History

Established in 2011.

Kava is a traditional drink of the South Pacific island region. The kava tree is a type of pepper plant. The roots of these plants are finely ground and turned into a chilled beverage served in a (plastic) coconut half-​shell. Kava has recently made its way over to the States, and the majority of our country’s kava bars are located here in Florida… but the word is getting out and the kava phenomenon is starting to spread through the U.S.

Avid surfer, kava connoisseur, and dedicated business-​owner, Tony has been enjoying the benefits and relaxing effects of kava for several years… and three years ago he opened Island Root Kava Bar (formerly Kavasutra III) here in the historic downtown district of Melbourne, FL. The public’s enthusiasm for kava tea and the kava bar atmosphere has grown considerably since the initial opening, so earlier this year, Tony opened Island Root II in the Staples/​Old Time Pottery Plaza at Eau Gallie Boulevard and N. Wickham Road, also in Melbourne.
