Captain Pip’s Marina & Hideaway in Marathon, Florida Keys (Mile Marker 47.5) is known for its spotless accommodations and friendly island atmosphere. Located on Florida Bay a half mile from the Seven Mile Bridge, there’s easy open water access to the bay and the ocean. We offer quality Florida boat rentals, parasailing, snorkeling, kayak & paddle-​board rentals and beautiful Florida Keys accommodations in our tropical vacation suites.

The bayside harbor includes Porky’s Bayside Restaurant, where you’ll enjoy all-​American Bar-​B-​Q and fresh catch seafood with live music in a casual, tropical, on-​the-​water setting. Our unique location has hosted famous Keys visitors since the 1950’s — including such notables as Ernest Hemingway and Jimmy Hoffa. Business Owner

Ernie purchased Captain Pip’s Marina & Hideaway from the previous owners in 2014. Since that time he has completely renovated the accommodations & purchased new buildings to increase our total room count. He has also purchased new power boats & engines for our boat rental fleet, & purchased kayaks & paddle boards & bicycles. In February 2015 he also added a much requested swimming pool to the property. In 2015 he also added a para-​sail boat — the Seven Mile High Club — to give our guests more options for fun. In December of 2015 he added the Spirit Power Catamaran to the resort, so now guests can take a snorkel trip out to Sombrero Reef or Pirate’s Cove. Captain Pip’s has lots to offer our guests — great tropical rooms at a reasonable price, with plenty of options for fun things to do while people stay here. People can also rent a power boat, take a para sail trip or snorkel trip with us even when they are staying elsewhere in the Florida Keys.

Boats are in bad shape. Not terribly expensive to rent from. The people were nice, for the most part. Wouldn’t rent from them again. The worst part of it all is that make you clean the boats after your rent them.

We stayed at «Queen room with Sea View #1» for a night during our road trip to key west. I have to say that this is a real gem located right next to the seven-​mile bridge. The location is great and what’s more important is that the room we got itself is fantastic. We weren’t expecting much considering the low price the host charged and with some negative reviews posted in Unilocal earlier but we were definitely stunned. The room is clean, full of amenities, and the sea view is not a marketing s**t. It’s a big window with a fantastic sea view! We felt really comfortable during the stay.

The staff was amazing! Loved the hospitality. Don’t let the exterior turn you off, the rooms are updated and nicely decorated. We felt very much at home with our ocean view room. Coffee is included in the room, as well as a cooler to borrow and beach towels. Our room included a full size fridge, microwave, toaster, plates, and silverware. Bed was too firm and noisy for our tastes and the rooms are not sound proof. But, we will be back!

When we arrived at Captain Pip’s we couldn’t figure out at first if we were at the right place, until we saw Porky’s restaurant. The neon green office is easy to miss because it’s very small — small, but cute. Very impressive rooms, a lot bigger than what I was expecting from what I paid for an overnight stay. Very clean inside, we had a great view of the boat dock/​water from the bedroom that we ended up getting — the Sombrero room/​apt. I also wasn’t expecting to have a little kitchen, so that was a big plus. This location is very close (about 15 minutes) to the Bahia Honda State Park if you are looking to book somewhere close to some of the beautiful beaches in the Keys. There is also free wifi at this hotel, which allowed us to stream a show when the TV cable went out. We stayed here for 1 night as a stop on our way to Key West, and we would stay here again.

We didn’t stay at Captain Pips, but we did go parasailing and had a blast. We walked up randomly one afternoon after a beach day, and the guys got us taken care of immediately. The women in the office were friendly and the paperwork process probably only took 10 min. Since no one else was there we pretty much got a private charter. The driver was nice and asked us what radio station we wanted to listen to. My boyfriend and I got to go up together, and since this was my first time the guys were really good at talking me through everything.
Once we were in the air the view was amazing. I saw manatee right below us which was very cool. The dip in the water was awesome since it was around 90 degrees that day.
My only complaint is that you can’t see the pictures they take before you buy them. We paid $ 37 for the disk, and even though there are some cool long shots it would have been nice to have a close up or two. Either way the experience was a lot of fun.
My boyfriend actually stopped back later in the day to buy a shirt because I convinced him that it’s much cooler to have a shirt from somewhere you actually went instead of a random one from one of those giant tourist stores.

This was such a cute place!
I booked one night at Captain Pip’s so we had a place to stop on our way to Key West. Didn’t put a lot of thought into it. It was a great choice.
My travel companion and I were fairly surly after having a difficult time getting out of Ft. Lauderdale and slugging it out during rush hour on the Florida Turnpike. No fucking bueno.
We FINALLY got to Marathon… thankfully we’d called ahead thinking we’d probably be arriving late. After looking at the «office,» a tiny shed that you would buy at Home Depot for your lawn mower, I thought we were in for a difficult evening. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
There was a map at the office leading us to the «Sombrero Room.» Cute little room with a full kitchen and a nice-​sized bedroom. Way above expectations! Right on the water, had a nice area in back with a BBQ grill, plenty of seating, and a dock. Very clean and nice.
We explored the area around the hotel and had a great evening. I sat on the dock and sipped a cerveza before hitting the rack. Perfect.
If I ever get back to the Keys, I will spend at least a couple of nights at Cap’t Pip’s. It would be a great base to explore the Keys. I mean, there are only so many times you can walk up and down Duval Street in Key West, amirite???
Give it a shot, you won’t be disappointed.
We did encounter a scorpion in the room, so be alert! :)

One great little treasure in the Florida Keys. As Keysy as it can get and a real tropical lodging treat. NO it’s not the Hilton. It’s a quaint little fishing retreat. CleanClean Rooms and Apartments. Boat Rentals, Paddle Boards and Charter fishing with me.

We stayed here for a night on our way through the Keys, and I’m so glad we did.
Captain Pip’s was accommodating to our late arrival. Our room was affordable, nicely decorated, and very clean. We loved the location– it is super close to some great Cuban restaurants (we ate at both Nina’s and Juice Paradise and loved them both). It is also convenient to Sombrero Beach and Bahia Honda.
This is not a luxury hotel by any means, but it is a wonderful, laid-​back spot in the Keys that I would definitely recommend.

It has pros and cons.
Pros:
o Location — Damn close to Bahia Honda state park. Many nice restaurants nearby. Easy access to fishing, diving and snorkeling.
o Friendly Staff — Checkin and housekeeping were very nice.
o Off-​season rates — Very good.
Cons:
o Pests — It’s tropical South Florida, so you have to expect a gecko or two and other interesting things, but unfortunately our room had a flying ant colony that bothered us and our neighbor found a scorpion in a shoe. The ant issue was reported as we left.
o Venilation — Their new AC units are very good, but the room was closed up and very musty smelling. Screens need repair to allow the windows to be opened.
o WiFI — They need to deploy a few more access points as it was not available in our room (Sombrero Efficiency), so it chewed up the cell data plan a bit researching places on Unilocal.:)
They seem to be trying hard and given the cleanliness of the linens, I’d consider them again. It’s good to see them taking care of the big ticket items (AC primarily), but they need to spend time on redoing the door sweeps, door locks and screens. I wish them luck as this place has high potential with a little bit of improvement.

We rented a boat on three different days during our stay in Marathon. We could not have been happier with the customer service and the boats. The guys working the dock and the ladies in the front office were very helpful. If you rent a boat, go for the twin engine if you can. Great boat. We met the new owner and he is clearly engaged in his business. We were told he was replacing the fleet as part of his upgrades. Thanks to everyone.

I have never stay in the «in between keys» but staying at Captain Pip’s made Marathon Key very exciting. We were right next to the 7 mile bridge so there was a great running path with amazing views of the sunrise. Also we were given a cute little boat to use while we were staying on the property. The location isn’t fancy but it does it’s job. We used the bar-​b-​q on site and also used the stove and saved some money cooking our own dinners. I would love to come back and stay.
