D’Amici’s Bakery

I am not even sure where to begin. This takes the cake as the biggest disappointments I have ever had at a bakery (pun intended).
Customer service: We had to wait about 7 minutes at the register before someone came out and took our order. I am generally an impatient person anyways but the kicker here is was saw two people in the kitchen who could clearly see us standing at the counter for the entire 7 minutes.
Food: We ordered a chocolate cupcake which was terrible. The cake was dry. Like seriously, if you are a bakery, the one thing you should be good at is making moist chocolate cake. If you can’t, then you shouldn’t operate a bakery. There was so much frosting on it, which I assume was an attempt to cover up how dry the cake was, that was akin to a block of sugar with pieces of butter dispersed throughout. We also ordered a tiramisu.
If you can imagine just eating the sugar syrup at Dunkin Donuts, then have successfully managed to mentally taste the tiramisu here.
Needless to say, we took a bite of each, gagged, threw it out, and left.

Beautiful place — but the baked goods have no taste. I’ve had both pastries and bread and have literally thrown them away as they have no taste.
It’s unfortunate as its a very nice location with good prices and friendly staff. I thought I hit the goldmine until I was left disappointed by their products.
Sweet Spot in Melrose is less glamorous /​is not a café but their baked goods are delicious!
Last note– I have not tried their coffee so I can’t comment. I’ll update if I do!

We like the sandwiches but for years now have had mixed experiences with baked goods and coffees. Worst iced coffee I’ve ever had (actually threw it away), regular drip coffee and lattes hit or miss depending on staff that day, and single serve baked goods more and more often completely dried out or just not very good. Better luck with full sizes but we rarely need or get those. Sometimes staff will tell you what’s fresh. If not made same day, don’t waste the calories. Amaretti dreams are my favorite though, and the mini Bön bons. Not the type of thing that dries out.

I obviously never learn. Tried this place a couple times the past few months and each time was worse than the time before. This morning we ordered two large iced lattes and two sandwiches. The gentleman brings over the lattes and I immediately say that we ordered larges and he told me «yep that’s a large». It wasn’t even a 16 oz cup. Then the sandwiches come, slapped together without even the bread toasted. The coffee size was really confusing to me so I get up and check the menu and other sizes and see that there are two larger sizes than the one we received. I point this out to the kid and say every other time we’ve been here the lattes have been larger and he turns to a girl working there and says «yeah I gave them smalls by accident what should I do.» No acknowledgment that he had specifically told me we got larges, no apology, nothing. I then stand there for several minutes while 3 workers help other people and have to ask again about my coffee. He ended up refunding me the difference, which was nominal, but given the consistent poor quality of the coffee and food the poor customer service is the icing on the cake. We for sure won’t be back again and will be sharing our many bad experiences with family and friends.

I almost didn’t have a cake for my daughter’s birthday party! The previous day I walked into the store asking for cake options. Because I didn’t order the special cakes, I was told that I have end of the day to make a decision. When I called around 6pm, I was told that all the bakers are gone so I can’t request cakes more than 8 inches. I was expecting 35 guests so one 8 inch cake will not work so I placed an order for two 8 inches cakes. Three hours before the party, I went to pick up my cakes and was told that no order was placed?! I almost had a heart attack. At the end, I picked up whatever cakes were available.

I’ve been to this restaurant about a dozen times. The sandwiches range from 5 – 9 dollars and are pretty tasty most of the time; although we often re-​toast them at home as the bread isn’t always toasted all of the way.
The service is really why I can’t give this place a better rating. If you get two sandwiches, expect to wait between 15 – 20 minutes even if there are only 1 – 2 orders before you. We only go when do not have a tight schedule.

I just bought a loaf of bread:). I did spend much time there but i liked it.
I was looking for a bakery store in melrose. It is good to know there is one in melrose
This place is also a café. You can habe your drink with your baked products.

I’m so happy I looked at reviews from this bakery. I got a beautiful cake for my son’s 1^st birthday. The design was on point and the cake was heavenly! I’m super impressed and will go back for future cakes.

Fabulous! Everyone was helpful in making a special birthday surprise for our daughter. They even refunded the delivery charge when it wasn’t their fault. Bravo.

Absolutely love D’Amici’s! great company altogether! I come here all the time with my friends and all of the food is very good. I especially like the Tuscan Vegetable sandwich, but the breakfast sandwiches are also great. The service is always great with lively and nice people!

Looking for stale baked goods, a crummy excuse for a sandwich, and hilariously expensive drinks? How about rude high school students taking your order? Then you should check out D’Amici’s!
If I could give D’Amici’s zero stars, I would. The pastries taste like they’re made with nothing but preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, and food coloring.
The only positive thing I can say: I didn’t get food poisoning.
Honestly, don’t waste your time or money.

If you are going to change your hours you should post it on your website so people don’t drive all the way there to find the bakery closed due to new hours. Just a thought.

I don’t believe that the customer is ALWAYS right, but usually the customer’s point is somewhat reasonable and most business owners want to do the right thing. Here is our story…
We have had our very first major disappointment in Melrose, MA, in the nearly 3 years that we have lived here. The businesses on Main Street are awesome – many owned by local people. We have loved D’Amici’s Bakery ever since we discovered it in 2013 and have been frequent customers – they make the best cupcakes on the North Shore. Our visits always include an order of cupcakes to take home – the same two varieties — peanut butter cup & oreo — and we are addicts. Well, 2 days ago, Barry went in to get our cupcakes, but when he got home and we opened the box, we did not find cupcakes in there – and, frankly, we were not interested in what had been substituted. Barry phoned the bakery to report there had been a mistake and that we would be back in today (Saturday) to get the mistake corrected. We saw no reason to be penalized for having been given the wrong products. But when we arrived at D’Amici’s Bakery, the manager, Vicky apologized and explained that the employee that had waited on Barry was new and of course there is a learning curve for a new employee. Well, yah. Sure. And, she continued, she would replace ONE HALF of our order for free, but could not justify to the owner giving us the entire order for free! Now, for those of you who know Barry, you know that he is totally blind and could not have seen that a mistake was being made. But should HE HAVE TO ABSORB THE LEARNING CURVE MISTAKE OF A NEW EMPLOYEE? We don’t think so. And how the manager thought she could not justify a complete replacement of the order to her employer is beyond me. If that is truly a problem for them, what kind of people must they be? We are talking 3 additional cupcakes, here, NOT 3 WEDDING CAKES! We are so disappointed in D’Amici’s. We are owners of a small business and would never treat our customers in this way – we would go out of our way to make things right.

Pretty solid Italian Bakery with a decent selection. We usually have to wait a few minutes, but it beats trekking all the way to the North End. The folks working there could stand to be a little more professional, but it’s not something that’s going to stop me from coming back.

My husband and I have been stopping in here for years and have noticed a definite decline. Last Sunday was the worst. The food was ok (took forever to get 2 breakfast sandwiches… it was NOT busy), but the guy and girls working behind the counter are what clinched it for me. We were 2 of only 3 customers in there at the time and the staff were having a conversation about how they were sick, or are getting sick and who else within the store is sick. This is NOT what I want to hear from the people who made the sandwiches we were eating! We weren’t trying to listen in on the conversation (we were sat at the opposite end of the store), but couldn’t help but hear about it. It completely grossed me out and, literally, left a bad taste in my mouth. We won’t be coming back anytime soon.

Overall it is not bad but if you look for good cakes try Sweet spot bakery in Melrose. If you need good bread, go to Wakefield to the Farmland. D’amici has a good location and room to sit inside but their pastry is average compared to the mentioned one, plus it is a bit overpriced.

Maybe I was a little too excited when I saw all the choices there. I ended up with a strawberry cheesecake and it was totally disappointing! Sad, it looked so good. Tried some cookies and other goodies that the family ordered and they were slightly better, but we left stuff behind in our rental home down the street because they just weren’t all that delicious. Definitely might try them again, but I might ask for recommendations next time as quality and flavor don’t seem constant across all their foods.

Good sandwiches for lunch and of course, yummy desserts. I’ve been here most recently for lunch and sandwiches are good. And since I have a sweet tooth, desserts are YUM-​MY!
If you’re in the area, drop by. It gets busy at times. They have a nice outdoor seating area in warm weather and decent indoor seating. I believe I tried searching for a WiFi signal and sadly, didn’t find one. That would be one of the drawbacks in this digital world.
But a def, «must try» on your short list for at least, the desserts/​pastries!

I went here a couple of months ago because someone told me it was a great bakery. I ordered a dozen (?) mini pastries and brought them to my mother’s house for dessert after a Sunday dinner.
I’m not really into sweets (I prefer savory) but everyone picked on the pastries and said they were old. The key lime tort was actually cracked.
I called the next day and spoke to a young girl. I told her right away that I wasn’t angry and didn’t expect anything in return. I just wanted her to pass along the message to the owner or manager.
Who knows if she really did? Anyway, not going back.

They have the best Italian Cassata cake. I’m not a huge fan of rum cake, but they make it perfectly where the rum flavor isn’t too overpowering. but still keeps the cake nice and moist. The ricotta filling with the dark chocolate chips. mm so good!
This is my top go-​to place for birthday cakes because they usually have the Cassata cake on hand or. Tiramisu, which is just as delicious.
Service has always been good all the times that I have been in. Love the little pastries and other baked goods. Have yet to try sandwiches there. Cappuccinos are delicious as well.
