Description

Specialties

We serve as the only shelter for homeless families in Morgan County, Indiana. We specialize in moving homeless families toward self-sufficiency.

History

Established in 1988.

In 1988, six churches saw a basic need to help homeless families with children to have a better life. They founded the Community Service Center of Morgan County, Inc. the agency started by providing emergency shelter to families in need. In 1996, the agency began offering transitional housing. Between emergency shelter and transitional housing, 24 families may be assisted at any one time. However, much more is provided than simple housing. Each family works with a staff member to draft and implement an individual success plan centered around the 7 Dimensions of Wellness– social, emotional, spiritual, environmental, occupational, intellectual, and physical. Family members meet regularly with staff and outside service providers to work through barriers to self-sufficiency, while making progress toward their individual goals in each dimension of wellness. Additionally, residents have access to an in-house food pantry, laundry detergent with free machines, clothing, and a computer lab.
