have quoted you a price before he picked the color and didn’t change it.» She said she could have it redone and have it to me the next day. I told her that my anniversary was today and needed today. She then said oh well sorry happy anniversary and that was it. Really that’s all you can do… she didn’t even offer me a discount or my money back. So disappointed how the mat turned out but I needed it today so what else could I do… Never going back there again.

Beautiful custom framing job! Our oil painting needed to be stretched and framed for a reasonable price. Miter Biter exceeded our expectations! They provided suggestions on affordable frames and completed the job in less than two weeks. We’ll definitely be repeat customers.

I recently had two items framed at Miter Biter in Melrose. Amanda waited on me for probably two hours until we got both pieces just right. She was so patient with me and with her help the textures and colors for the double mats for both pieces are perfect and I could not be happier with the final results.

I never would have known about this shop if my brother-​in-​law and sister hadn’t moved to Melrose a few years ago. It is located in the heart of the town, right on Main Street, and if you can’t find a parking space on the street there are two municipal lots within short walking distance.
Miter Biter is family owned. Everyone I’ve dealt with is super friendly and knowledgeable. I have bought artwork that they have had on display as well as pieces of my own. The most recent of these is a picture of my great grandparents after getting married and my great-grandfather’s family. It is over 100 years old, and was never cared for properly because my grandmother’s family was too poor.
Amanda, who has been working since the fall, waited on me. I wasn’t sure what, if any, kind of restoration might be done to it. She explained that it wasn’t just a photograph, but it was actually a photo that had been blown up and re-​exposed, then painted, so it was more of a painted canvas than anything else. She showed me how the humidity had affected the coloring, and the only ‘real’ way to restore it would be to bring it to someone specializing in digitally analyzing the work, but the original would be vastly different. (This is something I’d love to have done someday but I’m sure it would be incredibly expensive).
The picture also had what Amanda described was white mold, and that if they tried to remove it, they would probably strip away more of the color. The mold was only at the very top of the picture and had a negligible impact on it as a whole. We decided that we would try to find a frame as well as matte that would accentuate the piece, washed out colors and mold and all.
We went through mattes and frames for over an hour before we settled on just the right combination. They also gave me the frame that the picture was originally in (real mahogany) and explained that the joints were a bit loose but if I ever wanted to reuse the frame they could fix it.
Fast forward. I picked up the finished product on Sunday, 2/​20, and I am still blown away by how beautiful it is. Everything looks just «right», matching the coloring of the picture and the time period, etc… I brought the finished job to my grandmother because it was a gift for her. She looked it up and down (still fastidious at 85) and kept exclaiming how beautiful and well-​put together it was. By the time I was ready to leave she was crying because that picture is one of only two that she has of her parents, the second being a small black and white photo when they were much older taken shortly before her father died.
This experience alone is enough to merit more praise than I can give, but I will add only that I have had cute etchings framed for my 2.5 year old nephew and signed lithographic posters, as well as other family pictures.
Miter Biter is family run and they treat you, their customer, like just another member of the family. If you’re like me and have trouble deciding sometimes about what color matte goes well with which frame etc, you can also bring in something and give them creative license. My sister did that for some photos of my grandfather during World War II and gave me the resulting work for my birthday. I don’t think I could have picked a better combination or layout than what the patriarch of the family chose for me.

I have had several things at Miter Biter framed over the last 10 years. But i recently went to Michael’s because I just wanted a cheap double matte 18×24− and they charged me $ 93. SO I thought just to make sure I called Miter Biter and they quoted me $ 44 for the same double matte. So I canceled Michael’s order and I went with Miter Biter. And I am kind of ashamed that I just assumed the big guy would be cheaper. And I know it’s going to turn out beautiful. They are also putting in UV glass and installing the print in the frame that I supplied all for the same price as one matte from Michael’s. I would definitely not bother with Michael’s for framing and go back to Miter Biter from now on. Trust me– I did the leg work and comparison for you– it’s not worth it. And you get great customer service at Miter Biter.

You have something that you love, you want to keep it forever, you want it around when your dead and buried! Who can help preserve that for you and make it appear like it is exactly what you want it to. Miter Biter — that’s who! I moved to Melrose in 1996 and there’s a lot not to like about that terrible city. However in downtown Melrose there is an old school, family owned small business. Yes please !!! I didn’t think much of it the first time I had something framed *see 2001 Superbowl Champion New England Patriots, however once I had the Herald framed and saw how beautiful it came out, I was completely hooked. Thankfully I have been lucky enough to have 6 more championships for my sports teams. They have a bunch of other things in there as well for sale, local artists, paintings, pictures etc…
In addition to the already affordable framing, they offer a free framing after you have x amount framed. They provide you with a plastic card for your wallet so you can rack up points and earn a free framing. I think they average out your prior purchases and credit you.
I appreciate local small businesses, being the owner of one myself, and I also appreciate expertise. Look I’m a dude, I have zero idea what matting goes good with what color frame etc… When I use to frame something I would go to Osco Drug and buy a frame and it would look like complete shit, but hey I was a bachelor it didn’t matter right? Well anyways, they are always there to show you your options and give you some ideas of what works for whatever you are framing.
Oh and if you want to talk sports and you know I do, wait till dad is around and he will talk about how great the Celtics are. I told him they had no chance this year !!!

I had a very special print framed by Miter Biter and the experience was great. The proprietor was very friendly and helpful and patient as I went back and forth trying to decide on the right frame. He had plenty of suggestions that helped me finally choose.
I also had special requirements I wanted such as UV glass, no wet matting and so forth. They framed the print perfectly between the backer and the glass so that I could change the frame in the future if I wanted and the print would suffer no damage or deterioration.
For the specifications and size the price was also very reasonable. Although I have since moved about an hour away, I would travel back to them to have new prints framed because I feel confident in the way they handle my art.

I recently had some watercolors framed at Miter Biter and am THRILLED with the end result. This place is definitely top notch in their work. The owner couldn’t have been nicer helping me with my matting and frame selections and then one week later my items were framed! I highly recommend Miter Biter

This place has been here forever, they must be doing something right. Excellent customer service, they make recomendations to help selection the best mat & frame for your pictures. They have a wide selection to choose from of several mats, frames and other pictures. I had my wedding picture done here and they did a beautiful job.

I love this frame store. I’ve had two things framed and each time the service was outstanding. I was unsure of exactly what I wanted both times and they were extremely helpful and patience.
The prices seem reasonable, although I haven’t done much comparison shopping. And the finished product is beautiful. The turn-​around time was about a week for both pieces, but they were done on time without any problems.
I can’t recommend this place enough!
