This event was sponsored by Unilocal and hosted by Brian, the owner of Kakao. The private event was a nice gathering of fun chocolate loving Unilocalers and boy were we in for a treat! The tasting started off with a little bit of a lesson on chocolate and how it is made, where it is from, and what kind of work goes into making these delectable treats. You can see all of the great pieces of chocolate and treats that were provided for the event in my pictures. They were all very true to flavor. Not only were they tasty, but they are made from all natural ingredients. Overall it was a great event with chocolate and who wants to say no to that?!

Brian Pelletier, owner of Kakao, MCs a chocolate tasting that is delicious twice over: for the nuggets of knowledge that come out of his mouth and the nuggets of chocolates(and other sweets) that go into yours. Pelletier reviews the manufacturing process involved in creating chocolate from the cocoa tree and pods to the addicting end-product. He also sheds light on how Kakao makes its goods and offers detailed descriptions of the samples about to be consumed.(Describing the confections would take too long to do their delectability justice. Suffice it to say, you’ll be hard-pressed to find any as good in the region.) Along the way, he welcomes general and specific questions and answers them with the authority of an expert in the field. Beyond telling you what you’re eating, he makes subtle pitch for what you should be eating. While taking pride in his company’s dedication to natural over artificial ingredients, Pelletier does not condemn the members in his audience from doubtlessly consuming(and enjoying) many a low-brow bar of «gas station chocolate.» Rather, he asks us to limit such indulgences because of the lack of self-care they betray. He invites us to eat well and eat slowly because doing so is better for us. Pelletier should be praised for not succumbing to the temptation of snootiness as he makes his persuasive case for why we should think differently about the ways we reward ourselves with food. If ever you have the opportunity to attend one of his tastings or are considering organizing one yourself, do so. You will leave more informed about your most beloved treats and happier for eating so many of them.
