Specialties
The McKinney Convention & Visitors Bureau is the first stop for most visitors to our community and we love sharing our town with them! We strive to help visitors have the best possible experience while here by providing a variety of printed information and in-person interaction with visitors in our McKinney Visitors Center, via our website and our various social media avenues (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, blog, and more). We also work with groups to support events held here through securing hotel room blocks, providing goody bags and literature for attendees, and matching event organizers’ needs with service providers and vendors who can help make the events successful. We also work to bring travel writers and television and movie crews so they can take the stories and images of our community out to a wide audience!
The MCVB is a entity within the city government, run by a 9-member board appointed by the City Council. We are funded by a percentage of the city’s collected lodging tax.
History
Established in 1999.
When the organization first started serving visitors to McKinney, it was located on the downtown square and was known as McKinney Tourism Services. The office then moved into the Chamber of Commerce building on Virginia near Central Expressway, and operated as an entity within the Chamber. In 2007, the organization, per a City Council vote, was renamed the McKinney Convention & Visitors Bureau and was transitioned out from under the Chamber, operating as an independent organization within the city. Still reporting to a Board of Directors, the MCVB also added two position to its staff and moved to a new location. Then Christmas week of 2012, the MCVB relocated its office back to the downtown square where they plan to stay, as the historic downtown is the primary attraction that brings visitors to McKinney again and again.
