We are a hometown full line, clean pet shop specializing in holistic and natural pet food. We are now carrying raw food for your cats and dogs. Also we have the areas largest selection of saltwater fish and corals as well as fresh water fish and accessories, and do specialty orders of all kinds. We have a friendly and well informed staff.

History

Established in 1995.

Pet Central has been in McHenry for 17years. in 2012 the new owners and have taken this great neighborhood store and even made it better.

By focusing on great personal service and a clean bright store this store has never been better.

This store loves animals and serves those that are lovers of their pets.

We continue to introduce new and holistic pet foods for dogs and cats. As well as recently expanded its selection of Corals and Saltwater fish.

Round Lake, IL
Extremely friendly. Their mascot, Sookie, is adorable. Reasonable prices, especially being a mom and pop shop. You can tell they love animals. I would say the store itself isn’t the cleanest, but the pet areas are immaculate, which is the most important. They have a smaller selection, but exactly what I needed. I would go there again. And, I can’t wait to tell my husband about their fish.

Ever since getting a Bearded Dragon, I’ve been interested in getting a leopard gecko and have been traveling around from shop to shop.
I’ve only been to Pet Central once, but unfortunately it didn’t leave the greatest impression on me. I am specifically concerned about the reptiles there. They are all kept on sand, which can be harmful for small reptiles, as it can cause impaction in many species. They had a nice assortment of Leopard geckos, but out of their three tanks not one had a mossy humid hide for them to shed in. They also had UVB bulbs lit which can be harmful to their eyesight if exposed to for long periods of time. Their Blue-​Tongued Skink also looked uncomfortable with sand stuck to his feet.
Maybe they keep the leopard geckos in a different tank at night, or bathe all their reptiles to assist in their shedding. But from the living conditions I saw, it made me very nervous if I were to ever buy a reptile from there. I want to like this store, but I’m worried for the reptiles that are being kept there.

The owner Darius is super helpful, patient, and informative. They have supplies for all sorts of pets, and the best part is the back room with all the aquariums — freshwater and saltwater tanks. There were some species of fish that I wasn’t familiar with, so it’s a good place to find some rarer ones. I imagine he can order things for customers too. He recently helped me in a huge way by taking off my hands some fish that came with a tank that i won in a raffle, and I’ll be forever grateful because these poor fish were overloaded in a nano tank. It’s nice to see a «mom and pop» pet store going above and beyond to build relationships with their customers.

This place is great! We walked in about a ½ hour before they closed (I hate when people do that!) on LABOR DAY and of course my 2 year old had to stop and look at the ALL fish for what seemed like forever! After wandering around making sure to stop and look at the many different varieties of animals we finally made it to the register for our grand purchase of a dozen crickets, totaling a little over a dollar? The guy couldn’t be nicer! I never felt rushed or like I ruined the start to to his holiday weekend. He asked about our purchase and even threw in some free moss for our toads to sit on! This place is a real find! Lots of different animals and customer service still exists here! ;)

I don’t think anyone could love animals more than the folks who own this place! A true mom-​and-​pop store. Shop here and you’ll do your furry friends a favor while helping the local economy.
