History

Established in 2012.

We’re big advocates of downtown revitalization, so when this building became available, we jumped right in! Edie has worked in restaurants-​as a waiter/​chef/​bartender-​most of her life, so opening Topisaw General as a café was an easy fit. About the name: we live on the beautiful Topisaw Creek and, since it is such a major part of our lives, have taken it as our mascot for all our businesses.

Baking artisan breads is my favorite aspect of the shop – that, and running the business with my family. David and I work together, and our 3 daughters wait tables, wash dishes, bake cookies, run the register… Having them as such a vital part of the shop has, I believe, led to its success.

We stopped in while on a road trip, and Topisaw General Store didn’t disappoint. I was looking forward to the quiche of the day, but unfortunately we didn’t get there early enough because they were sold out by the time we arrived a little after 1pm. I wound up with the chicken salad sandwich on homemade bun & small salad, and my husband had the ham & pimento cheese sandwich on house made focaccia. Both meals were fresh and delicious. The olive vinaigrette on the salad had a great flavor. The town doesn’t seem like much driving in but it’s well worth the trip for a meal at Topisaw General Store.

If you want superb food, handmade, with real and fresh ingredients, served in a quaint and artistically interesting location, made and served by some of the finest folks in the world, then Topisaw General Store is for you. The prices are also reasonable and fair. Every time we drive through or stop in Mississippi, we make a point of eating there. Whether it is quiche, pizza, soup, salads, cookies, cakes, coffee or tea, there is absolutely nothing on the menu that is not both interesting and very tastey, too. They also sell freshly baked breads and other sweets and baked goods to take home for later. Those of you who live local, regional or who are just passing through, you don’t want to miss a stop at Topisaw General. One of the best places in Mississippi, and Louisiana, too. Support this local, family-​owned and operated business!

Love their Curry Chicken Salad! It is addictive! The renovation they did on the building looks wonderful — if you get a chance, stop by and check out the back of the old building that was converted into an outdoor eating area.

We called in a to go order from the highway as we passed through town. Delicious deli size salads that filled us right up. Fresh ingredients and house made dressings. We picked up some still and sparkling water and a fresh cookie. We’re so glad we took the extra 10 minutes to enjoy the charming trip through town and support the café’s downtown revitalization efforts. Fantastic meal and it was packaged and waiting for us to go with silverware and napkins. Best idea we’ve had in at least 300 miles.

The Topisaw Grocery is the best lunch in town as far as I’m concern. Fresh tasty cuisine prepared by an excellent chef and family. My favorites are the Quiche. Soups, cornbread, baguettes, macaroons and the Peppermint Chocolate cake just to name a few… the waitstaff is caring, polite and excellent by any to compare. Whether you are in town guest or out of town guest the Topisaw Grocery is the best treat in town.

I love the atmosphere and feeling of this place! It would be great for a lunch with a friend or a cup of coffee and a book.
If you choose to sit inside it is spacious, well lit but not too bright; if you choose to sit outside you can enjoy the company of a small water fountain, vegetation, and some original brick work. Very cool.

Terrific menu and atmosphere! I live in New Orleans and this place is unique and charming by any standard but really stands out from the areas more traditional, less healthy approach to dining.
The back patio space is extremely pleasant and the food is light and adventurous– delicious!

I love this place. Great, fresh food and marvelous desserts. They do small batch so the supply may be limited though. Browse though items made by local artisans while you wait for your lunch. Soups, salads, Greek pizza and even some marinated olives and spinach/​feta pastries in the freezer for you to take home and bake! The owners are very friendly and welcoming. Sit inside and enjoy the soothing aqua light filtering through the large courtyard window or sit outside in the enchanting courtyard. I like this place! Can you tell? :)

This was a wonderful surprise in McComb. Great food, outstanding service and very reasonable prices. The location, in a renovated building in Downtown McComb is one of those places where you want to linger after the meal. In addition to great meal specials they also feature a selection of baked goods and locally made products.
