This is one of the traditional Mexican places that are opening up around town. It is on the site of a previous small Mexican restaurant that didn’t last long. I went in there one mid-afternoon when I wasn’t really hungry, so I just had a couple tamales — one pork, one cheese. $ 3.98 for the two — they came with a bit of cheese and a kind of gravy on top. They were of a reasonable size and pretty tasty. They have a medium-sized menu. Menudo is served on weekends. The only thing I find off-putting about the place are the chips. When I came in they were already sitting on the tables. They can do this because they are fried from big thick corn tortillas and left out forever, it seems. They are hard to chew, and have likely been sitting in front of everyone else that ate there for a while. They last and last, ’cause no one would want to eat very many of them. They are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. M-Sat and 8 – 5 on Sundays. The breakfast menu includes chorizo con huevos, huevos rancheros, and breakfast burritos. For the rest of the day, there’s the usual assortment of tacos, tostadas, tortas, burritos, and various plates of meat, beans and rice. And finally there are atole gallina, champurrado and arroz con leche. This place is on a one-way(westbound) street, but one can also access it from the north via Summit Street.
