Prince’s Court – International Tennis Club of Washington

Great facility, we are very very lucky to have this locally.
Nicely lit court, plus one side that is all glass really is a very nice touch. The design provides a great mix of the old traditional court design with a contemporary feel that is great for players and viewers. The leather seating is a great spot to watch the action, as well as the seating on the service side. The court is nicely tucked away upstairs.
I’ve really enjoyed my time with the pros and would definitely recommend them to anyone interested in the game. Very nice guys that know their trade well and will make you feel very welcome.

While the court is tucked away back and up a bunch of stairs in the sports club, Ivan the pro makes up for everything. The court is one of the few «real tennis» courts with a glass wall as you might see in squash or racquetball. That takes a little getting used to but otherwise this is a great gem in McLean just off the beltway.

Prince’s Court is one of only ten courts of its genre in the whole of the States. It is DC’s home to «Court Tennis» and should be tried by anybody with a bit of adventure in them, or who want to try something very few have. You will know immediately if you like it and if you do prepare yourself for a lifetime of addiction!
Prince’s Court is an oasis hidden in the rafters of a health club whose own members are generally unaware of this gem. It has an enormous glass wall to watch play through, and lovely leather sofas to lounge on.
The Pro’s (of which I am one) are both from England and are always pleased to see new faces. They will offer a free lesson for those who are interested, but more importantly, a glass of wine to all comers!
The sport was last in the Olympics in the early 1900’s and now only survives in the USA, England, France and Australia. This makes the International community very close and travel to other clubs is very much encouraged.
The members are all very friendly and indeed most of them are real characters, so there is always some great banter to be had.
We play with bent wooden racquets and hand made balls so mishits are common, as is the giggle from your opponent when you miss the ball completely! There are targets to hit, bells to ring and rooftops to bounce your ball off, so the challenge is continuous.
There is a café downstairs serving beautiful freshly made soups everyday (among other things not as good), and if you tell the waiter that Philip says there’s a nice curry available you might enjoy that too!
The Pro’s arrange matches to suit your schedule and will always find opponents for you. A handicap system is used to match up players. This means people of all ages and gender can play each other and have a really good time.
The club is keen for people to experience the game (as only 10,000ish people in the world know about it) and are offering free play for a month, starting from when you first try it. It would be lovely to read further reviews of the place and see how many of you become addicted!
The club is situated DC side of Tyson’s shopping centre so call in if you’re passing.
