First time trying this place and it was delicious. I had the meatloaf on white rice, collards and yams. I also added the black eyed peas and fried okra for my husband. Everything was amazing! I will definitely go back. I want to try the baked chicken next time. :)

I jumped aboard the Soulfood Train… All Smiles this way! Finally checked this place out, and I’m sure they will be seeing a lot more of my son and I. Before walking into the restaurant my son was convinced that he wanted fast-food, but after my plate was made he instantly changed his mind. I ordered the baked chicken with gravy and rice, collard greens and Mac & cheese, No Complaints this way. My son ordered beef tips stew, blackeye peas and mac & cheese, he wasnt complaining either… To busy eating. The food was good. The owner was extremely friendly, she recongized that we were new faces, so of course she begin telling us how fresh her products are and that they were all locally grown vegetables, prepared without pork… I politely let her know that pork is alright with me, if she ever wants to slip some into my dishes. Hahaha. Small restaurant, very charming with limited seating. Cafateria style service. We will be Back!!!

It’s very frustrating to arrive at a restaurant several times throughout the week, only to find that they are not open for business. I’ve tried in the middle of the week, and also on a Saturday. Neither time has this establishment been open. If you are thinking of trying this place, please call ahead. They are closed on Saturdays in spite of the posted hours.

Clearly I’ve been busy with school because I cannot believe I haven’t written a review for this place yet. I love soul food train! It’s theclosest thing I can get to my momma’s cooking. Kris/Chris(I’m not sure how she spells her name) is the owner and cook. She is like your auntie on your daddy side. I love it. Makes me feel like I’m back in south Ga. Very homey, friendly, and laid back. Typically when I go she greets, serves, and cashes me out. The setup is somewhat cafeteria style. Usually there are 2 – 3 meats to choose from and then maybe 6 or so sides. Ok, honestly, I’ve never had anything bad from here. I think maybe once, my greens were a tad bit on the salty side but that’s about the only gripe I could come up with at this point. I always get the meat and 2 sides with bread(around $ 9)…although sometimes I’m so greedy or everything thing looks so good I’ll add on another meat or side. The fried chicken is like homecooked fried chicken. Not store or restaurant bought with all the batter but just legit, well-seasoned fried chicken. I’m pretty sure it’s always legs or wings. You get 3 pieces before having to struggle to pick sides. Baked chicken… bomb. Fall of the bone tender in its own gravy. Turkey neckbones… yesssss. You just can’t go wrong with anything. I’m not gonna go through everything I’ve gotten from here mainly bc I can feel all of you judging me. *gives you the hand* However I’ll tell you my favorite sides are… the yams, mac n cheese, collard greens, green beans, and fried okra… in no particular order. Ok I’m gonna give it 5 stars for FOOD solely but if I had to take away a star it would be for ambiance. Very basic, clean, but nothing to write home about. Doesn’t bother me though, I always take my food to go although I can barely make it out of the parking lot before digging in. I’ve never had drinks or desserts from here but word is that they don’t disappoint either. Oh! Last but not least, portion sizes are plentiful. Now excuse me, I think I’m gonna go pop over to SFT for lunch. ;-)

The food is great. But the atmosphere is lackluster. This is the type of spot where you get your food to go. The lemonade is good and sweet. I recommend the turkey wings, Mac n cheese and sweet potatoes. When they ask if you want a roll or cornbread on the side — get the Roll, it’s 2 of the King’s Hawaiian rolls wrapped in foil and heated up. Enjoy at home.

Great food and customer service. Nice to find a place that reminds me of home. The mac n cheese is great and collards and yams. Great portion size and affordable.

I can’t lie and say they don’t have grear food here, but the issue is if there going to be open. Literally the last three times I have come they are closed. I love supporting small businesses but I just can’t support people who have no structure to there business. Great food if you can ever get it, I can’t waste another day driving here only for them to be closed for some random reason. At least they could up date there hours so you don’t waste time driving there. Needless to say they have lost a long time customer!

Was in town for a family reunion at the hotel across the parking lot and all I can say is heavenly cooking!!! The sisters that run it put heart, soul and their«foot» in that food.

Soul Food Train is a Southern and soul food restaurant that opened April 2012 in Nazareth Plaza, located near the intersection of Franklin Road and South Marietta Parkway(South 120 Loop). The shopping center is home to popular Tasty China(two doors down) and Jerusalem Bakery. Soul Food Train is a small«mom and pop» restaurant. It’s run by two sisters. This is a pretty basic, no-frills restaurant. There’s not much to speak of in terms of ambiance. Foods are prepared daily and set up on an ordering line, cafeteria-style. There are about 10 – 12 different selections on a typical day. The daily special«meat and two»(one meat and two sides) is $ 8.99 plus tax and comes with cornbread(no drink). Drinks include fresh lemonade and sweet tea. All food and drink are served on disposable plates or in disposable containers. Meats often consist of fried chicken and baked chicken. I’ve also seen turkey meatloaf, smothered pork chops, and(pork) neck bones. They serve oxtail on Sunday I believe. Sides include mac and cheese, collard greens, candied yams, green beans, cabbage, mashed potatoes and gravy, and rice. These are several, but not all, items the kitchen offers. I’ve tried both the fried chicken and baked chicken and both are good. The fried chicken is crispy and savory. You can choose which pieces you want(e.g. drumstick, thigh, breast). Compared to a fast food fried chicken place like Popeyes, I like that Soul Food Train’s fried chicken is mildly seasoned with less batter and less grease. The baked chicken, all drumsticks, is served with white rice and gravy. The meat is tender, moist, and falls off the bone. It tastes homemade and I recommend it. Sides I’ve tried include the mac and cheese, collard greens, cabbage, and candied yams. They’re A-OK. I like the mac and cheese which is made with five cheeses and small elbow macaroni. The darker orange, chewier, cheesier parts are quite tasty. The finely chopped collards are prepared with turkey, not pork. Therefore, the flavors aren’t as pronounced, but still satisfying nonetheless. The chopped cabbage is tasty and the candied yams are soft, smooth, sweet, and gratifying. If it’s your first time at Soul Food Train, I suggest ordering the mac and cheese and candied yams as your two sides. Chris is the owner and she’ll most likely greet and serve you. She’s friendly, hospitable, will treat you like family, and make you feel at home. She does everything from cooking to taking orders to serving to ringing customers up. The atmosphere is very much laid back and casual. You don’t have to pay until after you’ve finished eating. The restaurant caters and take-out is a convenient and popular option.

Low key, Cobb County has some great soul food. RC’s is my usual go-to, but Soul Food Train is a welcome addition to the mix. I’m a big guy, so aside from it being good food, I need hearty portions… Soul Food Train delivers on both. Usually, I’m stopping for the one thing I can’t seem to find anywhere else… turkey necks! They serve them with rice & gravy, along with two other sides of your choice. Usually, I’m running with the mac & cheese, and either collards or cabbage. They’re consistently good… meaty turkey necks cooked until they’re fork tender, sides that are seasoned well AND vegetarian, and the service that I get from Ms. Chris and Ms. Sheila is always like going to my auntie’s house… I dig it. I’ve tried the meatloaf(they have beef and a turkey version), baked chicken, and the fried pork chops… they’ve always hit the mark for me. Added bonus: multiple bottles of hot sauce! Everything from Trappey’s and Crystal, to Louisiana and Tabasco… something for everybody.

I give it 3 stars because the food wasn’t terrible. They offer small servings and the selection is very limited. It just wasn’t anything that stood out enough to make me want to return. By the way they no longer make apple pie. I expect all genuine soul food spots to have certain dishes without fail. Apparently they use to serve apple pie, but no longer carried it. That is a deal breaker for me. You have to have apple pie, greens, sweet potato pie, old fashioned corn bread and mac n cheese. That is the smell of good home cooking. I didn’t mention fried chicken folks… that’s a giving. The staff/owners were pleasant.

The food is delicious. I had the Turkey Wings and Dressing, the meat was falling off the bone. My kids had the Chicken Wings and Mac & Cheese. They ate every bit of their food and devoured the Cornbread. This is a new pit stop on my list.

Just don’t ask for extra sauce!!! I ordered the chicken and rice dinner to go, requesting that the chicken gravy be placed in a sepearate container, since it was to go. The owner came up and pour the juice on my rice instead, stating that is way they serve it. I was confused as to who was paying for the meal! Me or her? It is unfortunate that black customer service is defintely missing at this establishment. I will never go back. and nor would I recommend this restarant. I pay for what I want and how I want it, even if it might cost extra, but to be told that was the way I had to have it, is a big no-no.

I was a lil disappointed no more sweet potato pie… Next time. I’m happy they r located in Cobb county ;) I will be returning ;)

I wanted to go 3.5 but it would not allow me. The food was good, the staff was friendly it was just missing something to make it a full 4 stars. I will be going back because I did enjoy the food.

This is real«soul food». Not«southern» or «down south» or whatever regional name one might throw at this food. You take a bite out of anything they make here, and you can actually taste the love and hope and anything else that is positive in the human race within this food… –I’m sorry, am I being overly dramatic… Sigh. My bad… We were the first couple people to show up on a weekday right at 11 A.M. I skipped breakfast just so that I wouldn’t be full around lunch time. One of the owners, Lavonda COOK(what an appropriate last name), greeted us as soon as we came in. She was so nice and welcoming. I wanted to try the fried chicken, so I had to wait a few minutes for that to finish cooking. My sis is vegetarian; however, and went ahead with her macaroni, veggie medley, rice, and greens. I ordered the fried chicken, macaroni, and greens. The macaroni has five cheeses in it and was perfect. The greens were pretty good, not as soft as I usually eat them, but they were still good. The fried chicken? Church’s, Popeye’s, and KFC, please promptly eat your hearts out. This fried chicken tastes like the stuff at HOME. Like, almost as good as Granny’s! Tender and juicy on the inside with a seasoned crispy crust on the outside! Between the warm service from Lavonda(who was chatty & funny), the big ol’ school T.V. set on the floor– haha, and the food, which was insanely delicious, I know for a fact that we will continue to come back. **This restaurant is located in a plaza near the Franklin Road/South Marietta Parkway intersection. **

My friend found a coupon for this new restaurant on Half Off Depot. They have a 100 rating from the health inspector(yay!!!). This is a great place to fix your Sunday plate. I got the fried chicken, mac and cheese, and broccoli casserole. My friend ordered fried chicken and two sides of greens. This place was not fancy, but the food was really good. They even had the kids helping with ringing up the customers. This was a great find!
