McLean Face and Body Spa

I received a facial here. I would summarize it as mediocre. I liked the exfoliating tool they use. But in general, this was a nothing special standard facial. Also, the aesthetician left the room for 10 minutes while one of the masks was setting. This is always a major red flag and turn off for me… I can lay at home for 10 min with a mask, I’m paying for the overall experience and there are many other things that could be done during that time that are standard at many other spas (like massaging the neck, shoulder, scalp, hand, feet).

Maria is great. I told her I have sensitive skin and she was very careful and made sure that I was informed of what was going on every step of the facial. Next is a massage.

Forget about Red Door, this is the place to go if you want to leave refreshed, relaxed and revitalized.
I’ve visited this spa about 7 times since I’ve moved to VA and I would definitely live there if I had the expendable income to do so! I absolutely love this place. My best and my most favorite facials and massages were done here, by Randy and Maria. From what I remember, I believe Randy has over 20 years experience in professional massage, so this man knows his stuff! Maria facials are exquisite and her facial massage is ethereal. My skin was glowing for weeks afterward!
The atmosphere is very charming, cozy and inviting. Randy, Maria and the rest of their staff are fantastic!

I’m a massage junkie, and I freely admit my obsession. Randy is, by far, the best masseuse I’ve been to in over 15 years. Don’t let the small size and location throw you off. This is a family-​owned business, which I’ve been visiting for over 6 years, and it’s located in a very unassuming spot next to a bank. It’s not jazzed up like a top-​tier spa, so yes, you will on occasion hear a person say good bye or hello as they walk in. It’s not distracting at all. Randy is also extremely accommodating, and will adjust temperature as needed. I saw that complaint in another review… but like any other person, he’s not a mind reader, so you do have to actually say something if your experience isn’t ideal.
As far as pure technique, I had migraines for years that no medication could counter. I went to Randy twice a month for a few months, and my migraine frequency has been reduced to a tenth of what it used to be, even 4 years later. He’s my go to for any injury, migraine, arthritis, fibromyalgia, or just a need for relaxation. Don’t miss out!

I found McLean face and body spa off of Unilocal and decided to give it a try after reading all the good reviews. I was able to book a prenatal massage and facial with less than 24 hours notice; and the special they were running was good…2 hour long services for $ 150.
When I arrived, Maria was very nice an welcoming and they showed me to the massage room. I had an amazing prenatal massage with Brittany, followed by a facial with Maria. I came out relaxed and rejuvenated. I will definitely be coming back!

Awesome. I picked this place based on reviews — a friend had given me a SpaFinder gift certificate, and I chipped in some of my own money to do the «Two hour vacation» package (60-​min massage plus basic facial). Totally worth it — I’ve had massages before, but never with the hot stones, and I really liked them. Randy is great about making sure he’s focusing on what you want, how much pressure to use, etc — I really liked that he ‘checked in’ at one point to ask if it was too hard/​soft/​whatever.
After the massage, I went to the other room where Maria did my facial — soooo relaxing. I’m not as familiar with facials as with massages, but I really liked the way she explained what types of products she was putting on my face, and for what (e.g. exfoliator, gel mask, vitamin e &c, etc.). I think I dozed off for a couple of minutes during the time I was alone while the gel mask was setting ;-)
I’m not sure what another review was saying about room temperature — not only was it fine (and I’m always cold…), but the tables/​beds they use are heated — really nice touch.
I saw friends that evening and they couldn’t believe how relaxed I was. Now I just have to figure out how to fit regular visits here into my budget…

This is the best quality and most reasonably priced spa in the area! Maria is so accomodating and professional — she gives excellent facials and my skin feels and looks just radiant! She uses great products which don’t feel heavy or oily. Excellent service and results all around!

I’ve had therapeutic massages in luxury resorts and many day spas. My experience at McLean Face and Body did not impress me very much. My masseuse did an adequate job, but I was not very relaxed or totally comfortable during the session. The massage room is kept at a pretty cold temperature — and on 15 degree days in January, that’s not what you want. So for my massage my hands were like ice cubes. In addition to being cold, I couldn’t help but notice sounds from everywhere — conversations in the reception room, plumbing noises (water running), and the traffic outside. For a top scale day spa, one thing that CAN and SHOULD be controlled is the environment of the massage room: get a thermostat and keep the room at 72 degrees; invest in some sound insulation for the walls and door/​window so that they only thing the client hears is the soothing sounds of the music.
For much less money, you can have a better experience at Massage Envy.
PS — Parking was not ideal, as I had to circle the lot twice to get a spot.

Why am I always giving 5 stars? Maybe because I do my research on Unilocal and get great results.
Had a massage from Randy forever ago — but he did far more to help than the physical therapist did. Hurt so good! He did ask numerous times if it was too much pressure — so my appreciation of the discomfort shouldn’t put anyone off. Great massage.
Got a facial from Maria a week ago. A few great things — nice and relaxing, though I’m more likely to return for a massage — but no skin breakout as I have had previously getting facials, and no pressure buying their goods. Not only that, but she sent me away with free testers! And free chocolates! And told me to take some for the kids.
Great facial, I felt better, looked better, and am happy…

I have had many massages around town but never as good as Randy. If you like to walk out of a massage like you have had a massage, this is where to go. As others have said, Randy knows how to get the knots out and have you so relaxed you don’t want the massage to end.
I also have to whole heartedly endorse the facial. I was never one for having a facial-​worried of side effects. I now have the clearest, cleanest face and feel fantastic-​no side effects… what was I waiting for!

I read a lot of reviews in looking for a place to have a facial, and settled on this place in part due to the Unilocal reviews — and the Unilocal reviewers didn’t let me down. Going in, my skin was dry and tired looking. The facial was super relaxing (i actually dozed off twice), Maria explained each step and its purpose, and I left there with noticeably improved skin. Its now two weeks later, and my skin has continued to look and feel so much better and friends have asked where I went as they can see such a noticeable difference. I haven’t been a regular facial kind-​of-​person, but I will be back!

BEST message and facial ever! Ive had messages and facials at some of the high end places and this one hands down the best ive had! I have acne pron skin and this reduced the redness and breakouts after just one facial. Great job! you will be pleased!

I LOVE THIS PLACE! besides the fact that they stock/​sell and burn capri blue’s «volcano» candles (the amazing stuff you smell when you walk into any anthropologie), they give Heavenly massages.
I had Elizabeth and she was awesome– I went for the pick-​me-​up massage in the middle of finals week and I kept drifting in and out of sleep because it was so relaxing. the oils they use don’t have strong scents, and the hot stones used throughout the massage are a welcome touch.
Elizabeth is one skilled lady, I’m excited to go back again!

I’ve been coming here for a year or two (or three?) for massages. Randy does a great job. He goes deep where it’s needed and not so deep when it’s not. He chats when I want to chat and doesn’t when I don’t. He uses heated stones and a massage oil that is somehow odorless and weightless. I’m feeling more relaxed just thinking about a massage.
You can buy gift certificates online for last minutes gifts (which is what my husband did for my first visit here). You can also get lovely facials (but I much prefer massages over facials). There are monthly specials on the web site and through email.

Let me first say that I’ve never gotten any facial treatments in the past, so I don’t really have a way of comparing my experience with previous facial experiences because I’ve never gotten any. However, I have a wonderful experience here.
A lovely friend of mine gave me a gift certificate for a facial massage for my last birthday. Almost six months later (today), I finally carved out the time to make use of it and I’m so glad I did. The spa is tucked in a little plaza-​ish location off Old Dominion, across from a Joe’s Burger’s and other assorted eateries I’ve never paid much attention to.
You lie under heated blankets while Maria first cleans your face quickly with soap and toner then applies a steamed towel to your face (opens up the pores, I suppose). There’s some sort of apparatus to blow steam across your face — but it’s just the right temperature so don’t worry — then skillfully rubs massage oil across your face. She’s very gentle around the nose and applied just the right pressure around my chin and jaw. There is soothing keyboard music playing in the background and the lights are dimmed.
I nearly fell asleep b/​c it was all so pleasant; I can’t remember the last time my mind was free from impending to-do’s. Maria also told me for the most part what she was doing («first I’m going to [do this or that]» then «now I’m going to [do this or that]»).
This was a facial massage, not a facial, but quite frankly, my skin could probably use a facial b/​c it’s not very clear right now. I read on their website that they don’t try to push products at you and true to their word, Maria didn’t do that, which was nice. However, at the end, Maria did keep stressing that I could benefit from a facial, etc etc. She even gave me a $ 25 gift certificate for a future facial. Granted, I’d have to use it towards their Biorenu Facial, which is the most expensive facial on their Services list (it’s $ 155) and I probably won’t be able to afford that. Still though, my experience here with Maria was wonderful so I would love to come back (though for a less expensive service) in the future.
