History
Established in 1998.
Growing up I always enjoyed the classroom environment, and I recreate it every time I tutor. An atmosphere where real learning takes place with no distractions is one of my goals for every tutoring session.
In November of 1998 I joined Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts. The training was very interesting, though I didn’t get to tutor much due to an abundance of tutors/shortage of students. In December of ’98 I started tutoring privately and came up with the company name Class Size of One. From hanging flyers, to a listing in the Yellow Pages, to registering the website domain classsizeofone.com, everything seemed to grow and unfold organically.
People ask me all the time, «Why don’t you get a teaching job at a school?» And while I’m flattered that they envision me standing in front of a classroom, and appreciate their interest in me having a steady, secure income, I always have to point out that tutoring is the thing for me, and that teachers and tutors are not interchangeable.
