History

Established in 2007.

Documentary photographer Wesley T Kitten has experience in wedding photography, engagement photography, family portraits, senior portraits, modeling photography, and event photography. Wesley has attended both Brooks Institute of Photography and Academy of Art University for documentary photography. He has worked for a talent agency shooting head shots and modeling shots. For two summers, he served as the documentary photographer for a nonprofit inner city home repair organization in Memphis, TN. He was the staff photographer for Vetted Word, a creative community of poets, writers, and musicians in San Francisco. Wesley currently lives in Marion, IN.

«For me, photography is something I have to do. My mind thinks photographically. My eyes see everything as a possible photograph and the camera becomes a natural extension of who I am. After years of an interest in photography, it has developed into something more than a passion. There is so much joy when I capture those decisive moments. Or when I can produce a photo that matches the idea I had in my head. I document life to share life with others. Even when I don’t have a camera with me (which is very rare), I am taking mental snapshots and thinking how I can come back and capture what I saw. I am blessed to have access to so many wonderful artists who always inspire me to improve and to view the world around me with different eyes. I started WTK Photography to fulfill my passion of photography, to give you wonderful photos of life’s most memorable events or those simple, everyday moments.»

I have had the pleasure of knowing multiple organizations and individuals that have worked with Wes from WTK and not once have I meet anyone who was anything but ecstatic about the results of their photos. Just about any photographer can gather people into groups and click off a good picture, or set people into the tried and true formations and groupings that always looked good. Where Wes excels is that he takes time to listen to his clients, their interests, personality, etc… He takes that information and uses it to translate someones personality onto film. My younger brother has a unique personality, and Wes did a great job of showing it in his pictures. If you want a innovative and original photographer, no one I know is a better option than WTK Photography.

I just want to say that the most important choice in wedding planning is the photographer! I have had so many friends that hire these «reputable» companies with beautiful portfolios, and then the company sends some newbie to do the job and the pictures are TERRIBLE. (I’ve had more than one friend cry after getting their pics back.) With WTK photography, you know exactly WHO you are getting, and exactly what quality the work will be.
We worked with Wes a while back to have our engagement pictures done. He did such a great job that we asked him to do our wedding, too! I highly recommend you get him to do both, since now his style is evident in all our pictures. Also, you will get to know him before the wedding so that he gets an idea of who you are as a couple.
His method is very relaxed and uninvasive, so he captured really natural, fun, candid photos of us. He will give direction and ideas, but really loves input from the people he works with for engagements and weddings.
I really love his portraits of people, but I’d say the phenomenal talent of Wes is MOST evident in his ability to capture the mood and the scenery of your event, too. This is where so many wedding photographers fall short. If I ever had a party or event of any kind, I’d get him to photograph it.
I cherish all the memories he has helped us preserve! I wish we could just take him with us on all our life adventures!

Look, I’m not saying I always look good… but when I do, it’s usually in a WTK picture. I don’t think I’ve ever had so many people say, «wow, you looked great in that picture that Wes took.» I don’t know how he does it.
One thing about Wes is that he puts people at ease. Half of the time that I’m at an event that he’s shooting at, I don’t even notice that he’s taking pictures. A couple of days later He’ll promptly put his shots online, and there’ll be a great picture of me that I don’t even remember being taken. Wes is a natural with the camera, and it allows people to act natural when he’s shooting around them. I couldn’t ask for anything more in an event photographer.

As a performance artist I have a lot of people coming up to me claiming they are a ‘photographer’ yet it is nearly impossible to find people whose work fits that description. Never in my 15 years of professional experience have I met someone who can capture the moment in more artistic detail then the average set. I can not recommended their work highly enough!

Wes Kitten has been taking pictures for the Vetted Word community (a performance art showcase) for almost a year now and I can’t say enough about how much he has done for the overall marketing of our little endeavor. Not only have his virtuoso pics taken VW to a new level in the San Francisco lit-​scene but they are part of the reason that poets and other performance artist want to get booked at our shows.
Our artists (and sometimes audience members) walk away with amazing head shots in dramatic posses ~ every time!
In addition to his phenomenal pictures, his professionalism and overall presentation of the finished product make our lives at VW much easier! We’re able to select different pics in different styles and colors within minutes all because Kitten has taken the time to organize, sift and deliver on time — every time.
I can’t (and don’t want to) imagine a Vetted Word event without Kitten’s polished pictures and attention to detail. We’re a better community because of him and his work.

We hired Wes for our 1÷11÷11 wedding and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I figure you get married once (that’s the plan right?!?) so I spoke with a lot of different photographers and viewed a lot of portfolios… honestly, they all started to blend. What made Wes stand out was his personality and beautiful portfolio. We met over coffee and he was open and encouraged my input to what we were looking for on our big day. Honestly, there were only a couple of shots that I haaad to have and then after that I was open. Getting married at city hall, we didn’t want every single picture indoors. Wes was right there with us, suggesting some amaaaazing sites around the city! He even had some back up suggestions if the sf weather didn’t cooperate. He was laid back without making me freak out that he was missing something. The day of our wedding there was fog (SHOCKING!) And they were calling for rain… awesome. Well, the fog stuck around, but the rain held off. Great thing was it didn’t matter when viewing the pictures! He took like 300 and it was so hard to narrow down because they were all fabulous. Black and white (my fave), color and aged… couldn’t be happier. Apparently he does engagement pics also, wish we would have known bc he is just an all around great guy and photographer. I would go with him again in a heartbeat.

Wes shot a beautiful array of photos of my wife and I in front of Golden Gate Bridge along Baker Beach. He had some amazing locations, ideas and the finished product was tremendous. We’ve had so many great comments about the pictures he took.
Wes was really easy to work with. He made sure to get the shots we wanted and his suggestions were brilliant. He was super laid back and gave great direction at the same time… especially when I had no clue what to do.
Wes is a great photographer and I’m looking forward to him taking our pictures for our 10 year anniversary next year!
