Unquestionably the worst customer service experience I have ever had. My external hard drive with about 500GB of data on it crashed. I know my way around computers and I could tell that the internal power source failed and that the disk was not malfunctioning, so it shouldn’t be difficult to recover the data. MicroCenter convinced me to allow them to ship my drive out to DataTech to recover all of my files. I did so and here’s what happened: After initially looking at my drive, DataTech called and told me:(1) My drive looked liked a routine fix, just as I had thought,(2) All data should be recoverable,(3) The recovery process would take less than a week, and(4) It would cost $ 1,000. Here’s what really happened:(1) They had my drive for FOUR months,(2) They recovered 0% of the data on my drive(!!!),(3) It cost $ 1,700, not $ 1,000,(4) Throughout this long process there was nothing but misinformation and excuses communicated to me, and that was only when they actually responded to my phone calls and emails, which was not often. But wait, here’s the kicker: Their data recovery process actually further damaged my drive even MORE and corrupted files that were not previously damaged. The rep on the phone actually told me this(I’m pretty sure on accident — it sounded like it just slipped out), and another data recovery service I later took my drive to also confirmed this. So 4 months and $ 1,700 later, DataTech actually returned my drive in WORSE condition that it was when they received it. They salvaged 0% of my files. They finally agreed to refund my money and they seemed very proud of themselves for doing this. Gee, thanks for not charging me $ 1,700 to break my hard drive even more! I gave DataTech 1 star only because 0 stars was not an option. Do yourself a favor and don’t ever use DataTech.
