Hope Valley Resort & Campground

Great area right across from the river! There were some good fishing spots, and the facilities were kept very clean. The campsite allows up to six people, but our normal three tents wouldn’t fit. Beautiful area, and although we could see our neigbors across the wooded area, we were never really bothered sound-​wise.

This is a great location for a campground. Campsites allow RV hookups and for tent camping. Each campsite is a bit small for my taste, but my parents booked a set of 3 next to each other for 6 of us and it was plenty of room for all of us plus 3 dogs. It kept everyone cozy, but still gave everyone enough space to be sane.
There is a river running through behind the campsite so you hear the water and wildlife living near the water. It’s right off the 88 and a 20 minute drive to the nearest town to buy groceries. There is no cell service, but that may be exactly what you’re looking for. We went when it was raining, but we like the secluded feel and how it’s smack dab in the middle of trees and next to water.
It’s 20 – 40 minutes drive away from the nearest lakes. Blue Lake, Caples Lake, etc. When we went to Blue Lake, it was pretty dried up and had wild fish. We only saw Caples Lake on our way back and wished we had done a day trip there.
If you’re driving at night like we did, be sure to keep going on the 88 and there will be a dimly lit sign on the right. It’s past Sorensen Resort.
Overall, this campsite is a nice gem, I’d like to keep to myself. It’s not like those popular campsites in Big Sur with a lot of activity going on… which I like.

This place is a hidden gem and only about an hour and a half outside of Reno.
We now come here several times per year with our RV for a few reasons:
1. It’s a rustic site but has full hookups (electricity, water, sewer)
2. It’s small (in a good way)
3. Few people actually know about it. Other than major holidays like July 4^th it’s pretty easy to get into.
4. The camp host Eric is awesome and always makes you feel welcome.
5. You will have little to no cell phone service (we use radios)
6. The backdrop on the Carson River and the surroundings is jaw-​droppingly beautiful
It’s great if you come in mid fall when the aspens are changing — it’s amazing.
The sites here aren’t huge but I can fit my 30′ Trailer + Ford Excursion in most of them.
The sites are clean and have well built campfires. Fortunately the people that stay here care about keeping it clean as does the camp host.
The bathrooms and showers are right in the middle of the park and are kept clean as well. They are a little dated but get the job done!
If you’re looking to get away for a few days but stay close to home — this is the place to go.
