Our 10 year old LOVES this store and we come in all the time now. Gonna ask for gift cards for her next birthday. Check out the selection of nightlights of all things. Wonderful things.

Want to buy a thoughtful, unique gift for a friend, coworker, or family member? Do you want to get them something that is made by a local artist or someone earning a living wage in the developing world? Then go to Earth and State! Stop buying junk for people that will break in a year or be donated. Get them something they can’t find anywhere else. Get the something that was made by an artist and not from a sweatshop. Side note: Their pottery is lead free! Also, make sure to buy yourself some fair trade chocolate before you leave… you know you deserve it.

I love this store… its very cute. Lots of handmade pottery and little things. Great place to buy a unique gift for someone. My only complaint is that the woman that sat at the register didn’t really greet my mom and I as we walked in the store. She kinda stuck to herself. Also, my mom and I were the only customers in the store at the time, so it’s not like she was too busy to say anything to us. On the upside, she cutely wrapped a gift for me that I got for my sister. I’d happily give 5 stars if I got a friendly greeting when I walked into the store.

This place is great!!! Love that the products and merchandise are from local artists. My daughter gets me a coffee mug every year for christmas from here. The owners are also and extremely friendly and knowledgable about the products. I couldn’t believe someone gave them a 1 star review stating they were unfriendly.

Media is «America’s First Fair Trade City.» I have NOIDEA what exactly what that means, but Earth & State is the kind of groovy hand-made, local artist one-of-a-kind gift store you’d expect to find in such a place. great pottery & glass stuff. you can find items at every price point. some of it is a bit airy fairy hippy dippy, but they do have a selection of modern pieces.

one of the most unfriendly places in Media. Go in often on nights Media throws an event, and on normal nights and not once has the woman who works there, brunette, owner, nor the older lady who is there often, greeted me. Nice way to run a biz. For cute trinkets, theres a much friendlier, classier place a few doors down. Trust me…

Earth & State was like visiting Leonardo DaVinci’s man cave. Everything is affordable and yet, still fair-trade and unique. Each piece has a local story, an inspiration, or a connection to a beautiful place far away. The shopkeepers seem pretty involved in keeping Media the positive, creative, and growing place it is. They founded it after being inspired by the thoughtful gifts given to them when they wed. When we visited, our daughter was greeted by high school kids who sang her happy birthday. It wasn’t her birthday, but she didn’t seem to mind that they were just checking off a task from their bounty hunt. I’m proud to report we helped those kids check off 3 other things, including sharing a harrowing story of risk and bravery!

So, I really like Earth & State. The stuff is a bit expensive, but that is pretty expected and understandable for a place that sells this sort of stuff. I like that a lot of the work comes from local artists. There is a GREAT selection of dishes. I’ve bought several bowls and mugs from here and would always check them out first for more. The owners are pretty knowledgeable about their products– who made them and where they made it– which is a nice touch. I like things that clearly came from another person. This is usually one of my first stops for gift-shopping. I definitely suggest checking it out.

Earth & State was my introduction to Media, PA, literally. Drew, the owner, introduced me to the landlord and I pretty much never left. I adore this shop. It has everything you never knew you wanted or needed. Drew and his wife are EXTREMELY knowledgeable about the products in their store. If asked, Drew can give you a little bio on the artist who created every item you intend to buy. As far as I know, everything in the store is fair-trade. Drew is a HUGE advocate for Fair Trade items. I love that about the place. It’s guilt free shopping at its finest! If you are looking for unique gifts and a great bunch of folks, Earth and State is the place for you.

I totally agree! I have gotten gifts for people at this store — it’s almost too packed with cool, earthy stuff — for the last two years. I won’t even bother with Ten Thousand Villages anymore. Friendly service too.

Fantastic place to go gift-shopping. Lots of cool stuff for gardens, lots of fair trade stuff. I got a «singing bowl» here for slightly less than 10,000 Villages charges, and they have all sorts of other similar«international» products. Plus the staff is really friendly. I love Media!
