After finding that the recommended coffee shop was closed on Sundays(???) I wandered on and found this gem. Fresh pressed juice and healthy smoothies in Maynard center! Who knew? Delicious juice, decent coffee and friendly staff. Also looked as though musicians were setting up to play as I left.

A trip to Serendipity is a high point to any day. These people are exceptional bakers. The malty goodness of their English Muffins is miraculous. The Aztec Mocha coffee is a personal favorite. I always order it-the slightly dry Mexican chocolate has a wonderfully balanced flavor. But there’s more to Serendipity than breakfast. Salads, home made soup and sandwiches on their amazing bread make for a wonderful choice later in the day. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the ambience. Some places just have that«yes this a community meeting place» vibe. Serendipity is a classic. It’s as comfy as a friends den. Frequent live music, Wifi, chess boards, big overstuffed chairs in addition to tables that allow work to get done and a very friendly staff makes this place a true five star enterprise.

Food is good but it is very expensive. $ 8.5 for a bagel and small ice coeffe? Come on it is not downtown ny, it is Maynard. They need to cut the price by 50%

The last time I had stopped by I felt I had to write a review of my experience. First off there were 5 people working and only 2 people before my order. I waited 25 mins for my food and I didn’t even order a drink! I had a meeting which I needed to make and I was running late for. The young man behind the counter must have been very confused as to what was going on. The folks making the food had the most experience yet gave no direction to their staff which was bouncing back and forth in the front not helping them. The food was great but service needs improvement.

Great iced coffee, a delicious ham and cheese crêpe, and a chill ambiance. Really glad we stopped here on a Sunday afternoon!(Good vibe for our toddler also, and a changing table in the bathroom :)

This place is awesome. Best breakfast sandwich in town, homemade English muffins that my son is obsessed with, cinnamon buns to die for, and a yummy range of crepes(Sundays only). The coffee, iced teas and smoothies rock too. It also a great atmosphere for sitting right in the center of town, watching people go by. People come here to meet for business, just to chat, or listen to music on the weekends. Kid friendly as well with some books and games, and a little table and chairs. The owners are clearly trying their best and it’s a shame some people on here are nitpicking this Maynard gem.

I have been to Serendipities abort 5 times in the last month. This morning I ordered their Nason Mocha which is supposedly made with 2 shots of espresso plus dark and white chocolate. I also ordered two cinnamon buns. First off, this is a small café that seats about 25 people. They need to take some lessons in efficiency. The 3 order takers are constantly jostling each other to access the single register drawer and they seem to have trouble keeping the orders straight. It was a mind numbingly convoluted and slow process. Then there are another 4 or five employees in the cooking area. It looks extremely hectic and inefficient. They brought the cinnamon buns out right away but we had to wait another five minutes for the mochas. The cinnamon buns were vanishingly small, cold, and bland store-bought variety, with absolutely no character whatsoever. No one offered to warm them up. The Nason mocha was unfortunately also uninspired lacking any distinctive flavoring beyond the basic chocolate. As for the two shots of espresso, I don’t think so. For a five dollar coffee, I expect to be blown away. I will say that they are friendly and they are trying but they need to do a lot more to improve the overall quality of the items serve as well as the speed and efficiency with which they take orders and deliver the goods to the customer. The owner of this café needs to study proper customer service and they should take many field trips to other successful coffee stores to see how it’s done. Too many employees not very efficiently managed. Everyone seems to be running around frantically.

This place has a juicing machine. The coffee is better than the other place across the street. Great sandwiches, great ingredients. The owner cares about his customers and welcomes a great artistic vibe.

Came in on a Sunday morning for breakfast with the family. Service was friendly and attentive though the food took a little while to come out. Had what was probably the best bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich I’ve had in ages. The coffee was smooth and excellent(made me wish my morning commute took me past here). Crepes were a little on the pricey side, but very tasty and stuffed with plenty of fillings which made them feel worth the price premium. Concerns? A few more breakfast options wouldn’t hurt. The live music on that day was a little on the loud side given the small space. And the fruit and yogurt smoothies could use a little more fruit(we had a couple and they we’re pretty bland). But overall, one of the best places in the area for a weekend breakfast. Will definitely be back!

I love the food here. And the atmosphere. However, the place is always extremely cold in the winter. Out of curiosity, I checked the thermostat on a very cold day(1÷19÷2016) and it was set to 58. I felt like Bob Cratchit, needing«a bit more coal in the fire.»

This is an update on my previous review. Over the years, this place has grown into my favorite destination coffee and lunch spot. Consistently top-quality food and beverage are terrific… Maybe even more important is how absolutely fabulous the staff is here. A locally owned business that employs local people — and serves terrific real food? Sign me up! For breakfast, their breakfast sandwich cannot be beat. I’m also a huge fan of their home cooked oatmeal with cranberries. For lunch, I love the combination of a half sandwich and side salad. See you at ‘Dippity!

Serendipity café is what local, family owned business is supposed to be. It’s real, honest, quirky in the right ways, and refreshing. Those of us who have been with the business from the beginning have seen it evolve, from its first, crazy opening day when the staff got their baptism by fire, through a change in ownership, equipment challenges, etc. But through it all, the owners’ commitment to the town, and to their long held and hard won dream of diving into food service, permeates every bite of every pastry and every sip of every smoothie. I cannot recommend this place more highly.

I’m a regular. And have been happy with consistent quality of food and service. The new coffee roaster is an awesome choice. Fresh baked breads and cinnamon rolls never disappoint. Knowing that the owners care about the sources of the food products makes it even better. This is exactly what Maynard needs: a great relaxing coffee house environment with consistent, quality offerings. There’s nothing like it in the surrounding towns.

I’m going to give this place 4 stars because I can see potential. I have some constructive criticism to offer. Take these seriously and your café will turn out great. 1st. If I am going to be served food, why must I bus it back to a deposit area. This café has far too many workers to not bus tables. Also, why is the plate deposit area next to the seating area? As a customer do I really want to sit next to a smelly bus box that has flies around it? This should be in the back of the building furthest away from customers. 2nd. All menus should be front and center for customers to see. I walked in there today and only found beverage menus posted at the service counter, good thing the staff offered me the menu. Also, please don’t make the excuse that you have one posted online. Customers can be very forgetful and should be reminded of the products you offer. Front and center at the service counter. Also further organize the menus more so that customers can fully understand what they are ordering, smoothie or non smoothie categories with prices. 3rd. Why is there so many 6 person tables? This is a café, not a high school lunch room. As a customer, do I really want to sit next to a STRANGER? Who may possibly smell? Spread those tables out, you should only have tables seating 2 – 4 people. 4th. I’m sure this person was new today, but I’m going to yell at her anyway. As a customer, do you think I really give a crap about your feelings? Speak up. Smile. And take my damn order. There is no need to cower when taking an order from a customer. Customers simply want their food or coffee and be on their way. That goes for the rest of the staff who I didn’t have an interaction with. Lasting thoughts. Put sugar packets on the tables. This is not a Starbucks, I want to sit and have my coffee without exhausting myself to get up and retrieve sugar and a spoon. Speaking of spoons. 99.9% of cafés serve their cappuccino with spoons. You are no different. Get with the program and provide spoons with coffee products or place stirrers on every table. Follow these simple suggestions and it will better your business automatically. I like this place. But I want to like it more. Customer satisfaction is the key to success.

I really would love to give this 5 stars but the pricing and devolving menu make it impossible. The staff have always been kind and curious. I have no complaints about the food. I adore the honey and banana crepes but I was devastated when they removed them from the regular menu and made the available only on Sunday’s. My husband always seems pleased with the food and coffee but it’s hard to get much more than«it’s okay» from him. I first fell in love with the Hobson’s at the Maynard farmers market and loved their cinnamon buns.

So much potential… a near perfect spot, nice menu… but there is too much confusion. Every time we have been they are out of ingredients and the staff seem to not quite be sure what they are doing. Hope they figure it out.

I really WANT to like this place more, I really do! We moved to Maynard shortly before the café that was there closed and we loved it, everything was so good! But that place got terrible reviews, oddly enough. We even went to the opening and that was really a sign of things to come. Tons of staff, but they were doing everything in a really backwards way — we could immediately tell how they could be more efficient. The food is meh, very unimaginative and not comparable at all to the place that was there before, even though they bought the place from the guy. Baked goods are always dry. Coffee is good, though. In some ways I think they’re really trying — they have music and other events often, but they have changed nothing about the food. They have actually limited it more — removing things from the menu and only do crepes on Sundays. I would get a crêpe there once a week if they were anything more than fruit+ butter or fruit+ nutella. Again, the place before had these amazing concoctions. I would happily pay $ 9 for a crêpe if there were more to it!

My wife did some form of pottery and wine night across the street a few weeks back, and somebody suggested they make their own english muffins that are supposedly amazing… so we were back in the area to pick up said pottery and stopped in for breakfast… They did not have a lot of hot breakfast choices. A lot of pastries and the likes. I got a smoothie and yogurt/fruit plate for my son, two coffees(ice for me and hot for my wife) and two bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches on… that’s right, their homemade english muffins. The smoothie had good flavor and consistency and my son liked it. The coffee was very good, but 16oz was in a mason jar type glass with excessive ice(prob ended up being closer to 10oz of actual coffee) the egg sandwich was very good, fresh and hot, but a little light on the bacon. And the english muffins were, english muffins?! Sorry, they were better than a store bought kind, but I’m not an english muffin ‘snood’ or fanatic so it was hard for me to get overly excited about bread. I would probably given this place 4 stars if it wasn’t so expensive. Breakfast was WAY to much for what we ordered. Then, after we paid, I placed another order for a single fried egg for my 9 month old twins to share. the staff(who was very friendly and courteous) had to consult with somebody(owner? manager?) in order to ring it up. Well, it ended up costing just about $ 2.15 for a single fried egg! Come on, that’s roughly a dollar short of the cost of a DOZENORGANIC eggs, I know part of eating out is paying for convenience, but that price its just silly.

They used to have crepes everyday now they only have them on Sundays. They used to have a wide variety of breakfast food now it’s just a choice between a breakfast sandwich and steel cut oats. That being said the coffee is really top notch. I go here for an amazing cup of coffee but that’s about it. This used to my favorite place but after management took over I don’t go nearly as often :(
