Smooth Scooters

Disclaimer: This review has been three years in the making, in part because I don’t have time to write down all the awesome things about this place.
I’ve known Frank for about 3 years, and he was recommended as someone who could help me with my scooter problems.
The long and short of it is that Frank is the most helpful, honest, generous guy working with machines that I’ve ever met. Along with being a miracle worker with engines, he’s also helped more people down on their finances than most people would. It’s kind of amazing that he’s managed to stay afloat.
Frank will explain what’s going on, give you the up front price and work his fingers off to fix your issues. I can’t recommend him highly enough although it should be noted he no longer sells or repairs scooters. But repairing cars, electric cars, motorcycles, lawnmowers, snow blowers, and renting, selling and servicing electric bikes are all things Smooth Automotive can take care of for you.
Also, whenever I’ve gone to a Midas or an NTB and had a quote for a repair from them, he always comes in with an estimate that’s about half what they charge (and this from giant franchised monoliths with access to crap tons of wholesale inventory and socket monkeys who’ll work for $ 12 an hour cranking on a wrench. Trust me, this is the place you want to be (and if you don’t trust me, just try to get an appointment — the place is busier than a cat in a room full of rocking chairs!).

Frank and Kelly are the best. They are kind, knowledgeable, efficient, and accommodating. I bought my electric bike from Smooth two years ago and have been in good hands for maintenance, part replacement, and answers to all my questions. They are fair and honest, and have always charged me reasonably and done good work. I would wholeheartedly recommend them.

This small, neighborhood scooter/​motorcycle shop oozes integrity. The mechanic who helped me was very low key and attentive. Poking around to see the various projects and customer bikes in for service, I could tell they take a solid approach to working on their bikes.
I only came in for an inspection sticker, but the guy dropped what he was doing and took care of me very quickly. During the course of the inspection, he discovered that one of the bolts holding the rear brake assembly in place was missing. He simply went to his tool chest, grabbed a replacement bolt and installed it. No questions asked, no drama. And no charge for the part or (admittedly brief) labor. Just $ 15 for the inspection!
I’ll definitely be back for more service and to take full advantage of this local gem.

My son’s EZ Pedaler bike was dangerous. There was an issue with the pedal assist and the chain falling off from the time of purchase. This issue landed him on the ER with a separated shoulder and some serious road rash. He is still rehabbing months later an the the shoulder still is not right. PS– EZ Pedaler and its president (Dick Allen) did not stand behind the product despite knowing there was an issue 3 days after purchase. Either did Smooth Scooters in Medford where we purchased the bike. I would not trust this product again. Be careful.

This business run by Frank not only has five stars all over, it does indeed offer great services with awesome quality not only for mopes, motorcycles, snow mobiles, boats, engines in general, but also for cars.
Frank has at least 17 years of experience and services cars, vans with expertise, doesn’t matter the brand. I have tried with at least two different cars, a working van and a moped. He goes right to the spot, quick, reliable and affordable. My husband and I carry his contact with us in case the car, van or moped breaks or has any problems, because in an emergency he also can go to where you are (Not New York or Maine though!).
The best I can get in the region, definitely.

I have been going to Smooth Auto (formerly Smooth Scooters) for 5 years now, I have had them work on two of my Vespas, and Frank was meticulous with his work, he really understands scooter, and Vespas specifically. In the past they have been able to get Vespa parts the same day because they sent one of their mechanics out around Boston to track it down. I used their winter storage service this past winter, and it was great to have safe and clean indoor storage at a very good rate.
Frank is an excellent mechanic and he and Kelly both possess a wealth of knowledge about the scooter world and are great for advice. I feel much better knowing I have a reliable mechanic team to work with for any problems with my Vespa. I would recommend any Vespa owners to try them out.

The Sym Symba I bought from Frank is still working great (and Frank even gave me my first oil change for free), but I brought in my wife’s Honda Metro b/​c the speedometer/​odometer stopped working. Did I buy it there? Nope. Did he even hesitate to service it? Not for a second. It didn’t end up being a very involved fix, but I was really happy that he did it while I waited, and for super-​duper cheap.
Btw, their website doesn’t have all of their scooter inventory listed… as of yesterday, they’re selling some used Vespa and Sym scooters (maybe a few others, too), If you’re looking for a scoot, it’s helpful to go down to the shop to see what they’ve got.

After Herb Chambers overcharges you and breaks your scooter, bring it here to have it fixed.
I called up Smooth Scooters after reading all of the reviews, as I was in need of some routine maintenance and some new tires. I was impressed from start to finish — they were honest about everything, fixed everything I requested, charged a fair price, gave relevant safety tips, know what they’re doing, are fans of the proper sports teams, and are just nice all around. Let’s hope that Frank can clone a few copies of himself once word gets out about how good this place is.
Once by scooter dies, I’ll go here to buy my next one.

This place is aces. I took my Honda Ruckus to Frank and said I wanted it tricked out. I left with a new exhaust, some custom fabrication, some engine work, and a smile. After a while when I wanted to sell my scooter I gave it to Smooth and the process was painless. My favorite thing about Smooth is they don’t make you feel like a jerk for asking questions. I Like this place so much I want another motorcycle or scooter just so I can have another reason to go there.

Update… Frank is great! He gets 5+ stars! Since my last review when i first met Frank, I have bought a new SYM scooter from Frank and he has become my new mechanic for my Honda CRV. From oil changes, tires and more for my car to the many upgrades on my scooter, he is my go to guy. Frank is fair, knowledgable and knows his stuff. He has been a mechanic for 17 years and is a master mechanic. Don’t let the name fool you, his name should be smooth scooters, cars, trucks and even saw a snowblower or two. He fixes and upgrades all brands and sizes of scooters and motorcycles and he will soon be doing MA motorcycle and scooter inspections. My advise, choose Frank!

So after the break in period on my new scooter I brought it back down to Smooth Scooters for a check up and fluid change just like the manuel says. And not only were they happy to see me again at the shop, they didn’t even charge me for anything! Everyone down there was super friendly as always and provided me with awesome service! Thanks Guys!

Special thanks go out ot the guys at Aero Cycle in Medford for sending me here. I’d snapped my clutch cable on my PX150 on a rainy Friday night and was looking for some help on Saturday morning. I called Herb Chambers and they said they’d look into it and get back to me in a little bit. Its now Monday, still no word from them.
I rolled into Smooth Scooters at around 12:30 and by just after 1pm, Frank had made me a new clutch cable and installed it for me. Needless to say, I’m taking my vespa there from now on. They are everything that Herb Chambers (where I bought the bike) is not. I needed to get my speedometer fixed and was told that I could bring it in in 2 weeks and that it was ‘ok’ to drive without a working speedometer or odometer.
I’m taking it in to Frank tonight to fix it. No more trips to Brighton for me.
If you ever have a problem with your scooter, go see Frank. You won’t be disappointed.

Smooth Moves is a secret I want to keep sharing! Ever since stumbling across them at a booth in Davis Square, they’ve been my go-​to repair shop. Frank has ordered and installed new mirrors for me and fixed a broken kickstand by creating a sturdier one. The shop itself is pleasant and orderly and they are great about letting me grab a folding chair to read and hang out while I wait for my scooter to be fixed. Best part — they will work on Vespas! Since I hate Herb Chambers, it has been rough, getting someone to work on my Vespa, but Frank totally is happy to do it. Yay!

This place is great for repairs and has a small but decent selection of scooters for sale. The owner is a really nice guy and does a good job. I had a backfiring problem that was making it pretty embarrassing to go anywhere and it was also killing my top speed. He fixed it up in a day. He gave me a pretty good explanation about how it happened and how to prevent it from happening again.
I really like this place and I hope they stick around…
