White Doe Inn

I found the White Doe Inn while looking for a place for my hubby and I to elope. It could not have been a better experience! With their help, I planned my elopement in two weeks, including hiring a photographer, choosing flowers, getting a horse-​drawn carriage and having my hair done! It was the most intimate, picture perfect day, and I could not be happier with the memories! Thank you to the Woodys for making such a special day so perfect! My only regret is that we have not made it back for a visit!

My husband, daughter, and I stayed here last June for a long weekend while we looked for vendors for her wedding next year. The nature of our trip kept us on the go and we were not able to spend as much time as I would have liked at the White Doe Inn. That being said, every moment that we were able to spend there was a treat. We stayed in the Scuppernong Room, the only room in the house that can accommodate three guests, and it does so quite comfortably. There is a large double bed and a couch that opens into a single. The room was beautifully appointed with top quality linens and towels. We were only able to be present for breakfast on one day of our stay due to early morning appointments. The meal we had was delicious and we enjoyed talking with the inn keepers and the other guests. Coffee and snacks are available throughout the day, and this was very convenient for us. The inn itself is beautiful, with a large front porch and and an inviting garden area. I am hoping to return to the White Doe Inn next spring, after the wedding, at a time when I have the time to more fully enjoy all that it has to offer.

I am a huge fan of B&Bs, and what a surprise when I checked in and the young lady who was showing us the premise and such told us that this B&B was listed in the ‘crème de la crème’ list of B&Bs in the states! I do have to admit, the inn was very charming. My husband and I had reserved the Garrett Room, and this was decorated with Asian antiques and such. The bed was one of those foam beds, and it was somewhat firm. Since this room is on the third floor, it tends to get warm very easily. There was, however, an extra AC unit in place, so that was good. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub for two, and next to it was the fireplace (in which you switch on). There are some bath products, and one of them happened to be bath salts that were nice to dump in the tub and relax in. There were a few noticeable stains on the carpet, but it was overall clean, nonetheless. One thing I was quite iffy about was the fact that my husband found a massive amount of termites by the tub (which was located near the bathroom windows), which he told me afterwards (since I would have had a massive freakout). The breakfast was prepared by a chef that came from a local restaurant, and it was a 4-​course breakfast: pineapple with orange marmalade with shredded mint leaves; grits with some shredded cheese and a spoonful of butter; German eggs (which was like an egg souflee — cheesy, airy, and greatly seasoned); and cream puffs drizzled with chocolate for dessert. The chef was nice. During the evenings, you can get sodas, water, ice, and random baked treats and goods that are set out on the dining table if you happen to get the late-​night munchies. There is a ‘downtown’ Manteo which has random kite shops and little restaurants. It was overall a pleasant stay.

I greatly recommend the Garret room if you like to soak in a jacuzzi. The fireplace next to the tub adds aesthetic qualities that helps you unwind. Breakfast was well done: fresh, simple, and full of flavor. I would also bring a plate of desserts to my room since their pastries are irresistible. The staff was very amiable to all their guests. The only thing I regret is not buying one of their robes they had in the little gift shop. I’ve been trying to find a robe similar to the one they have there, but failed to find one that satisfies my standards. So, if your laying in one of their king size beds and debating if it’s worth purchasing their robe or trying to find one similar; my advice is to buy it as a souvenir that you can use every day!

Second time the WIF and I have stayed here. AC in the rooms during the warmer weather is marginal at best but this place is one of the best Bed and Breakfasts around. Highly recommended…
Great breakfast in the morning… Rooms are really nice… Parking is not that great. Prices are higher but worth the weekend getaway.

My wife and I spent 3 days here and had an awesome time. We frequent B&Bs all over the country and this was one of the best we’ve ever been to. It had all the amenities you could possibly want (down to an incredible single serve coffee machine straight out of Starbucks 2020) without losing too much of the B&B feel. The breakfasts were 4 course affairs and left us stuffed (and we have big appetites). The rooms were all quite nice. We stayed in the Virginia Dare room which I’d imagine could get quite hot in the summer but was PERFECT when we stayed in late November. It’s location is also great for walks to the coast (not beach front though) and through the quaint town of Manteo. They even have guest bikes (including the two seater) that are free to use.
Only potential drawback is that it’s run TOO professionally. What I mean by that is that it’s definitely not a ma and pa B&B…this thing is a business run a little more like a hotel. The person who is the hostess is younger and while very friendly isn’t the owner or the cook. That didn’t bother us but I know some people like their B&Bs to be ‘authentic.’

We have had an enjoyable and very relaxing stay. The owners are so pleasant and ive never had a better nights sleep! This was just hands down a great experience!

I am not a great fan of B and B’s to begin with. With that said I had a tremendous time here at the White Doe. Beth, the inkeeper, was very pleasant and helpful. She was able to book a half day charter at a great price (locals help locals) and then was able to have «my catch» cleaned, wrapped, and in a cooler for me by another local service for $ 20. The place is a little pricey, but the staff was great and I think they saved me money in the long run. I have already re-​booked for October.

We stayed in the Virginia Dare, and it was a treat. Everything was very clean and the staff were very nice. They even took into consideration my dietary needs and amended their 5-​course breakfast for me! It’s nice and close to downtown Manteo and some nice restaurants, yet is far enough away from the beach that you don’t have to deal with tons of crowds.

My first bed and breakfast that i had ever been to and it was definitely more then i could of ever asked for.
My boyfriend at the time had brought me here as a surprise and the whole atmosphere was so relaxed and welcoming. The staff was so sweet, as soon as we got there we were greeted with a warm hello and a tour of the entire old Victorian house. This place was beautiful. I was in awe the entire time i think my boyfriend enjoyed seeing my reaction more then the actual place!
Our room was on the third floor and i think was the biggest in the house. It had a huge king sized bed with a fireplace and also a jacuzzi in the bathroom with another fireplace. I think i took 1,000 pictures of it.
The location was another plus by being only a couple blocks away from the little town that had cute, quaint shops right on the water. And at night when we were looking for something to do, a quick 10 minute ride on the highway lead us to some decent bars to sit and have a drink.
I’m not the morning person but he made sure we didn’t miss the 5-​course breakfast served promptly at 8 outside on the veranda. The food was amazing! It was the first time this northerner ever had grits! Each couple had their own private table and it was set up so pretty. I felt like i should of been wearing a dress!
This place really blew me away.
