I’m a big geek and love craft-like activities. Usually I get my best ideas wandering around stores and looking at various items and thinking of different ways to use them. Hobby Lobby is a land of a bazillion potential ideas. I walked around for an hour and a half(much to my sister’s dismay) and had to stop myself from starting too many projects at once. The home décor items are at the very least interesting and the very best unique and fantastic. You’ll find your fair share of ceramic roosters, but there are some great treasures there as well. I don’t like buying things there unless they are on sale. It seems to rotate through the sections. One day ribbon is full price, the next day it is half price. Just don’t pay full price unless you have to. The paintbrush section is a lot better than Michael’s selection. There are more brands and higher quality brands with more brush shapes. It’s no Blick, but for suburban McHenry, it gets the job done. The paper options are also notable. They had a LOT of different types and prints. Some Michaels have a good selection, but I have yet to see one as good as Hobby Lobby. If you are like me and like picking up items and getting ideas, the clearance section is like a treasure hunt. I picked up a lot of very cheap items that I know I will use in the future. It’s quite fun to dig through. Why 2 stars? The owner of Hobby Lobby has no interest in supporting women’s rights or gay rights. WHODOYOUTHINKSHOPSATYOURSTORE??? While I think the employees I’ve come across are fantastic and truly enjoy the store, I just can’t give it more than 2 stars. And sadly after writing this and feeling rather hypocritical about shopping here… I will put my money behind companies who care about the rights of their customers and employees.

I LOVE Hobby Lobby. The store is what you would expect from Hobby Lobby, a wide variety of art and art supplies, crafts, etc. Though I never really believed that religion should have a place in business. Seems like they are trying to cash in on the overwhelming christian population in the country if you ask me. I am christian too, by the way. Nevertheless, I love this place, I come here for all my art needs. Just don’t try to get a job here, as I guess this annoys them. I recently applied there, and when I went to turn it in some old ugly-faced sour woman at the register accepted it with a grunt and wouldn’t even look me in the eye, much less smile at me, regardless of my polite manners. I thought this was just her, and for a moment thought«If they’ll hire this troll they’ll hire me for sure» and so I decided not to let it bother me. But then I called and spoke with a manager named Morgan regarding the application and was disappointed to find that she acted the same way. Very curt, very unfriendly, coldly professional. She practically hung up on me. I didn’t think this is how a «good christian company» would treat people but what do I know? I felt very dismissed and wished I hadn’t wasted time applying in the first place. This is a new store, it just opened up some months ago. While I love Hobby Lobby and their product line I’m kind of sad to say that it looks like they did wrong with the hiring here, as I’ve not met too many friendly employees, none when trying to apply for a job. Maybe all the crusty old ladies they have working here don’t want a younger crowd coming in and forcing them into retirement. Yeah, I called you crusty. Go home and feed your cats.
