Specialties

We are a rescue group in the North Dallas area. Our team is dedicated to helping dogs who are unwanted, abandoned, or lost. We focus on finding these loyal souls proper care and loving forever homes. If you are interested in fostering, volunteering, or donating — please contact us immediately. The more help we receive, the more lives we can save!

History

Established in 2008.

LHS (the name was later changed in Aug 2014 to Legacy Humane

Society to serve a broader community of pets in need) was started in 2008 by Molly

Peterson, Kevyn McGee, Tiara Mason, Eric Peterson and Lisa Weinstein (then Cornish)

under the name Collin County Humane Society. Just a hand full of volunteers with a

dream and some big plans! Our first year we adopted 563 dogs/puppies and grew to a

program with over 80 foster homes and 100+ volunteers. We are honored to have you

join our team and look forward to working with you to help save many doggies in the

DFW area!

Meet the Business Owner

Molly P.

Business Owner

Molly rescued her first dog from death row in 2000 and hasn’t stopped since!

It was at a shelter in LA that she learned about dog rescue and soon thereafter served as the Vice President for All Retriever’s Friends in L.A.

Molly graduated with a BS in Psychology from California Lutheran University. When she moved to Texas, she began working with Flower Mound Humane Society and also served on the intake team with DFW Lab Rescue as well as fostering for DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue.

Now, as President of Legacy Humane Society and Executive Director of the Rockwall Animal Adoption Center, Molly does for animals what many can only dream of doing as she continues to take in, care for and find forever homes for countless animals in the DFW area and beyond.
