Laura has thirty years’ experience teaching and draws from an extensive background in many disciplines. Her love is jumpers, although she still teaches intermediate to advanced hunters and English equitation.
Steve teaches the beginners, both children and adults. He has the patience to help them learn the basics and progress to the next level.
They are also very successful at matching horses and riders (to ensure a lasting partnership) and at improving a rider’s relationship with his/her horse.
For kids there are summer camps (and holiday camps!), apprenticeship programs, riding lessons and opportunities to compete. School horses are available for all ages and abilities.
Laura is also a registered vet tech and works for a couple of area veterinarians. She is experienced with various pieces of theraputic equipment and techniques, and offers rehabilitation and layups.
History
Established in 1990.
Laura and Steve have operated as Rancho Saguaro since November of 2005. From 2001 to 2005, while building their current facility, they operated out of a large stables in Castro Valley, which they shared with several other trainers. Prior to this, they taught and trained at local stables in Lafayette and San Ramon. They have also been running kids’ horse camps for 20 years.

Business Owner
Laura’s main focus is training hunters and jumpers and retraining racehorses for other purposes. She draws from an extensive background in all aspects of the horse industry, both prior to and during her thirty plus years as a professional trainer. Her experience includes English, western pleasure and gymkana, polo, three-day eventing, livestock handling and racehorse management. She also teaches advanced equitation and jumping.
Laura’s husband and partner, Steve, teaches beginners and serves as barn manager. Together they have a combined 50 years teaching experience.
