History

Established in 1978.

The swaying palms and tropical breezes greet you when you cross the bridge and let you know it is time for a change in attitude. Georgie’s and The Shoe Resort has been located on this subtropical island for over 30 years. In today’s world it is hard to stay in business without great customer service and an informed and friendly staff. The selection of clothing, shoes and accessories reflects the upbeat and happy attitude of Georgie’s. From bohemian, resort, to sophisticated the choices are many.

The shoe business was the main stay for many years so we know our shoes. Our pretty shoes are comfortable and our comfort shoes are pretty. Locals and visitors alike return time and time again because they know that not only will they be happy with their shoes but will also hear many times over, «where did you get those shoes?» If you can’t get to Marco Island, so sorry because the flowers are always in bloom, but you can call or write and our great sales staff will promise not to disappoint.

Business Owner

Georgie’s mother says that she was changing clothes 3 or 4 times a day when she was 4 years old. By the time she was in middle school she was labeling clothing with dates to make sure she didn’t wear anything too often. Her first jobs were in shoe stores and clothing stores. After living a year in Paris her course seemed to be set.

Georgie has been in business for over thirty years on Marco Island. Opening the store at 23 years old, she has literally grown up in the business. Before she was 20 years old she had visited a few shoe factories and attended several shows around the country to assist others with buying.

Travel and adventure have always been a passion. «I especially love visiting more primitive cultures, seeing the handicrafts that they make and seeing the use of colors and textiles. It actually fits with what I do for a living always looking for something fresh and innovative.» Georgie’s other passions include art, biking, rowing and books.
