They attempted to charge me over $ 29 for a USPS Flat Rate Box. A box that costs just slightly over $ 12 at the post office. Their explanation? «We have to make a profit.» While I certainly agree that they are entitled to make a profit, and I’m more than happy to put, say, $ 5 or so on top of the flat rate charge, for the convenience of no crazy post office lines this Christmastime of year, this price seemed very exorbitant. When I was trying to ascertain the price difference, he told me repeatedly that he had no idea what my Flat Rate box would cost at the post office. Perhaps he doesn’t. But I found that odd, and a bit unprofessional. More likely is that he would rather not go there with me, or his other customers, because then he will have to discuss how obviously inflated their prices are. At this point, I had already given him two smaller Christmas envelopes that he weighed, and priced, and put out for shipping. When I became so alarmed about the cost of the flat rate box, I inquired about the Christmas envelope prices. I was going to get those back. But he assured me that they just cost .25 more than at the post office. I later found out that he/they charged me more than double, not a quarter more a piece. Now, you can say that he has no idea about the post office charge on those as well, or you can say that he was less than honest. I will leave that to your imagination.
