The Inn at Abbott Farm is a unique Farm — to — Table Inn nestled within the stunning Lost River Valley of Mathias, West Virginia. Organic and Free-​Range; we produce & grow our own chickens, ducks, pigs, turkeys, eggs, vegetables, jams & jellies, sausage, bacon, ham and fruits. Your stay with us will be a delicious and peaceful respite from the chaos that life can often bring.

We Offer 2 stunning rooms in the main house and a private, fully furnished cottage on the grounds. Our eclectic design style features a fascinating art collection; while always maintaining the integrity of our historic 150 year old home. Sit by our creek or in the wildflower garden, collect eggs for breakfast, hike in the George Washington National Forest or the Lost River State Park, swim, rest, take a yoga class, have a massage, shop or, perhaps best, do nothing at all — Whatever you decide we guarantee you’ll leave here feeling refreshed and recharged.

History

Established in 2014.

The Inn at Abbott Farm is owned by Lisa O’Leary & Robert Osterhoudt. Our historic home was built in the late 1800’s by the local Doctor, Frank Moyers. Dr. Moyers’ original office has been restored into a fabulous creekside cottage. The main house is a masterful display of the finest carpentry and woodworking skills that money could buy at that time. Floors, walls and ceilings are all tongue and groove fir. The grand, curved staircase is solid oak.

Our home was purchased by Frank Harvey Abbott in the 1950’s. Coincidentally (or maybe not :) Lisa’s maiden name was Lisa Abbott… we took it as a sign that we were meant to be here.

We had always wanted a self-​sufficient farm and fell into the Innkeeping business when we realized the beauty and layout of our home coupled with the stunning beauty of the Lost River Valley. Hence, we are now proud and happy B & B owners.

We are Bob & Lisa and we own the Inn at Abbott Farm. Our Inn offers farm-​to-​table dining in Mathias, WV; located within the heart of the Lost River Valley.

Our small farm produces organic & free-​range chickens, eggs, pigs, fruits and vegetables. We also make our own bacon and sausage.

The Inn offers 2 luxury rooms with private baths in the main house and a delightful, fully furnished cottage named The Doctors Office.

Decorated with an eclectic style and incredible art collection, our home is a visual masterpiece with a warm ambiance and delicious food.

My wife & I wanted to break up our trip from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC with an overnight stay in West Virginia. We were looking for a unique B&B experience and we found it at The Inn at Abbott Farm.
Upon our arrival we were greeted by Sidney, the most mild mannered well behaved dog you’ll ever meet & the owner, Bob. We had a bit of a scare when we saw a surprised look on Bob’s face when we pulled up. A slight miscommunication had him thinking we were checking in the next day. But luckily there was a room available for us and we all had a good laugh at the situation. Bob swiftly prepared our accommodations as we went off to dinner at the only restaurant in town.
After some seriously good comfort food from the Lost River Grill down the road we went back to the Farm. Bob took us to our room, the «Charles Donald;» we later learned it was named after the owners’ fathers. The room was cozy and clean with excellent space heaters. The Bathroom was a definite highlight of the «Charles Donald.» It featured a very modern sink with two faucets, bidet and a HUGE walk in shower with a pebble stone floor and walls.
The rest of the evening we enjoyed some wine and relaxed in the living room by their Christmas tree and corn stove while Bob shared stories of how he and his wife, Lisa, transformed the Inn at Abbott Farm into a beautiful B&B in just one year.
Breakfast the next morning was incredible. Nothing beats farm fresh eggs. The bacon and sausage were out of this world too.
After breakfast Bob took us on a great tour of their four acre property and along the way we got to meet the other residents including Petunia, their pet Turkey who has trouble with turkey husbands (have Bob tell you the story of Petunia’s lovers). We also met the farms chickens and thanked them for breakfast.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay at The Inn at Abbott Farm. Bob was a perfect host. We were sorry we didn’t get the chance to meet his wife Lisa, she was away that week. However, we communicated with her quite a bit through email and she was very responsive & professional to work with.
If you’re a fan of the complete «farm to table» experience then book a stay here now!
A few things to consider when booking your stay.
1.) You must be comfortable with animals. As you can guess, farm living brings its share of four legged & two legged friends. But I guess if you’re already looking at staying here you’re cool with animals.
2.) If you have AT&T as your cell phone carrier you will probably not have service. Our iPhones didn’t during our stay. The house does have great WiFi so you can always take advantage of a free Internet phone service or iMessage.
3.) Dining and shopping options very limited. Lost River Grill is really you’re only dining option. But it’s a nice warm, friendly place with great food.
4.) Great location if you are planning to explore Lost River State Park

What a great trip and stay at Abbott Farm !
House and cottage are beautifully restored.
Our 3 year old picked fresh eggs, played with chickens and turkeys on the farm. Lost river state park is next door, so we did great hikes with our kids looking at the change of seasons.
Bob and Lisa were great hosts. They hosted breakfast and late afternoon wine/​cheese with other guests. Food was straight from the farm so every thing tasted great.

My new husband and I set up a stay at the Inn at Abbott Farm for his in-​laws since we were having our wedding just down the street. They could not stop raving about it!!! The owners are lovely and answered all my e-​mails immediately. They were very accommodating to our needs and even offered up their inn for our ceremony use in case of rain. All I heard the entire weekend are how sweet they are, how amazing the food is, how gorgeous the rooms are, and the amazing decorations. They showed me multiple photos and it all looked amazing. I will definitely recommend them to everyone I know in the area.

Lisa and Bob have just opened up this lovely inn and bed and breakfast in the Lost River Valley. The buildings are super cool and there are animals that they keep too — chickens, turkeys, ducks, and pigs, as well as the house dog. They plan on raising their own animals and vegetables which will be used for the food at the Inn. There are two rooms in the main house and two guest houses on the property. Old Dr. Moyers Office is one of the guest houses — it’s worth taking a peek at if you can. I also loved the art that was up in all the rooms and guest houses. Very, very cool! Worth a stop and a stay.
