Rexhame Beach

Having lived in town my whole life maybe I’m just used to it. Super rocky, green heads and ice cold water but as mentioned, dog friendly and that’s the main thing that I come here for. Although it’s very frustrating when it’s clearly stated that Marshfield has a leash law and people don’t obey it. My dog is very friendly but if there’s a leash law in place, you follow it. It kills me to see one person with 2 – 4 dogs off leash! Come on. Dogs are pack animals and a situation can get ugly when multiple are off leash and my one dog is on a leash. She’s gotten jumped before because of it so I just pick her up if idiots don’t have their dogs on a leash. Wish this rule would be enforced more at Rexhame but luckily there are many that do leash their dogs and are respectful to fellow dog walkers.

Anyways, Rexhame Beach was my pick for a beach day with friends because of their dog friendliness. (As an aside to dog owners, during my research I found very few beaches in MA that allowed dogs during the «on» season, but you only need one right?) With my friends on board we adventured South!
The actual beach was a little bit of a hike to get to with a couple twists and turns on the way. Along with spotty cell reception, I would highly recommend getting an idea where you are going before heading out. Once we found the place, parking was straightforward and $ 20. Pretty standard price-​wise for most beaches. From the lot, the beach is on the other side of some sand dunes, so bringing all the gear was easy enough.
In terms of additional amenities, Rexhame has port-​a-​potties and a snack area. Both were acceptable. Overall, I would say if you have a furry friend that you want to bring along for a beach day this is a great choice. Otherwise, there maybe other beaches that would be better suited.

If I had a dog then I would add another star for allowing to me bring a pet on leash, otherwise you’d have to continue further south. Rexhame Beach is a nice mid-​size beach, definitely geared toward for community and locals who are within walking distance with a $ 20 non-​resident parking price and not within public transportation, it keeps the beach area fairly uncrowded. Facilities are okay, with a snack stand, changing rooms, and port-​a-​potties. Sand is soft, but there are some good-​sized rocks you may need to move around before setting your blanket down. Also rocks to contend with when getting into the water. AND the cold water currents from the North provide such a refreshing (i.e. numbing) feeling, although my friend swam in it for 10 – 15 minutes (she’s from Maine). There are greenheads, but with the coastal breeze not numerous. A good spot if you’re looking for a relaxing time at the beach.

Favorite beach on the south Shore! It has everything you need, a snack bar, lifeguards, Porta potty, and a basketball court for the kiddies. I can see why this is a great place to bring families.
College and post grad students are started to frequent this place because even when the parking lot is full, you can still walk down for plenty of space. No one bothers you. You can even take a walk to hummarock!
Docking this one star because the price of parking for non-​Marshfield residents keeps going up and $ 20 is real steep for parking on the weekend especially when it’s not even crowded. Might have to start going somewhere else =(

This beach is horrible. The water is cold as ice, if you can traverse all the rocks without slipping and breaking your neck to get in there in the first place. There are flies, greenheads and gnats, maybe from all the seaweed. You have to park and walk about ½ mile over a hill, through the sinking sand to get to the rocky beach. Not fun! Plenty of other better spots closer to Boston.
And parking costs $ 20!

This is a great town beach! Super fun for kids of all ages, and it is family and dog friendly. Probably the most relaxing and laid back beach in Marshfield. There are plenty of rocks around high tide, so it gets hard to find a spot with big groups during heat waves, but it’s a beach, they’ll always have rocks.

Had great time at the beach with my friends over the weekend. I went on a Saturday and it was $ 15 to park, which I thought was a little steep. The sand was a little hot Between my toes, but that was nothing a dip in the ocean couldn’t cure. I do wish I checked out the food vendor because I heard the italian ice is delicious. Overall it was a great beach and I will definitely come back this summer!

I was very disappointed with the amount of garbage on the beach: cigarette butts, a tampon applicator, paper. There is a fair amount of stones, too. I did, however, like the small parking lot with bathroom and snack bar. It wasn’t crazy crowded on the sand even with the lot full. You can bring your dog if he is leashed which is phenomenal. No one allows that. From where I live, I would prefer to drive 20 mins longer and hit the Gloucester beaches with lots of sand and no garbage.

It was mid-​week when my friends and I visited… low tide and lots of fun tide pools to explore. We didn’t have to pay and I didn’t notice a lifeguard on duty. We had a nice long stroll on the beach, it was calming.

Great for lounging and walking. However, be mindful that this beach is extremely rocky.
There is a port a potty off the beach and a small snack bar.
One can pay for parking if they do not have a beach sticker.
Worth a visit…

This is a nice beach – nice but not fabulous. I’d like to give it 3.5 stars. While it does have access to a little concession stand and bathroom (as opposed to just port-​o-​potties), if you’re pregnant or have kids, it’s still quite a haul from the beach itself to the parking lot to reach these amenities. My major disappointment, however, was that the beach itself has too many rocks to be able to walk the shoreline barefoot. And that is my number one reason for going to the beach! Even in the «dune» area of the beach, which I’d seen written up as having lovely soft sand, I had to stop every couple of feet to pick pebbles and sticks out of my Teva’s.
On the upside, the dune area bordering the river was beautiful, and unlike anything I’ve seen in MA thus far. It wasn’t a traditional beach look… more like a midwestern or southern winding river scape. It’s nice to have both available for one parking fee. IMHO, it wasn’t all that conducive for treating that area like a beach though (high grass and muddy areas directly in front of the river didn’t make entering the river inviting and there are no lifeguards back there), but it was nice for a scenic stroll along the paths. Another plus… while Rexhame was very popular on the day that I went, I was impressed that it wasn’t overly crowded. By noon I could still find a spot to lay out my beach blanket. And the folks who were there were respectful of one another’s privacy. Kids were in line, no booming music, etc. Also, a police officer came by at one point to monitor the uneventful afternoon. It was clean. If I lived locally or went to the beach often, this would be a nice jaunt. But since I go rarely and drove for quite a way to get there, I’d rather fork over the $ 25 for Crane Beach or another nicer beach and have an even better experience.
A note on parking – when I got there and paid my $ 10 parking fee, I asked if I could go to lunch and come back (in and out privileges) because I wanted to guarantee that I’d get a non-​resident pass for the day, but also wanted more than the concession stand had to offer. The fellow on duty said yes and taped my pass (filled out for that day) to the inside of my windshield. When I returned an hour later, he was no longer on duty and I noticed there was a sign posted specifically stating something about no admittance with taped passes. The lady on duty at that time let me in anyways, but you should be aware of this in case you’re planning to go out for lunch too.

$ 15 bucks gets us non Marshfield residents onto Rexhame Beach on the weekends. Be sure to get there early and bring your SPF 45 and patience b/​c the parking lot is bloody hell on earth. You could end up waiting in line for a while to park, but the line does move. Best part about Rexhame is that it’s dog friendly. Keep Fido on a leash and pick up his poop to obey the town laws but Fido will certainly not mind being there. The crowd here is mellow, the sand is soft, the water typically warm in July and August and there are plenty of amenities like a concession stand, bathrooms, trash barrels, seagulls, hermit crabs, seaweed, sand for your tuna sandwich and of course (if you’re lucky) sunburns to be.

They still haven’t added a baby changing station in the bathroom…

Been here a couple times and it is a great sandy beach. This past week however, due to the Nor’easter the previous week, the entire beach was covered in large rocks, so at high tide (2PM), there was no beach area-​a little hard for chairs. It was also very rocky walking into the water for the first 30 feet, which when waves are crashing on you, is quite painful. Don’t take this too negatively, as hopefully over the winter the beach will get sorted out. I was a little disappointed this year.

This is my favorite local beach. It lost one star for the RIDICULOUS cost of $ 15 bucks to park.
However I still go because the beach is never crowded, the water is always clean and there aren’t a lot of radio blaring, beer drinking, frat boys throwing footballs knocking over my drinks and snacks.
At some point in the summer the marsh flies show up and try to eat your skin, I can never remember what month they come out but try to avoid that, it’s not pleasant. I went in July and only saw one fly the whole time.

Nice beach and one of only a few beaches that allow dogs all year all day. There is plenty of parking and if you’re lucky enough there is 2hr parking at Brant Rock for free. Beach is a little rocky, but depends on where you are. Also, a lot smoother sand if you go out a little bit. Nothing spectacular, but great if you have a dog and want to bring him/​her along for the fun. Our dog had a blast digging in the sand all day!

This IS as good as it gets — I am certain that my time on this beach has added time to my life that stress has removed!
First off. if you are not a Marshfield resident with a sticker parking can be a bit of a hit ($ 10 during the week — $ 15 on weekends). So pack the car with friends and go anyway — it is worth the cost! A short walk over the dune and you come upon a vast expanse of beach with soft sand and rolling waves. No matter how crowded the beach you will not have trouble finding space for you and your stuff. The beach is so clean and perfect for long beach walks, there are no blaring radios, and there are usually great waves to play in. You can pack a cooler but if you don’t there is a fantastic snack bar that has everything from chicken fingers and burgers to ice cream and slush (the soft Italian ice style — YUMM)

Great beach closish to the city. Its easy to get to and there seemed like plenty of public parking, at least for a Friday afternoon. There were only two things that detracted from the overall experience, and one of them was the cover charge, if you will, to park. $ 10 for a friday seemed a bit steep, but i wanted to check it out anyway so I grit my teeth and forked it over.
Sand was nice and soft and not really too many rocks to get in the way. Like most MA beaches there was not really much of a break on the waves, and it looked cold. I went there mostly for a run and it was great for that… not too many people and good length run to the end of the beach (about 3 miles to the end of the beach running north). The scenery was nice, but the only other thing that detracted from the overall experience was the presence of a few flies that kept trying to get a bite out of my delicious flesh. Their heads looked like shiny green iridium. Evil little buggers, but there weren’t really a ton of em.
I also hit up the snack shop and they have the old school italian ices that are nice and soft, but they call them slushies. I always think of slush puppies when I hear slushies, and this was much better. Yum.
Anyway, I’d go back, but probably spend a full day and pack a few people into the car to get more bang for your buck. Summertime and the livin is easy.
