Manzanita Fresh Foods

Very expensive IGA affiliate. Good selection of hard goods, beer & wine and natural foods. Fresh items don’t turn over fast enough in his small town on the coast. Lower prices would improve quality with faster turnover.

We love this place, and although we have a place in Cannon Beach we drive to this grocery store every time we are down. It is small but with a huge selection. The deli is fantastic, especially if you want to buy fresh seafood to make at home that night. They have great produce also. Great to wander around, it is fun, small but with everything you need to make a great dinner at home.

I came here an hour before it was closing on a Saturday and the place was really quiet with only two other customers inside. There was one worker, stocking up bottles in the cooler. When I was ready to check out, I didn’t see anyone at the register and saw the cashier stocking up items in the cooler which was right by the open register, and he looked at me and I couldn’t tell if he was ignoring me or didn’t know I was waiting at the register to check out. After two minutes of staring at each other he eventually asked me if I was ready to check out. That was kind of odd.
The place isn’t very big, but they have what you need. They also have a nice selection of local products and organic items. I came inside to get something to go for dinner, and saw that they had a few packaged sandwiches and leftover rotisserie chickens in the deli area. It wasn’t a huge selection of already-​cooked items to take out or the best, but it isn’t like you can find somewhere else to go in this small beach town late at night.

Nice little store. Had everything we needed to make our meals while on vacation. Friendly staff. Easy to get to. Nearby the beach and town. A bit pricey, Still best prices in town.

Good sized place that has pretty much everything you need. Prices are high but that’s expected. Decent selection of items including bread and meats.

a couple years ago they completely redesigned this store… went from a pretty small local grocery store, to a fairly good size store, at least for the area… they carry more stuff it seems, and the inside is a lot nice and roomier… the people that work here have always been friendly and helpful, which is always a good thing… I particularly like their bakery since they have very good doughnuts and I’m a total doughnut junkie… the prices are admittedly on the high side, but then this is a store on the coast, not a store in the big city… all in all a very worthy destination for your grocery needs…

Small town grocery store that has exactly what you need! Great wine selection and an ice cold beer cave. Super friendly folks too. No complaints from me — certainly better than driving to Tillamook to Fred Meyer.

Clean, organized, well lit, easy parking, a great selection of healthy food. If this is what you are looking for, no need to go anywhere else.

Huge selection finally for Manzanita. Nice natural foods selection. Deli items were not hot at 1:30 pm, and found a hair in sealed pasta salad and a hair in a fried chicken strip.

This IGA Fresh Foods recently opened in Manzanita and while the locals might like having a big name store, it really doesn’t fit this quaint little town. The feeling inside is a little bizarre and reminds me of that Twilight Zone where the people found themselves living in what looked like a house but everything was fake and it turned out they were in a zoo! Similarly, this «looks» like a great grocery store.
The produce display is nice, the aisles are wide and the checkout area is nicely designed, there’s a gourmet foods section and restrooms. But upon closer inspection, this store doesn’t really know what it is. The dry goods rows are filled with cheap garbage/​food but in the frozen foods you find quite a bit vegetarian options. Then there’s the gourmet section of imported nuts, cheeses and fruit products where you could make yourself a $ 50 cheese plate. It might be a fluke but my boyfriend bought a bag of high fructose corn syrup red vines and they were rock hard. Inedible! And, as it turned out, expired over a year ago. They kindly refunded our $ 6 but it struck me as odd that a brand new store would have old groceries.
Granted, I’ve only been a couple of times for ice and snacks, but I much prefer the little store in town, Manzanita Grocery, for their fantastic selection, good prices and small town ambience.

Good selection of fresh fish, fresh produce, and beer! They also carry some of Portland’s small companies food: They had strums jam, the garlic ladies olives etc.
I love this place. They usually have oysters to satisfy my craving for a great price.
The parking is convenient and hours are good.

«Fresh Foods!!!» Is that a joke? We passed by this place on our way in to town, so I thought I’d give it a try. I was looking for mussels and some produce, and they were the only place in town with shellfish.
We walked in the store and were floored by the overwhelming scent of PineSol or something like it, which had me worried about what smells they could be trying to cover up. I ordered the mussels I had wanted, but when I asked if they were local, the lady behind the counter had no idea. She said, «I just know that they’re from the USA.» I wasn’t trying to go all locavore on her, I was just trying to figure out how long they had likely been out of the water. She couldn’t even tell me if they were from the east coast or west coast. I bought about ¼ of what I had originally intended to purchase, thinking I’d do a test run on the mystery mussels before I spent any real money.
Next, I went to the produce section. I was picking out a bunch of parsley, but I kept getting slimy pieces of past-​its-​prime green stuff on my hands. The neighboring broccoli had yellowed, slimy bits on it, too, and the lettuce was limp, shriveled and brown. Combined with the overwhelming scent of PineSol, the rotting produce on our fingers pushed us into sensory overload and we had to leave. We paid the three dollars for the mussels and beat feet out of there.
On the walk home we began to think better of eating shellfish from a store selling brown greens, and we tossed the mussels in the trash. Sorry, little store. I really wanted to like you. Maybe we will try again on our next trip.

Great selection for such a small shop!

The best of a limited selection of grocery stores in the area (in my opinion anyway).
On the plus side, they have some locally grown organic vegetables available from farms like Lunasea, which is very nice when the farmers markets are not open. They also bake Labrea bread there, and if you hit the store at the right time you might score a fresh warm loaf – sweet. Meat is OK (we got a chicken that was very tasty roasted) but some of theeat looked like it had been there for a while. Like all shops from Seaside to Tillamook, it’s a good idea to check expiration, sell-​by and packed-​on dates!
It also makes me laugh that you can pick up topsoil in bulk along with your Cheerios…
