This is my favorite coffee shop in Marblehead. The coffee is great, and I love the quaint and cozy décor. Customer service is superb. They make their own pastries throughout the day which are also quite good. Try their croissants.

The coffee isnt bad– however each time that ive gone in ive come face to face with a grumpy lady. Staff seems like they dont really care about your order– a real shame because the food and coffee is good. I would prefer atomic café.

I have to admit, I’m a coffee snob and love little local coffee shops. I was excited to try Java Sun when in town a few weeks ago based on the reviews, but was sorely disappointed. This place is probably great for a fun, sweet, flavored coffee beverage, but it’s not the place for a high quality, strong, plain cappuccino or latte. The espresso flavor tasted a bit burnt, and I probably drank a third of my drink before throwing it out. The café could also use a bit more of a cozy feel to be more inviting.

I love, love, love this café Best cortado in Boston area. Sometimes it is hard to find a table, but if you have time, you will find one. Good customer service all the time.

This place is one of my favorites in Marblehead. I often go for a drive and stop here first. The frozen mocha cappuccino blows Starbucks away. However, it’s better when one of the older staff workers prepares it. They know the correct ratio, whereas the rookies need more practice. I cannot get enough of this frozen concoction during the summer months! I’ve also tried their ice coffee, smoothies and hot chocolate. All great, except the hot chocolate needs to be hotter. Their croissants are near perfection. They are flaky, yet soft. I tried one from across the street at the new Cygnet Bakery. It was way too buttery and overpriced. I will come back to Java Sun every time. Go early, as they often sell out. Did I mention the beautiful cakes, cupcakes and Toll House chocolate chip cookies? They keep it simple, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. Everything is fresh, yet has the delicious smell of an old fashioned coffee house. Areas of improvement would be accepting debit cards(cash only) and increasing their hours. I’d love to go by on a Sunday afternoon after 2PM or in the evening during the week.(Bring in local musicians?) Not sure why their hours are so limited, especially since new businesses are open later and Atlantic Ave is no longer buttoned up by 5PM. In fact, it often feels like the staff is eager to close early. Sometimes, they clean up before closing and items are not available. The owner and the manager can be a bit grumpy, but it sort of adds to the charm. Two of the younger workers are super smiley and friendly. They make up for it!

This place has such potential — great coffee, great bagels, great location, cozy setting — although the older gal(owner?) is so constantly cantankerous it’s a full on buzz kill to your otherwise good mood — and messes w/the overall energy of the place. Morning coffee should be easy breezy, a positive start to the day. Not so much here. Reroute yourself to Haley’s if you’re looking for a terrific local alternative w/great coffees, super yummy baked goods, egg dish options for your protein needs, wonderful light, airy and creative setting setting — and all w/a great positive energy(even when super busy) — and even a better location. If you’re looking for lunch — this too is our favorite place in town. Atomic Café is another local great option.

The coffee is fantastic and the pastries are great — especially the blueberry oatmeal muffin. For the size of the pastries and coffee for the price, it is decent, and definitely better than Starbucks around the corner. The young counter workers are super sweet and pleasant, but one downside is that the service of the more seasoned workers is a good deal grumpier — and I can see a huge difference in my lattes, and not for the better. I drive out of my way to work in the morning to stop by Java Sun and deal with the awkward parking situation, which shows you how much I love their coffee. But since I am not one of the regulars who sits and hangs out, I don’t quite get the same level of service. Pros: fantastic coffee and pastries, cute and sunny interior Cons: all customers aren’t treated equal

Great local coffeehouse hangout. Decent(free) wi-fi, pleasant comfortable seating, perfect spot to while away a couple hours. The espresso drinks tend to be burnt-tasting — and I’m someone who loves strong espresso — so I never get straight espresso, only lattes, which are delightful in large porcelain teacups if you stay to drink them there. The biggest attraction is the pastries, all baked on premises. The WARM croissants are wonderful, but my favorite is the oatmeal blueberry muffin — lightly crisp on top, tender and soft but not too cake-like inside, not too sweet, and loaded with more blueberries than batter. The fritatta looks good, but I haven’t tried it yet. I wish they would stay open longer — they cater to an early morning crowd and close mid-afternoon.

Hmmm. Not what I anticipated. This place was kinda opposite world. Usually in a coffee house the young counter persons have the attitude and the older counter persons are nice. Not in this place. The woman that helped us was snotty and couldn’t answer a simple question. My question was, «What’s that pastry at the back of the counter.» If I knew what it was why would I ask. I asked because it looked really delicious. Her acerbic answer was that all pastries are listed on the menu board above. Same attitude when we asked about sizes of coffee. However, later there were two young girls working there and they were as sweet as can be. Not sure how they stayed so sweet working with a grump like that. The coffee was week. The muffin I had was hot and delicious but… I would not recommend this place. Oh, the other opposite thing was that most of the pastries weren’t in the case but instead on the counter behind where the person ringing you up stands. I really had to look to see them. I will never go there again.

This is an ok coffee shop. Good coffee, great baked goods. There are 2 main problems if you want to do any work there – most of the outlets don’t work, and the place often smells quite stuffy. If they got a better ventilation system and fixed those outlets, my rating would definitely go up!

Java Sun is my favorite coffee shop and a great place to chat with locals whether you live in or just visiting the beautiful seaside town of Marblehead, MA. I could not imagine a friendlier staff, making it a wonderful environment to relax in, read the newspaper, etc. Their homemade fritatta and other bagels and pastries are delicious!

I always get the lattes when I come to Java Sun. They are better than any latte I have had in Boston. Java Sun is my go to coffe shop when I am visiting the North Shore. My husband can’t resist the Milky Way latte and always gets a hot crossaint if they aren’t sold out by the time we get there!

Great little coffeehouse with homemade muffins, croissants and biscotti. I have a preference for biscotti when it is done right, and they definitely do it right! Love the biscotti…

In attentive staff. If you are not a regular, they could care less about taking your money. I love visiting local shops, I will never go here again and will head up the street to the Atomic Café where they understand customer service. To be fair, the coffee tasted just fine. Decent product, but, I refuse to frequent a place that treats customers like crap.

The girl serving was so rude that I did not get to try a latte. I visited on Saturday 27th July around 4.00pm, looking for a good latte. I like a strong latte so when the girl finally looked up from what she was doing I asked the size of her coffees and the amount of shots in the different sizes. She pointed at the coffee cups(there were at least 3 different sizes there) and said 2 shots, her attitude was rude and indifferent so right then I thought I did not want to give her my business and walked out. Cannot believe why some staff seem to think it is cool to be rude to their customers.

I have been going to Java Sun for years whenever I am in the Northshore and no other coffee shop compares! Theres nothing too fancy going on, but the coffee is locally roasted and delicious, and the baked goods are all homemade, which is rare nowadays! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the staff friendly. Simple, quality products without the pretentious nonsense most coffeeshops seem to have :)

I am having a very decent cappuccino here. Out of a paper cup.. .I like it when I get a real cup if I’m staying. But hey, what’s in it is good. Cozy couch. Free wifi. Bright, lots of windows, Neighborhoody place, baked goods, juices, yogurt and water. They were playing Beethoven when I came in.. . a nice assortment of piano music, a nice change from the folk or light jazzy standards at lots of coffee shops.. which ain’t bad, but this is kind of awesome. For me, anyway. I’d definitely come back here again and sit and sip and type.

This is a great option if you’re in the North Shore and in need of a java jolt. The atmosphere is cozy and yet spacious. They have a couch area, as well as plenty of tables. They also have a diverse drink menu; so, if you’re something like me, making up your mind may be the hardest part. I chose their chai and asked for a shot of espresso. It was just okay. Well, actually, I’ve made better chai at home. Maybe that wasn’t the correct thing to order. I also tried their dark blend of the day, and it was good. I probably should have gone with the straight-up coffee. At any rate, I’d certainly go back and give this place another try.
