During our family vacation in Maui, we arranged to have a photography session with Barry to get an updated family picture. The session was wonderful. He was punctual, professional and flexible. We provided a list of images and I am very please with results. I would highly recommend Barry to anyone who is interested in having professional photos taken while on vacation.

If you want the best, you want Barry Frankel of Island Fresh Photography. His photos are exceptionally beautiful. What’s really great about Barry is how he takes into consideration all aspects of each shot — lighting, angle, background objects, shadowing, etc… all of these things are so important and can mean the difference between getting gorgeous, stunning wedding photos, or just meh photos. The last thing you want to see in your wedding photos are shadowy faces, washed out colors, or some unknown bystander in the background, and I’ve had that happen with other event photographers. I was super happy knowing that Barry was always looking at the whole picture, as well as the closeup details with every shot. There is a surprising amount of technical know-​how that goes into wedding photography, but that’s just part of what makes Barry’s work so fantastic. The other part is having an artistic eye for a great photo, which Barry definitely has. And even if you’re camera shy or if you NEVER take good photos (like me), Barry will get a great photo out of you and you’ll be amazed! Some people couldn’t care less about the quality of their wedding photos, but if you’re the type that wants stunning, magical photos and to be able to look back in 10 years and be amazed at your gorgeous wedding, then you want Barry Frankel to photograph it.

Mixed Review for Island Fresh Photography
The Positives: We had to reschedule our wedding twice, and Barry was very accomodating and flexible, which helped to relieve a lot of stress. Barry’s assistant Sue was a huge help in helping to operate our video camera, which we had set up on a tripod. By panning and zooming a few times, she really helped make our video more interesting.
Our wedding was very informal — when Barry and Sue showed up, they immediately helped to get the ceremony organized so that it would look on camera. Big points here!
Not-​So-​Positives: There was no formal contract, just an over-​the-​phone agreement. This ended up causing confusion about what we were getting and exactly how much it would cost. Barry said that delivering the original images, would be «no problem». It was never stated that this would be an additional $ 150 charge, as we would find out later.
We were supposed to receive 35 – 40 high quality, retouched (photoshop’d) images. Barry provided a link to website from which we could select those photos to choose from (for retouching). Unfortunately, that website was HUGE headache and made the process incredibly slow and confusing. Barry’s response was that «I’ve never had any clients complain about it». Not very helpful.
The retouched photos that Barry delivered were not retouched to our satisfaction. We felt that more attention should have been paid to the editing process. At this point I asked him to send the originals. After numerous calls and emails, we eventually we got all of the original (jpegs), which we were able to retouch ourselves, but it cost $ 150, and a lot of time and stress.
In sum: what Barry lacks in organization is offset somewhat by his flexibility and his amazing assistant, Sue. The photos we ended up with are decent. If we had to do it again though, we would look somewhere else.
