I am so upset with Jan’s Boutique and her lousy service! I was on their website, made and printed my list of gowns thatI was interested in, wrote my emails regarding the availability of the gowns, opened their emails and learned the gowns were available, got into my car and drove three hours to find out that 1. One gown was reserved so I couldn’t even see it, and 2. The other wasn’t really there! I can’t believe how friggen crude Jan is! She wasted my time and didn’t care! She refused to even let me see the gown! They really have about 200 gowns in various sizes and tell you to look on your own! Don’t waste your time going there! They should be fined for what they did to me. They wasted my time, money, lied to me, and aggravated me ! Never again! Unfortunately I had to give them a star or I couldn’t post my review! Shame on you Jan!

My mother needed to find a gown for my upcoming wedding and someone suggested that we try Jan’s. We should have walked out after the first appointment, but my mom thought that the saleswoman was just having a bad day, and my mother ended up finding a beautiful dress for my wedding. They wouldn’t order her a new dress and made her buy one that had been tried on by other people.(They said to order a new dress it would add a large sum of money to the price of the dress). My mother also did not love that the dress was strapless, the saleswoman assured her that the shaw could be made into a beautiful jacket. So my mom felt great about that, and bought the dress. Once the fittings began it just went down hill, the seamstress is rude and has no idea what she is doing. And said if she wanted the jacket made out of her shaw it would cost another $ 500. After 5 fittings we left today with the dress(that has blood stains on it because the seamstress poked her with pins at the last fitting). The answer from the owner Jan was sometimes those things happen. And asked that we do not tell my mom’s friends about her bad experience. So instead of not telling my mom’s friends in person, I’m posting on every wedding related website possible. Stay away from this place, they are rude, unprofessional, and just out for your money.

My friend’s son is getting married soon and I accompanied her to the store several times for fittings. From the minute I walked into the store I got a bad vibe. The salespeople were friendly, but the people running the place seemed very aloof and curt. When my friend told one of them that she had an appointment for a fitting it almost felt like they’re doing her favor and«letting» her have a fitting. Sure enough, the fitting room area did not disappoint. There are signs all over the place stating the maximum amount of time you can stay in the fitting room, no photos, etc. Definitely not customer friendly. I couldn’t believe the prices either. Seriously, the clothes in the main area are mostly polyester, no brand names. Way overpriced. When I saw some of the prices for the dressy clothes I was even more surprised. Sure, they have some beautiful dresses but nothing to warrant these prices. I buy plenty of high end clothes and shop mostly in NYC. I don’t mind paying for quality but these prices don’t match what you’re getting. Additionally they charge hefty fees for alterations. My friend found a beautiful dress that she loved, we went back for a couple of fittings and each time she picked up some other clothes and jewelry as well. She spent a good amount of money there. The final straw, the reason I will never step into that store is the way they treated her on our last trip. She bought one top that she wanted to return. The return window had lapsed at that point. Considering what a great customer she is I expected that at the least, they would have given her store credit. The only thing they offered, after much pleading, was a credit for 75% of what she paid. This should have been a non-issue. It was a tiny fraction of what she’d spent overall. They could easily have hung the top on the rack and given her a store credit. The arrogance displayed by management is unlike anything I have EVER seen at a store. They were rude, obnoxious and condescending. They lost a customer who had dropped a lot of money at the store and I will certainly never shop there either

I was searching for a mother of the groom dress and jans was recommended. Upon arriving at my appointment, my sales assistant Marie seemed originally reluctant to assist based on my «low price point», but did attempt to provide me several choices. I ended up finding a dress off the rack that was perfect, but above what I planned to spend. I left with intent to return with my husband(wanted his opinion) before purchasing. Paul provided me with the style number so I could send pics for their website to family members. Upon checking Jans website I discovered the EXACT dress that I tried on was on sale for ½price. I went back that afternoon to purchase and upon showing them the advertised price on their website, was told it was a «mistake“by the owner. When I suggested that they should honor the advertised price«Paul» the owner immediately removed it from the web site and said I had no proof. I was still willing to purchase the dress at full price if they apologized for their error and did the hem gratis. They became rude said no and proceeded to «inform» me that people come from around the country and spend thousands of dollars with them, so my time is of no value. Guess what Jans. I ended purchasing a dress at 3x the cost that I love from a shop that values their customers. You lost my business based on your erroneous assumption that this customer does not have the financial means to purchase any dress in your«boutique». Wrong. Your financial loss. Overall found all but my associate Marie to be rude and condescending.

Since New Jersey has no shortage of special occasion dress shops, this is a store that I would avoid. To begin with, the website is used to convey the impression that the store has a wide selection of dresses and borders on deceptive, as the store actually stocks a fraction of the dresses and styles depicted on the web site. I visited the store in August of 2012 to shop for a dress for my son’s wedding in November. I tried on a few dresses and ended up ordering a simple dress with a matching jacket. When I was measured for size, I was advised to order one size up. When I received the dress, the jacket was so big that it had to be taken apart and re-done at a substantial expense and only realized later that other, more competent shops would have ordered a smaller size jacket. I was charged the sum of $ 25.00 for mailing. An $ 800.00 dress arrived protected by nothing more than a plastic bag of the type one gets from the dry cleaner. At best, this store deserved a grade of «C.» There are much better choices out there.

On Thursday 6÷14÷2012, I sent an email to Jan’s Boutique to see if they had a certain gown in stock. I received confirmation that they did indeed have the dress in the color and style that I wanted. On Saturday afternoon, In called the store to verify the presence of the dress. I believe that the man who responded to my call was Paul. I told him that I was making a 4hour trip(both ways) on Monday morning and wanted to be sure. He said, «if the computer says it’s there it’s there.» I arrived at the store at 11:00 am. I was told that I could not bring my Nostrums dress(another style) into the store. I said, «you can watch me change, I just want to compare them. The answer was, NO. The woman then went to bring out the dress I had asked for and came back quickly to say that it had been sold. REASONSNOTTOSHOPATJANSBOUTIQUE 1. They accept no returns 2. They don’t discount 3. They save no dresses 4. They never apologize or admit their mistake.
