Bittersweet Kitchen

Me and my Boyfriend went for the first time today. We checked out the reviews and the brunch was amazing! We went all out. We got their feta, bacon, cheese omelette, chocolate chip pancakes, sides, bacon and Chedder biscuits. And their home fries. The food was amazing. We ate outside so it was more quiet. The mason jars for our drinks and menu as the bill were cute touches. We had Diane as our waitress she was so attentive and came out to check on us so much. I can not wait to go back by far my favorite new breakfast place in the Delco area :)

I was off today and needed to run some errands. This was my first of many stops.
Cute little place in Media that offers a few tables outside for you to eat.
When I say little, I mean TINY. It’s a shame they don’t have a bigger establishment. I’m sure they can afford it because let me tell you, it was BUSY in there.
It so was crowded, chaotic, and confusing. I ended up getting my order to go because I didn’t think there was any available seating.
You stand in line and then order your food. I was confused as where the kind started/​ended and who had already ordered and was waiting for take out versus who was dining in.
There was so many fetuses running around the place. I had to close my eyes, count to ten, and stop myself from kicking them like soccer balls.
The «mancakes» on their special menu sounded delicious. Sausage pancakes served with Guinness caramel. But I decided to try their crème brûlée pancakes. It was $ 9 for three tasty pancakes.
They weren’t sweet at all; actually they could have used some syrup.
On my way out I realized there was window seats available. Grrrrrr.
I’d come back again now that I know how things work.

My favorite little café in Media!
The fritters are AHmazing — a must-​order. They rotate their flavors, so I’ve been able to try apple and mango. Both were great. One order is big enough for 2 – 3 to share. Oh, and they’re hot so you might as well eat them all once you order them!
I will have to try their other breakfast and lunch menu items, but their tuna melt is delicious. A hefty amount of tuna in the middle and grilled perfectly. The plate came with potatoes, making for an extremely satisfying and filling meal. I don’t think you could go wrong with any of their plates.
Service — I’ve only come during off-​peak hours, I’ve never had a problem with wait times and whatnot. Carry-​out is easy-​peasy. When the dining area is full, the noise level gets pretty loud. Just like another reviewer mentioned, acoustics aren’t great. Other than than that, I love all the little details about this place. Go check them out yourself :)
Parking — street metered parking or the garage that’s a few blocks away (cheap!).

My son and I had breakfast here one morning recently. Coffee was delicious but the blueberry scones were undercooked. My son was not a fan of the sausage and gravy. Nice staff and cute décor.

Great spot for brunch. I got the breakfast enchiladas that really hit the spot. This nice surprises were the egg over easy covering the burritos and the nice smooth crunch with every bite! Great fresh ingredients.

Stopped in the other day, and had a very nice hunk of Jewish Apple cake. reminded me of Mom’s cake from many years ago.

So many things to enjoy! The atmosphere is cozy and warm. The food is fresh and deliciously put together, enough to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. Lots of options for breakfast and lunch :) we couldn’t settle on one item!!!

I have been dying to try Bittersweet and now I can’t wait to return.

Crème Brulee Pancakes are a sweet-​dessert like treat.
I opted for the savory special — Breakfast enchiladas and tasted a terrific side of Vegetarian Chili with Sweet potatoes and Black Beans (I loved that best!). The cornbread accompanying the chili is house-​made and perfect!
I want one of everything!

Awesome brunch!
Went Saturday before Mother’s Day so there was a short wait time. But if you do have to wait feel free to go in and have a cuppa coffee while you’re waiting. They also have call ahead seating.
To start, their bloody Mary’s were fabulous, and with a complementary shot of vodka made it even better.
I had the stuffed challah bread French toast… sooooooo good!

Been here twice. The friendly owner was there both times and attending to people, which is nice to see. There isn’t a lot of room or seating. So be prepared for a wait at weekend brunch. The tight quarters don’t really bother me since I lived in NYC for years, but others may find it annoying. I’m really there for the food, which has been great. Their home fries are perfect! Most places half cook them (a pet peeve) but they cook them until they are crispy, which is the way I like them. Also their hot water for tea is the perfect temperature. I know this probably sounds strange but I hate getting lukewarm water for tea. I can’t wait to go back to try more stuff on the menu!

Great cornbread! The staff was super nice, and the prices for the quality were great.

Tiny place that is REALLY busy on the weekends. Small menu but good. Sell lots of rancheros and a quite a few crazy sugary breakfast items, not too many healthy options. Attracts media hipsters for sure and parents with kids. The acoustics are a bit harsh and loud especially with screaming kids.
Great little place but a bit too crowded at times. Seem to cram as many people in as can even to the point that waitsaff cant get to you with food or for a refill without some gymnasics.
Food usually good but have gotten cold food a few tines. Can be a long wait to get in and a long wait for food. I dont like that they dont seat people who were there first because they might lose a seat at a table. If a party of two comes you could wait forever while someone who walks up with a party of 5 gets seated right away. They will leave a table open to save it for a bigger check i guess.disappointing. Really cute place but service can use some work. Much of the menu stays the same, we eat there often enough would like it to change it up some once in a while. Metered parking. Near trolley and bus routes.

Had brunch with my daughter here recently. It’s a cute, cozy little place with unique (thank you very much!) items on the menu. It was so refreshing to see a menu that didn’t offer the same stuff as most of the other restaurants in the area.
That said, I went for the French Toast BLT that everyone has raved about in their reviews. It was good — don’t get me wrong — but it just wasn’t for me. Something about the lettuce and tomato just didn’t work for me, although I’ve enjoyed salads with maple vinaigrette on them before so I don’t know. Anyway, the french toast was great, the maple bacon was quite good — I just ended up deconstructing the sandwich a bit.
The breakfast potatoes that came with the sandwich, on the other hand, were phenomenal! Nicely browned and crunchy, just how I like them. My daughter had their breakfast plate (the usual eggs, potatoes, bacon, and a nice biscuit) and had no complaints. We also tried the fried pickles, which were really very good. Some places really screw those up, so we were happy that these were done right.
We are looking forward to going to Bittersweet again soon — can’t wait to try the Huevos Rancheros (they looked fabulous!) and the Ham and Cheddar on Pineapple Stuffing Bread looks really intriguing.
Overall, a great place — definitely a must-​try!

Lucky breakfast find! Great tasting fresh food. Helpful staff. Had the Bittersweet Breakfast. Eggs. Potatoes done just right. Biscuit and bacon. Worth a visit.

Went here for brunch. Cute place, staff seems friendly. Now I see everyone’s review for the BLT, I wish I got that. But I went with the «Huevos Rancheros «, but guess what… I wasn’t disappointed, that was delicious too. Mouthwatering, just melt in your mouth. I even asked for the eggs to be fully cooked. It was sooo good. My son got the smores pancake, I wasn’t impressed with that. It looked good, but the taste was so-​so.
I will definitely go back and try the Blt and a few other things too :). I would recommend this place highly. .
Noticed also if your waiting, you could go up and get a coffee at the counter.

This place had amazing breakfast, long wait but we’ll worth it. The atmosphere was hip and the service was great. They had a very unique menu and I must say the French Toast BLT was soooo good, I would definitely go there too just for their bacon! It was off the charts! I will be returning and I definitely recommend as a cute tasty place to go.
P. s. I recommend parking around the corner in white picket fence parking lot, not much parking on the street

This is by far my best experience getting breakfast at a restaurant. I had the challah stuffed French toast, and it was amazing. I just couldn’t stop eating it.
And it doesn’t stop at the food, the atmosphere is also amazing, with cool items from media’s past hanging on the walls and using mason jars as their glasses. They also have live flowers at every table.
This will definitely be somewhere I come back to. Looking to try the kielbasa sandwich. I don’t have any doubt it will be just as terrific.

I came here a couple of weeks ago for brunch and was pretty excited to check it out! For some reason, unbeknownst even to me, I have always liked Media. I think, for a Philly suburb, that it’s cute and has a lot of small town charm. Add adorable brunch places and you always win.
Evidently we weren’t the only brilliant minds who decided that this was the morning to check out Bittersweet Kitchen because there was a wait. The place was absolutely packed (not that it’s all that big on the inside) and there’s not a whole lot of space to wait 30 minutes to be seated. Of course a few brave souls sat outside and pretended not to be freezing cold, but we’re not that good at being uncomfortable and got in the way of basically every single waitress until we were seated. In the meantime we not so subtly ogled that every dish that passed by, each one looking better than the last, and talked about the absolutely adorable décor. (Kind of like rustic meets Southern, with an especially good selection of hanging light fixtures.)
The wait didn’t end once we sat, though. We placed our orders and then waited a ridiculously long time to get our food. Once we did, it all came at once, like an avalanche of calories. As a table we ordered 2 sides to share, the fried mac and cheese and the fried pickles. The mac and cheese was good, no doubt, especially because the breading was a little bit sweet, which is different from what you’d ordinarily expect. It had a taste almost similar to maple syrup, which was a really nice compliment to the savory cheese. The fried pickles, though, were my top pick of the morning! (And the remoulade that it came with was also great!) I love fried pickles. LOVE. And they aren’t all that easy to find when you’re not in the south. Then when you DO find them they’re often unseasoned or soggy or SPEARS and none of those things will suffice. These fried pickles were on point and were as good as any I’ve had in the south. A+.
As my entrée I ordered the challah stuffed french toast. It was basic and uninventive but delicious! The challah to cream cheese ratio was ridiculous — they do not skimp on the filling. But that’s actually my preference, because you can always remove what you don’t want. The entrée size is also GINORMOUS. It’s too much for an average human to eat, especially if that average human has just devoured fried mac and cheese and fried pickles…
I recommend Bittersweet Kitchen particularly if you have time to kill on a leisurely morning because experience tells me that this is a place where you won’t be in and out in, like, under an hour. But once you commit to going here you will be well taken care of and fed delicious, probably unhealthy, comforting food. In a word: charming.

Bittersweet Kitchen is one of the gems of Delaware County and has become a favorite Delco brunch spot for me. Michelle, who runs the place and who I believe is the owner, is very pleasant. The size of the restaurant is small and quaint. The servers all have great personalities. In addition, it is very family friendly. They have a few toys and puzzles for kids of all ages to keep themselves entertained while waiting for their food.
Speaking of food, the crème brûlée pancakes are delicious. Three fluffy pancakes are stacked with vanilla cream in between each pancake and a burnt sugar top. One of the specials of the day was an omelet with feta cheese, tomato and spinach. It must be a popular special because its been available as a special each time I dined at BSK. They might as well put it on the menu. It came with potatoes and a biscuit. The biscuit is amazing. It is so sweet and buttery.
I definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a great brunch spot in Delco. Definitely expect a wait if you plan to go on a weekend between 9am and around 1:00ish. They close at 3:00pm. The first time we went closer to 2:30pm and experienced no wait time.

I just had brunch at Bittersweet Kitchen, and despite the fact that the wait was over a half hour, I would definitely go back.
Let’s start with the bad —
The service. Well, maybe not the service… but how long we had to wait for our food. It was extreme. I mean, on top of the 35 minute wait to get a seat that wasn’t outside, the food took FOREVER to come out of the kitchen. We even ordered some apps (mac and cheese balls + fried pickles) and those didn’t come out until our food did. I’d say we were sitting at our table drinking coffee and water for about 40 minutes before our food came out. It was pretty ridiculous, and had us all hoping that all of this waiting would be worth it.
WHICH IT WAS.
Because, wow. Everything was good. First of all, the menu is huge! They have so many dishes that sound appetizing, it was hard to choose. Not to mention the specials that the girl was rattling off.
I ended up settling on the Challah Stuffed French Toast. It came with tons of sweet cream cheese filling, along with bourbon caramel sauce and bananas. I wish there was a little less filling and a little more caramel, but hey, that’s just my preference. It still tasted delicious.
The fried pickles were good because they were sliced into quarters, and then fried. I prefer that method of making fried pickles over just frying up one giant pickle. What was lacking in that dish was a good dippin’ sauce. What came out tasted very similar to tartar sauce, which I wasn’t into so much. It wasn’t a big deal since the fried pickles tasted good on their own anyway.
The mac and cheese balls were surprisingly SWEET. My friend’s husband was saying how he thought they added something sweet like sugar or honey to the fried stuffed portion of the balls.
My husband got the huevos rancheros, and there wasn’t one piece of food left on his plate. He loved it, and it came with chili, so it really was some next level brunch.
I would certainly come back here again, especially because you can walk in and order coffee and various baked goods to-​go.
