Yes the building is old. the tables are straight out of your grandma’s kitchen. the mismatched cups and tableware were from maybe the 50’s.but our breakfast was Hugh and fantastic !!! Eggs were cooked perfectly, 4 pieces of delicious bacon.(no raw end pieces) and a large serving of hashbrowns. Even though there was only one person working our breakfast came out hot and the I think the jelly for our toast was homemade. Great service and lots of interesting things displayed to look at. Paid a little more than what we usually pay for breakfast. .but it was really good. HAPPYNEWYEAR person working at The Flapjack!!! We will be back.

Had a friend tell me she liked the place. Thought we would try it. Was Looking forward to a nice greasy spoon. Well I didn’t appreciate the sticky tables and the chicken fried steak had more breeding than meat. The pancakes were good though. Nice big fluffy ones. The one killer for is was the prices. We just didn’t think that $ 4 for a breakfast sandwich was reasonable.

Hit and miss. I’ve been there and have gotten great service and food; and I’ve been there and gotten mediocre service and food. It has never been terrible, though. I adored that there were a group of old-timers playing cards and talking smack about politics nearby. That’s part of the atmosphere, and in my book, this place is about the atmosphere. I almost expect a sassy, no-bull waitress to come out and tell me what I’m getting, whether that’s what I wanted or not; and I’d be willing to bet the oldsters have some amazing stories. If you go here, keep your expectations low, and get with the grandpas. You might have fun despite the food.

I have been looking for a good greasy spoon since we moved to the area, so I have been waiting anxiously to try this place. I walked in and though«Ohhh, here we go!» It reminded me of the local greasy spoon back home — a mismatch of decorations, old vintage stuff, mismatched Formica tables, a thin layer of grease everywhere. Some of the shabbyist looking places have the best food in my experience. We start off with coffee and orange juice. Coffee .75, weak but not undrinkable. Orangle juice $ 3, and TOTALLY undrinkable. My husband described it as «spicy,» I will describe it as a mimosa minus the actual booze. Same boozey feeling in your mouth, just, ya know, because it is spoiled. Then, our food comes. My husband ordered the Lumberjack($ 9.95). His eggs looked fluffy and good. His hamburger patty on the other hand… well, it reminded me of those Salisbury steak TV dinners sans gravy. I got a ham, sausage and cheese, omelette. It was downright inedible. It was swimming in so much grease, I don’t even know how it was staying together. Inside was mostly half melted cheese, and a few pieces of ham. I don’t know if the grease was from the cheese or the stove, but either way the result was the same. I ended up eating mostly toast and hasbrowns. For $ 11.95, I could have bought at ten pound bag of hashbrowns and stayed home. I will give a star for the service. The young man that works there was very nice and on top of things. The young gal he was training was a cute little hippie chick, and I instantly liked the both of them. What I did not like was the sour, rolling stomach that stayed with me all day. Bottom line: Get a new cook, and we may come back. Until then, we will continue our quest to find our go to breakfast joint.

Found this gem of a place randomly, on a recent road trip. Fantastic! Food was delicious! Very kitchy place. Staff was really fun! Will definitely be back!

THIS place deserves no stars. We walked in and instantly felt dirty. I got the lumberjack plate and i had never experienced a hamburger patty that was chewy and felt like a dog treat but still pink in the middle, they give you enough hash browns for the whole restaurant on one plate and the eggs were orange. We also ordered drinks before we received menus and we got a large orange juice for 3 dollars and it wasn’t even 10 oz.

This place doesn’t even deserve one star! I should’ve known when I pulled up with my family because we were the ONLY customers there. Cash /check only«to keep the prices low»… But the prices weren’t low at all. The waiter brought us warm water to drink and the entire staff appeared as grungy as the style of this place. The food wasn’t very good either. My biscuits and gravy were disgusting. You could tell the biscuits were definitely not fresh! To be completely honest, even the coffee wasn’t that good.

I tried this palce three times. I use the three strikes and your out rule unless it really stinks. This place like others have said is really run down. Dilapadated would be more like it. It is obvious that the healt dept. doesnt check in there very often. My wife and I actually saw a cook drop food on the floor and said to his partner«two second rule» they put it on a plate and served whatever it was. We already had ours. This was the last time I have been there and wont be back again.

Just like I recall 30 years ago, nothing has changed. Great Home Style cooking with a kookie old retro style. tables don’t match, coffee cups are like the ones out of your own cupboard. All of this adds to the experience like your sitting at your grandma’s old kitchen table eating breakfast. If your looking for a great Home Cooked Breakfast this is the place to go.

I tried this place today based on the other Unilocal reviews, and I have to say I was disgusted and disappointed. The entire restaurant is filthy — dust, dirt, grime, and grease from the floors to the tables and chairs, to the decorations. It seriously appeared as if the place had not been thoroughly cleaned in years, if not decades. I couldn’t even touch the table or seats without sticking to them. The service was very slow(even when they weren’t busy.) The food was nothing special, but the portions were generous. I can’t quite accurately describe the level of filth, it was like I was eating in a barn, or in someone’s attic. My guy feeling when I walked in was to turn around and leave, but I wanted to give the food and service a shot. I should have followed my first instinct.

Wow this place is awesome. Ok the décor is early mix and match no two tables or chairs are the same the floor is bare wood. But the Food and that is what you go there for anyhow is Great. The pancakes are as big as the plate and they are the best ever. I recommend the Trapper. Don’t bring you American express or bank card they keep prices low by taking cash only. They usually close early so get there not later than 10AM but for a good all American breakfast. It is worth it!!!

I just found my new favorite breakfast joint in Marysville! I’ve seen the sign on 4th St probably 1,000 times advertising«Best Darn Breakfast In Town» so we had to give it a try when our normal spot was randomly closed. I will admit, I was hesitant when I saw the building that housed the Flapjack. A little old, a little dumpy and not at all like a restaurant. We walked in and was a little shocked by the cafeteria like set up and the random unmatching furniture but we were hungry and wanted to give it a try. We sat ourselves at a big comfy(but slightly broken booth) and were promptly greeted by a nice waitress. As I looked over the menu I slowly realized that everything was super, super cheap and it all sounded really good! They had marionberry, applesauce, banana and chocolate chip pancakes for about $ 2 bucks each. I opted for the applesauce pancake and when it came out, it barely fit on a large plate and let me tell you… it was really freaking good! I loved the random old fashioned items hanging on the wall, the mismatched silverware and coffee mugs but what I really like about the Flapjack is their delicious and large servings of food! We will be back on Saturday!

My son and I used to go to Flapjacks alot when we were living in Marysville 8 – 10 years ago. The one thing that I remembered most was the awesome bacon that they had back then and the wonderful food. We decided to go today and our experience was sub par. The waiter(a young man 18or 19) was great, I have no issues with him. The place is a total wreck. I think that the mismatched tables, chairs, mugs and silverware is pretty neat. It’s not that which turned me off. It’s just filthy in there. The floor was messy, the walls are still stained with cig. smoke,(How long has it been since one could smoke inside legally?) the tables are sticky, they serve only Shasta soda, and most of all the food was terrible. My English muffin was given to me burnt– I mean, black. The eggs were cold, and my hash browns were not only cold, but they were crunchy because they were still raw and my sons chicken fried steak looked like a burnt hockey puck with watery gravy on it. All is all it was a bad experience. I did give a tip, but I made sure to hand it to the waiter, and not put it on the«tip the cook» jar. A few buckets of paint, and a little cleaning would make things SO much nicer. And perhaps a trained cook. We won’t go back.

I would have to say that the layout and décor of the restaurant is very unique. The tables were extremely close together which made my visit quite uncomfortable. Our table and coffee mugs were dirty, but the wait staff was quick to correct the issue. Oh the other hand the pancakes and hash browns were very good. I would recommend ordering takeout, but I would probably never eat in the restaurant again.

I was looking for something different and affordable for lunch today, and my co-worker and I spied The Flapjack not far from work. I’m not a big fan of chains or fast food, and like a place with some character. If nothing else, you certainly can say The Flapjack has character. A restaurant since the early 1970s, it was formerly tied to the lumber industry, and certainly feels like place lumberjacks would gather to eat. There are dozens of tables, of a mixed up variety, including a huge leather booth in the corner donated by a family of snowbirds as part of their downsizing process. There is a paperback exchange, three pianos, a community bulletin board and historic artifacts(and flyers) that clearly were not bought for historical whimsy, but rather just ended up here. A large cage holds a disappointingly faux parrot. Nothing matches, and no one cares. Due to the recession, they have stopped serving lunch food on weekdays, but are serving breakfast until late morning. I had a Jr. Chop — the porkchop breakfast with just one chop and egg, and was quite satisfied. Nothing fancy here, but plenty of character. I love it, and will definitely be back regularly.
