Navlet’s Garden Centers

I go to Navlets for most of my gardening needs. I’ve always like the quality of their annuals/​perennials. The staff is also friendly.
However, today was very disappointing. My roommate and I were looking for some Fall plants, and we’re very disappointed with the shape of the selections. Many of the pansies, mums, etc were very straggly, and needed a lot of attention. Many flowers in the jumbo packs had several dead blooms that just needed to be clipped.
Hopefully, next time I go there, it will different, if not, I’ll go elsewhere, as I refuse to pay more, and get less.

I love gardening! In addition to the annual vegetable garden we have been adding fruit trees and other beautification to the yard. The staff at Navlet’s is super helpful with a great deal of knowledge. We discussed fruit trees and what does well in our area. How chill hours impact the quality and yield of the harvest. They offered up what type of soil amendments we need to do to ensure a successful planting. These are not the type of questions and answers that you can have with someone at the box store. Even the conversations with OSH have been lacking a grower’s insight.
What did I learn today? A limequat is a Mexican lime and kumquat hybrid that tastes like a lime, but you eat the whole thing!

Kind of pricey but they have a very good selection of fruit trees and berries plants. Excellent customer service as well.

I love this place. Staff are extremely helpful in plant selection. I mostly buy their home blend compost and vegetable plants and am impressed across the board. Great place!

Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service here today, there were girls at the front and they were all standing around talking and the place was pretty dead. It really is sad how bad customer service here is. I was so disappointed I walked out without making a purchase. I will not go back! And will tell everyone else as well. Sad…

Both the Pleasant Hill and Martinez Navlet’s are great, but for my vegetable planting this season, the Martinez Navlet’s had the better selection of heirloom tomatoes. The staff are very helpful, and I appreciate that they source plants that have a fighting chance in my native soil and climate. I don’t have a great green thumb, so any attempts to baby unsuitable plants aren’t likely to succeed. Navlet’s saves me from thinking I can make the poor things work!

I love this place! It has a good selection of heirloom plants to make it easier to get that heirloom garden going. The plants in general are good quality and look healthy. I’ve been here several times to stock up on my seasonal veggies for the garden and they always have a much better selection than any of the big box stores.

I had to stop going for a few weeks… because i was there Saturday and Sunday… of every weekend… they knew my face, my name… i had to try to disguise myself so it didn’t look like what it was — an addict.
Everyone there is SO knowledgeable, helpful, sincere… Jerry (Gerry?) has given me such great advice which has led to many successful additions to my new yard. I walk away more knowledgeable, more of a plant lover and more… broke (er?). Ha!
The prices are a bit higher, but the quality of the plants, the service and knowing that i’m contributing to a local business are benefits that make the extra cost vs. somewhere like Home Depot worth it to me. I’ll still go to HD for ceramic pots because they really have great pieces that are reasonable, but for all my plants, much of my soil and garden info, it’s all Navlets.

Great place … I was amazed by their choice of veggie plants … the salesman was very careful to give us all the advises we needed and even more … and they were not pushy to sell us things !! The prices are very ok … cheap as home depot … but better quality !
I will definitely be back often !

Everyone here knows their stuff. It’s not very busy on the weekends, and their plants and flowers, while more expensive, are just better quality. Which means you won’t be irritated when you spend all day Sunday digging and sweating only to have the poor thing croak a few months later.

PLEASE bring back your Christmas Tree lot! We got our trees from you for years but for the past two years we’ve had to travel farther to the Contra Costa location. We would love to bring our business back to your location if you would bring Xmas trees back!

The staff there is so well trained and knowledgeable and if they don’t have an answer they don’t BS you, they find someone who can answer your question. I really appreciate that.
The selection is great and their kitschy indoor/​outdoor/​bird feeder/​ornamental ceramic mushroom/​gnome section is adorable!
Prices are a bit higher for some items than say Home Depot or OSH, but I am totally willing to pay.
I went one day when the power went out and they were still able to ring up my transaction. What service!
They’ve got a good thing going and I love this location.

I always get good service on the phone. I bought a Queen Elizabeth rose here, she was beautiful but had some white mildew on the leaves. Their rose selection is amazing but they keep their roses too close together creating poor air circulation and therefore is a good environment for mildew.
This Navlet does have many nice indoor plants and nice containers for reasonable prices. I also took a rose care and pruning class today– a 1.5 hour free class and afterward received a 20 percent coupon for same day use. The manager was quite nice and watched the class with us and answered all my questions. Clean bathroom too.
I also like the Pleasant Hill Navelet’s and got a beautiful Fragrant Cloud rose from them today. :)

I have no idea why I have never Unilocaled Navlet’s in Martinez before. I really should have!
They are great, helpful, so knowledgeable and if they do not have what you are looking for they will find it and order it!
They have a fantastic selection! I am there almost every weekend in the summer. I buy all my veggies from them. All of our trees, fruit trees (minus one) and almost all of our plants have come from here.
They have even helped diagnose my plant issues.
They also have this amazing soil conditioner/​compost – Harvest Blend. It is simply the best compost short of home made on earth!

I was disappointed when I came here. I would much rather drive to Navlet’s in Pleasant Hill.
The staff was helpful enough, but when you don’t have the things I’m looking for, and I had to go to Walmart, because they have the things I’m looking for. That’s kind of a bad sign.
I was starting my garden in January and needed to buy some seed pods and trays to start my seedlings. They had the teeny, tiniest, trays that I have ever seen. I usually grow about 8 different veggies, 4 different herbs, with about 30 total plants growing.
They didn’t have it. I was bummed out so I went elsewhere. I also signed up for their mailing list and haven’t received anything. I guess I’ll just keep going to Pleasant Hill.

Helpful staff and pretty much everything you need. If you’re looking for orchids go to the Pleasant Hill location. There are lots of different fountains mixed into the plants (you can buy) which makes shopping a nice, peaceful experience.

I have been here several times and have always found the staff to be very knowledgeable and the selection to be very good. Their plants are well marked, and the nursery is well laid out for things that you would want to look for.
Just recently my boyfriend and I went here to pick all of the plants for a new front yard planter area. We knew measurements and even had a photo from two directions to show the person working there and ask for advice. We had an idea of several plants but were not sure what would really work in the area and how many we should get. Thank goodness we didnt just buy on our own and not talk to anyone, we would have had a very naked looking, drab planter box all winter and then some life in spring and more in summer. So, we talked to Jerry (I think his name is). He looked closely at the picture and started walking us around grabbing plants (making sure of course that we liked them along the way). We then measured out a section of the walkway that matched the planter and began layouts, plant changes, etc. About 30 minutes later we walked out with a truck full of plants. We had the planter done that night and just love it. It looks great. Lots of hard work but worth it. Thanks to Jerry. I will admit that the prices are more than you would spend at one of the hardware stores, but you are paying for good quality plants, excellent knowledgeable staff, and the convenience of finding all the plants you want in one place. Home depot did not have a good selection of the things we thought we wanted and so we ended up here. Thank goodness.
