Delk Road Self Storage

This facility suffers from unprofessional employees, poor service, and outdated facilities.
I visited Delk Road Self Storage to rent a U-​Haul truck. I was greeted with a locked door, although an employee was inside. He was arguing with someone. When he saw me he opened the door and yelled for another worker to come inside.
The second guy came in, and I was immediately confused. He was in business clothes but was sweating to the point that he was literally dripping onto the floor. He looked like he had just run a marathon through the Sahara. I asked if he was okay and he said yes, that he had just «been lifting outside» on his lunch break. Odd, but whatever, to each his own.
The sweaty guy eventually got my my keys and I was off. I completed my move and dropped off the truck. That’s when trouble began. I accidentally left a box in the truck, but only realized it after I left. I called the next morning as soon as they opened and asked if I could come retrieve the box. (I had dropped off the keys in the box the night before, and could not get back into the truck).
I was told that I could not get the box and that it had already been discarded. I was also charged a $ 25 clean-​up fee, despite asking if I could come take care of the box myself.
The people who work here are the worst kind of lazy — they don’t provide any up-​front help and then won’t work with you when you return your rental. They are completely incompetent, and whatever they are being paid is too much. My advice is to avoid this facility and give your business to a place that will let you claim your own box rather than throwing it away before talking to you.

I would not recommend that anyone use this facility to store their items or for the uhaul. The price is FAR EXCEEDS any self storage facility in town. I used the climate controlled storage. When i returned to retrieve belongings, some of my furniture had bird feces on it. The customer service is also horrible. I reserved a truck for rental but when I arrived at the facility but the truck wasn’t available. I asked the employee if I could just use the facility’s truck for the same price. He told me that it would be additional an $ 10 to use it. The guy was rude to customers over the phone and has not a single ounce of customer service. If you just need somewhere to put your belongings and don’t care about possible damage due to feces, I would recommend that you use this facility to store your items.

After renting at this location for approximately 6 months. I vacated my storage unit. My unit was in the «climate controlled» portion of the property.
What I didn’t realize is that the cotrolled climate is an illusion. it is located in a large building with a door measuring alproximately 12′ X15’ at each end. These doors remain open in all weather so the dust and moisture are not controlled. As a result my leather furniture and several pieces of irreplaceable art were mildewed and damaged. The items that were not mildewed, were coverd with dust and pollen that had blown in through the large doors.
To add insult to property damage, I had overpaid the comapany one month’s rent which was $ 200. This is an exorbitant price as compared tk their comletition. You can Google that. I gave 1 month notice rhat I was moving. At that time, I was told by office personnel that if I were out by the 5^th of the month, that I would not have to pay for the month. As peomised I vacated the unit and cleaned it on the 5^th. However, when I asked to be refunded the over payment, I was told that I would be charged a $ 38.00 proration for the 5 days.
In summary, this business charges much more than its competitors for inferior or even deceptive space. Some of the office staff is polite and accomodating to your needs. However, a gentleman named Mark is rude, and refuses to abide by the word of other staff members, and is desperate enough to keep funds that he refuses to return the overpayment. Shame on me for renting space there. Shame on Delk Road Self Storage for operating a business that does not honor it’s commitments.

This is a rating on the U-​Haul service available at this location, not the self-​storage facility.
1. NO signage reflecting that this is a U-​Haul outlet … if you sign up for a truck on U-Haul’s online site … good freaking luck finding this place. My GPS insisted the location was in the middle of I-​75.
2. As this is a secondary business, it gets secondary attention at best. Didn’t have items the website claimed it would … and the first appliance hand truck the guy tried to give me (more expensive to rent) was broken. My friend luckily noticed before we drove off.
3. Count your pads with the sales agent BEFORE you leave. We took 6 instead of the usual 12 and when I returned I almost got charged for the «missing» 6.
4. Our truck WAS clean, I’ll give ‘em that. But it was old and had issues with ignition.
These folks may be absolutely fine when it comes to self-​storage … but I’d never rent a U-​Haul here again.
