Specialties

Tour the Victorian mansion where history is fun. Called Tennessee’s Biltmore by PBS, Falcon Rest was built in 1896 by Gorilla Pants manufacturer Clay Faulkner, who promised his wife «the grandest mansion in Tennessee.» Today, the 10,000 sq. ft. mansion is filled with museum quality Victorian antiques, and some say it’s presided over by a friendly ghost.

The grounds include extensive gardens, a Victorian gift shop, a tea room, and an events facility that makes Falcon Rest an ideal venue for weddings and special events. Falcon Manor B&B is next door, offering overnight accommodations for leisure and business travelers.

Falcon Rest is is open daily year round for guided mansion tours, tea room lunches and shopping for Victorian treasures.

Interactive, history-based entertainment shows which make stars of the people in the audience, served up with delicious meals, are available for tour groups.

Halfway between Nashville and Chattanooga.

History

Established in 1993.

Clay Faulkner lived up to his 1896 promise of a grand mansion for his family, but by the 1940s it had been converted into a hospital and nursing home. The Faulkner Springs Sanitarium and Hospital was a well-loved, efficient medical facility, but their additions and alterations disguised the beauty of the mansion.

Closed in 1968, the building was boarded up and abandoned for years. A restoration begun in 1989 brought the building back to its original elegance, and its doors were opened to the public in 1993.

Popular demand led to the addition of an elegant Victorian Carriage House events facility in 1998, a Visitor’s Center in 1999 complete with a unique Victorian Gift Shop and a tea room for lunch and small events, and extensive gardens that reflect the bounty of McMinnville, «the nursery capital of the world.»

In 2001, a unique form of history based entertainment for motorcoach groups was introduced with the permiere performance of «Murder at the Mansion.»
