Matthews Playhouse is a community based non profit theatre committed to enriching the lives of children, adults, and families by inviting them to perform in the world of the performing arts and education.
We offer productions geared towards children, families, and adults. Our season consists of a Mainstage series, as well as «school of theatre» productions that display performances by young people in our classes. Matthews Playhouse is also home to year long drama classes and summer camps for children and teens.

History
Established in 1995.
Matthews Playhouse began with the idea to create a theatre for children in the Matthews area. The original board of directors consisted of parents, theatre professionals, and educators that wanted to create a venue for young people to perform in and view quality theatre. Since 1995, the Playhouse has grown from 2 productions during the school year and 1 production class, to a community theatre with a full season of plays and musicals, and a series of classes. In 2002, the Playhouse began offering full length productions for adults and families, and now has a Mainstage season of shows featuring actors of all ages from around the region — with full length and hour long productions that are individually geared towards young people, families, and adults.
