Thousands of migrating raptors pass by this spot, also known as Hawk Hill, during the fall. Something about how the thermals rising up off the coast end at the ocean, and they won’t cross the Golden Gate because of it. You can spot all kinds of exotic species here, and a troop of dedicated spotters identifies and tallies the birds they see. They also have brief noontime lectures about identifying hawks, eagles and falcons on weekends, and shortly thereafter, a demonstration on banding. If that isn’t enough, this is probably the best view of the entire Golden Gate that there is. Bring some binoculars and spend an afternoon here on a sunny day. You’ll be amazed at what you see.
