Changes Salon & Day Spa

This salon will basically do your hair to how they want and basically overcharge for something you did not want after showing multiple pictures. I would like to share my experience with this salon. I left the salon this week being charged 260 $ for a cut, color, and 7 strands of highlights and a ruined shirt that the stylist got color all over the back of my shirt! After the pictures the stylist said («I know what I’m doing just trust me .») I was never informed that the cost would exceed that high. After complaining that the end result was way different then pictures I showed her. I returned to have them fix it and was treated so rudely and the owner said that to get hair like that picture I showed her the first time we will have to charge you for more highlights! my question to her was what was the $ 260 for she walked away! I will never go back to that salon EVER. The services you get at this salon are NOT worth the money these people are paying. After still not being happy with the second time The end result is I left result hair I no longer like is to go to the better business organization and file a complaint for refund and cost of the shirt that they refuse to pay for.

I wrote a review for Changes a year ago. Some of it still stands. When you walk in, you are immediately greeted and offered a drink. This salon is spotless. I recommend to go to Changes for brow waxing, massages, and facials. The staff for this side of the house is professional. I found that some staff on the other side of the house –hair side– could use some polishing. They gossip about each other and clients. When I was there, they were taking selfies. It made me feel uncomfortable. The difference between the two sides were night and day. I read other reviews and other people seem to have had negative experiences w stylists.

Two stars only because my brow shaping/​spa experience was very good. The salon not at all. Do not come here if you have anything other than naturally straight, texture less hair.
I needed to polish up for an interview after a cross country move. When I called them, my first warning should have been the receptionists comment…“what’s ethnic hair?” I explained my hair as being very very curly bordering African American hair. She assigned me to a stylist she claimed as specialist of curls for the next day.
The Good:
The salon was clean, nicely decorated and portrayed a façade of professionalisim. I was oferred a beverage shortly after being seated in their wait room. The spa experience was great. I was seen on time and finished on time. My brows looked amazing! No swelling, or strays and a cleaned hair/​browline. I had a wonderful first impression.
The bad:
My stylist was very late for her appointment with me. The salon was not busy on a Thursday at 10:45 am. Someone came and got my hair washed at 11:00am. That person was very thorough with washing, conditioning and massaging my hair and scalp. They had me wait for the stylist.
The stylist came out 10 mins later. No real consultation or analysis of my hair. She grabbed a few strands and stated my hair would be difficult and that it needed a flat iron after blow drying. Then I waited 8 more mins until she sat me at her station. After blow drying some sections, she said «Oh, well your hair is very manageable and responding well to heat!» This led me to belive she knew what she was doing. I was feeling hopeful once more…
The ugly (me primarily):
Not only did she NOT know how to blow dry ethnic hair, which caused me to look like a lion by the time I paid, (hair was puffy, roots where not properly straightened) her tardiness caused me to be 20 mins late to my interview!
Needless to say, I Didnt get the job. I also had to re do my hair because it was already unprofessionally frizzy by the afternoon. THANKS CHANGES.

I cannot recommend this place — for the professionalism of a stylist, or the attention to customer service. Last week, I got what was supposed to be a trim — leave the length and provide some texture. In mid-​cut, I could see she was chopping off long lengths of my fairly short hair, and I tried to stop her. She said, «I’ve been cutting hair for 19 years. I know what I’m doing. Trust me.» I know that a bad haircut is a luxury, a small problem in the grand scheme of things, but I called twice about this horrendous cut, and both times, all I got was, «A manager will call you back.»

Massage was good but you could hear everything going on in salon. Had my nails done for my wedding, french tips, simple, classic. Lines are uneven and very thick making my long nail beds look stubby, plus I have polish left on my finger tips. My tech was not exactly friendly. The young woman who did my daughter’s nails worked very well with her, though 35 for a mani pedi for a 5 yo seemed rather expensive. And 75 for the quality, or lack there of, was way too much.

First visit today. Had a massage where Terri walked on my back. It was very relaxing for me and clearly something that she is well trained to do. The first part of the massage was with hands while I laid face up and the masseuse was very purposeful with her touch. i would definitely recommend to a friend or return for another service.

I have been to Changes a few times. A couple times for a hair cut, and once for a message. The times I was there for a hair cut, I was please with the outcome of the hair, but never thrilled with the overall service. For the price, and how they pride themselves on being a «Spa» I would expect a more relaxed atmosphere, and friendly service.
My last visit for a massage was definitely my last visit there ever! I made the appointment the day of, excited that they were able to get me in on the same day. I specifically changed the time, because I clearly stated I wanted the longer appointment. On the web site, they stated to come in early to enjoy the atmosphere??? I arrived 15 min early, and waited for a half hour! in a busy reception area, and no one said anything to me!!! why should you go early? When I was finally taken back, I noted right away, there was no music playing or anything relaxing about the room. could hear all the hustle going on outside the rooms. THEN, he said he was done, and I thought, wow, that was quick. got dressed and went out to pay. as I was paying I noticed the time, he only gave me the shorter massage. Even the receptionist said, «yea, I don’t know why that happened» but that was it! I am a working mom with little time to get out and pamper myself, and was really looking forward to treating myself. It was huge disappointment!

I have been seeing Carla for over 5 years even prior to her being at Changes. Today was a solid reminder of why I should never waste my money seeing someone else. Her skills are simply amazing. Looking forward to my next visit in 2 weeks.

Just got a second service and it was wonderful– a back facial. Includes massage, exfoliation and unclogging pores. Terri was great.

I’ve had excellent waxing experiences here. Terri and Tammy both are very experienced, knowledgable, and gentle (well, as gentle as they can be!). The spa area is always immaculate, and the customer service is top-​notch. Nail services are also great here. I have not had any salon services, so I cannot speak to that, but if you are looking for a reputable, clean, high-​class waxing experience, this is the place!

I am writing this review following a Brazilian wax – with hard wax (I guess they offer both hard wax and strip wax? but only some estheticians know how to use the hard wax). Let me start off by saying I’m from a larger city on the east coast and just moved to a small town near Hershey. I’ve gotten waxes at many places but have been going to European Wax Center for quite a while before moving here a week ago.
The esthetician who did my wax was super nice and chatty which provided wonderful distraction from the pain that accompanies such waxing… and I must say she took her time and took off smaller areas which in my opinion made it less painful.
that being said… IT TOOK FOR EVER. literally almost 45 minutes (I’ve had better Brazilians is less than 20). she didn’t even attempt to the do back; everything else is hardly acceptable but I’ve certainly had worse. This is not surprising to me, she straight up told me she wasn’t formally trained in doing Brazilians because the school she went to charged extra for it.
This bothered me. but the part that really bothered me is that she didn’t use gloves… and double dipped in the wax… I didn’t notice until about halfway through but ew… I’m a nurse… enough said.
The pre-​wax oil actually worked very well. But I though it was strange there was no after-care…it took me an hour to drive home in traffic and I was dying the entire way home.
If I paid $ 30 for this, I may not have written this review, but I paid $ 52 not including tip! This is more than I paid at EWC (including tip) and other spas that are considered more high end in the city.
overall, I need to find another place near Hershey that uses hard wax, because my poor sensitive skin can’t handle strip wax which seems to be more popular in this area. OR just drive to the EWC in Collegeville and make a day of it once a month…

I went to Changes in February for a massage and wax and it has taken me this long to work up to writing a review. I hate leaving negative feedback, but this place has definitely earned the one star review.
Upon arrival there was NO intake form for the massage OR the wax. Unacceptable! They had no clue as to my medical history, acceptability for massage/​wax, what medications I was on, contraindications, etc. This is incredibly irresponsible as a business, I was shocked they would take these risks.
The massage was, hands down, the WORST massage I’ve ever had in my life — and I have had too many to count. I got a 25 minute relaxation massage (for my shoulder ache) and I felt rushed and uncomfortable the entire time. The floors are not carpeted so you can hear your massage therapist moving around loudly the entire time. There was no bolster for under my knees or ankles. They used oil as opposed to crème or lotion (which doesn’t absorb as well and leaves a greasy feel), but the major problem was she didn’t use enough oil and there was too much friction. I honestly felt like my massage therapist hated her job. $ 52 for this joke? I’m truly ashamed of myself for handing out my hard earned money for it.
I also got a Brazilian wax (first one ever) and the woman who did it was personable and polite, but I was disappointed in the results. The amount and areas of hair left were not ok. It was like she just stopped at a certain point and decided that was enough. Also, she didn’t even make an attempt to do the back. ?! That’s pretty standard and I was shocked when she said she was done and stepped out. Another weird thing was that I was not given anything to cover up with initially. I understand that there isn’t a need for a towel/​drape/​whatever during the treatment, but beforehand there should be a small privacy drape so people walking down the hall don’t get an eyeful. Talk about awkward…
The people at the front desk had a superior air to them and I felt like I was being judged a little the whole time. All in all, I will NEVER recommend this place to anybody for anything. There are better places in the areas. Carlisle has two spa/​clinic options, Chambersburg, Shippensburg, etc. It is worth the drive to go somewhere else.
EDIT: It seems that other customer DO get intake forms, so I’m not sure why I didn’t.

This place is awful. Do not get waxing done at Changes unless you would like to be disfigured.
I just had the worst brazilian wax of my life. I am swollen, have raw skin, and severe bruising… oh and lots of hair left. The so-​called esthetician took an hour to do my wax (they normally take 15 – 20 minutes). She also didn’t even attempt to do the back. I guess I should be grateful she doesn’t know what a brazilian wax is or else I would have raw, bruised skin in other places. Can I also mention again that I still have a lot of hair left? She also repeatedly kept telling me it was my fault for waiting so long to get a wax and that’s why it wasn’t working.
I call absolute BS! She clearly had no idea what she was doing or the salon had poor equipment. Probably both. have been getting brazilian waxes on and off for about 8 years now and have gone 6+ months between waxes with no issues whatsoever. I have even had waxes while traveling/​living in third world countries that were 1000X better than this wax. I have never in my life had bruising, swelling, or skin ripped off until coming to Changes. I will never, ever, ever, ever go here again or let anyone who I know go here. It is truly awful.

Massage on 2÷27÷13. Ambiance — 1 and actual treatment was a 3. First time visitor. I came in for a massage as my neck and shoulders were all knotted up. The massage was decent and Courtney had a good attitude. Price seemed high for M’burg ($ 77+tip for 50 mins). I will not return until they invest in soundproofing or a separate building for treatment rooms. I came in for some R&R and all I heard through my massage was incessant chatter, faucets running, and hair dryers being run! I’ve been to mall spas that were quieter! Overall not what I was expecting at all. Unilocalers please suggest an alternate location where I can get some piece and quiet. Overall a disappointing experience.

Someone needs to remind the employees that they are NOT in NYC! The receptionists are rude and snobby — price isn’t worth the rude service.

As an update, I have since gone to another salon that came highly recommended from a few co-​workers of mine that is a lot closer! I live in York, so driving the 40+ minutes to Mechanicsburg to then pay upwards of $ 200 for hair services was becoming less and less worth it. I am now seeing Kerri at Bella Cheveux and absolutely love her highlights… actually, I like them better than the highlights Kelly gave me at Changes. Oh, and did I mention it was only around $ 100 for a FULL highlight and toner? Oh yes. So glad I was referred there, I am much, much happier — and so is my hair!

I don’t normally take the time to write reviews on here, but this time I had to.
First of all, I am giving this place 2 stars for the place only and not my stylist. My stylist was Tiffany and she was amazing. I have been to all kinds of salons in Philly and Tiffany made my hair do things that I didn’t even know were possible. I told her I wanted to grow my hair out and she cut it so that it actually looked longer. Amazing.
Now for the downside: the environment. A spa should be a place to relax, but everyone felt so on edge here. (Not Tiffany, she was friendly, but you could feel the tension in the place.) I wondered why until I saw how the manager talks to her employees. (I think her name is Marla or something with an M maybe.) She talks to everyone who works there with such disrespect and is not friendly to the clients at all. I don’t know why any of the employees stay and put up with it. Maybe the manager was just having a bad day, but she was being extremely unprofessional.
I will be back to have Tiffany do my hair, but hopefully I can schedule an appointment when the manager is not there so I can relax at this day spa.

Disappointing. As everyone else has mentioned, the prices are too high. The experience should be City-​like and its not. Literally ordered 500+ of pampering for my wife and her sister and although they had fun, it was not professionally done. We expect more, and I think you should too for this money. There are other really good salons around here that do a better job for less money. We spend a lot of money on salons, but will not be coming back.

By far the best pedicure I have ever had!
My grandmother took me here as a post-​job transfer and move treat and it was awesome! We were able to just soak for about 10 minutes and were not rushed at all. Not to mention the two girls that did our pedis were so friendly. They involved us in their conversations and were just very nice and considerate as to not have personal conversations in front of clients.
The only downside was that the girls doing our pedicures were yelled at by the manager while working on us. Apparently they ordered lunch and it was delivered but they didn’t have their money at the front because they were with us (the clients). So the manager interrupted our wonderful pedis to ream these nice, professional ladies a new one. The manager was very unprofessional. Not to mention the manager didn’t even bother apologizing to us.
I would defiantly go back! Hopefully the next time the manager is a little more professional.
