Downtown Nails

Terrible first time customer experience.
My wedding anniversary is in 4 days and my husband and i are going on a trip out of state. I would like to look my best for this celebration trip and so i decided to get myself a mani pedi. I am new to this area and saw a listing for this business on Unilocal.After reading the three five star reviews i decided to give them a call. I spoke with Liz and requested an appointment for a week later. I was told Wednesday at 3:30 would work.
So a week goes by and i show up to my appointment. First off the shop is filthy and there was nobody there to greet customers. There was a curtain separating the middle of the room and i could hear voices. Finally someone said «hello?» I asked for Liz and was told she would be next store sewing. So i mosey on over to their sewing shop and say «Liz» to which i’m greeted with a «yes?» Again, not the greeting i would expect from the owner of a consumer run business. I said «I have an appointment today for a mani pedi» She says «oh I didn’t put you on the books, hold on i’ll be right over» So I went back to the filthy shop and sat on the filthy seat. Liz rolled into the «spa» about 5 minutes later. She asked, «what were you looking to do» I said «Mani pedi, will you be able to do that? She said «Did we discuss this» I said «yes a week ago» She said «I only have an hour, so no» I said «okay, well I’ll be going down the street» At which point i walked out.
I was able to get an appointment same day, an hour later, 3 blocks down the street. I would think that as a business owner you would want to encourage new clientele, not send them down the street.
I understand being busy, I myself am not a housewife and had to adjust my work schedule to fit in this appointment. I don’t appreciate being treated as though my time is less important when i’m trying to give you money.
I have never been into a business that is so poorly run and so highly regarded. Obviously i can’t speak to the quality of work Liz does because I didn’t experience it.
I would never recommend this place and will absolutely never give this woman my money.

I stopped using acrylics on my nails some time ago, and was neglecting my nails completely while caring for my mother during her days in hospice. I tried the Gelish gel nail polish at a salon close to my home, but disliked the way my nails were so sore after the scraping of polish removal.
I was running errands in Martinez, and decided to give Gelish one more try at Downtown Nails. The initial manicure was gentle, relaxing, and enjoyable. I have some specific color needs due to work, but Liz was able to take care of my request. I scheduled my next manicure, and went happily on my way.
Then the moment of truth came: the polish change. What a difference from my previous experience! Liz took the time to soak the polish properly, and the removal was quick and easy. Now my nails are in great shape, and I even had a complete stranger compliment me on my nails!
I don’t hesitate now in driving from Walnut Creek to Martinez to see Liz — the results are worth it!

The best kept secret in Martinez. Liz takes pride of h work and she really makes sure that the outcome is great! She is very creative and really knows her color combo. Huge color selection. Street parking. She is a hot property and you have to schedule in advance.

Liz is a little diamond in that which is the po-​dunkness of Martinez. She outfitted me with the best set of acrylics I ever had.
She does all the filing WITHOUT the dremmel drill, and my nail beds thank her for it.
They cam out thin and natural looking. Superb job by a true artist
