Old McGowan’s Feed

Recently moved to the area & feed my dog Taste Of The Wild. They stock it in all sizes and the price is just about what I paid for it before. The staff has always been friendly thus far, so not much to complain about. Oh, and they are open 7 days a week, which makes it awesome with my busy schedule.

Love this place. The workers are always helpful. Even when busy and they can not get to you right away they always acknowledge you so u don’t feel Invisible. If they don’t have something I need. They make sure to start stalking ot. So I only have to do 1 stop for all my animal needs. Love them love them love rgem

I come here for Taste of the Wild dog food. They always help me carry the heavy bag. Plus I think it is important to support your local mom and pop feed/​pet stores. Love it when they get the baby chicks. Has a feed store from the past feeling.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff! They are always happy to help me with food for one of my dogs who experiences allergies. I appreciate them carrying the heavy bags of food to the cash register and to my car. Also, they are generous with dog food samples and dog treat samples. As an aside, I love to visit all the animals when I’m in the store. The staff has even opened cages for me so I could get a closer look or take a photo. I feel welcome here and feel that I am a valued regular customer.

Great place! Glad I found it. Stopped by for a mouse and discovered they had pond equipment and supplies for the pond at my new home. Friendly helpful people. Even got free samples for cat and dog.

This review is guided more towards the pop-​up VIP Pet Care clinic rather than the business itself.
I took my 4 month old puppy here for his Puppy Pack 2 round of shots and I was not please. They gave him his shots and nasal vaccine as well as his exterior «exam» in under 30 seconds. They spent no time checking his heart/​breathing, his weight, his teeth or anything at all.
The first time I took my puppy to the VIP Pet Care clinic was in Blossom Hill down in San Jose and they did all of the above and more! They also gave me a free dose of Trifexis which is a flea/​tick preventative medication. They were awesome and interactive with him and my puppy left happy.
Quick tip: don’t take your pet to this VIP Pet Care. Next time I will be trying Pet Extreme in Livermore.

Amazing customer Service! I was surprised when the Cashier stepped to the side, and grabbed my heavy bag, and walked me to my car. The conversation we had was also unique. I wasn’t in the mood to talk, and he didn’t stop at how are you doing today? Im not sure, but its almost like he knew i was feeling down. Instead, followed through with a quick story that made me laugh, and made my day! The other employee’s were also very helpful. Prompt and courteous service. Small business… With a lot of heart. THANK YOU!

I love this place! It’s super cute and full of good stuff. There’s a wide variety of animal food that you can’t find at all the commercial stores. I get their natural dog food and organic chicken feed as well as parrot food!!! I bought 5 chicks there as well as a mini pot belly piglet!!!

This place is very over priced. I would reccomend people take an extra few minutes to drive to Melvin T. Wheelers feed store, Modesto Feed or even Bay Area Feed if you are headed in the other direction. Been to McGowan’s a few times to get dog food, and a few horse supplies since its down the street from my job. Horse wise they where never stocked with even the simplest items I needed. In 2 situations where I had this happen staff memebers where very friendly and helpful, and let me know they could order whatever I needed. But their mark-​ups are INSANE. Normally a bag of the Horse feed i needed costs me $ 27.50. They quoted me $ 48.00 PER bag for the same feed! So, Back to Wheelers I went! I stopped by again this past Saturday (¹²⁄₂₇) evening Just to get a few bags of shavings that where priced at $ 8.50 each, so back to Wheelers I went, where the same exact shavings are $ 6.00. The young lady that helped me that evening was very rude to me as well. When working a customer service job I don’t find it exceptable to scoff, roll your eyes, and when I say that i’m going elsewhere shrug your shoulders and say «go ahead.» especially when the client is nothing but curteous. I understand we all have our bad days, but jeeesh! All the other employees I have dealt with there are great! But, that young lady… I suspect she won’t have a job there, or keep any other customer service job, for very long.

I come here all the time for supplies, chicken feed and dog food. It’s really not about the great prices but the level of service. The prices are good but I get good advice on animal care as well. The folks here are knowledgable. i like dealing with Frank. He is a pretty good source of information. Not just the regarding the brands of feed they carry but what is in them and where they are processed. When they ring me up for a couple of bags of dog food or whatever else I pick up, they haul it all out to my vehicle and load everything up for me too.
They carry some pretty obscure dog food labels but I tend to gravitate toward the Diamond brand. They have the whole line of Diamond brand products.
They are more looped into the community that any big box pet store in town or our in Tracy. They don’t just carry feed — they have a pretty serious assortment of farm supplies and animals there and they can link you up with local farmers if you are looking for something they wouldn’t have there. The kids love seeing the baby chicks, ducklings and occasional turkeys.
Real locals support local small businesses.

The folks here are very friendly; my two dogs love the food and treats I get for them from here, especially the lamb Stella & Chewy’s line of frozen nuggets and patties. Supplemented with some boiled sweet potatoes and coconut oil, their food has given their coats and skin such shine. They love their meals!

Love the staff at this place. Very knowledgable and helpful. I’ve bought baby chicks from here for Easter. I’ve also purchased many types of pet feed — dog, cat, chicken, fish, etc. there’s also neat knick knacks for sale. Support your local feed store, overall it’s better for your pocket book.

We buy all of our animal feed here… even for our cats and dog. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and SO helpful. They are always kind to my children when I bring them in with me. Many places see multiple young children and cringe. The staff at Old McGowans talk to them, and show the animals to them. It is partly because of them that my kids are now so caring with animals, and want to be good care-​givers to them.

Cool place but the employee that helped me was way to rude! I was told they would mach any other feed store! This little guy assured me that they don’t do it! I had came there a week earlier and i was told they would. So after i told him i had seen Diamond food cheaper at Tractor supply and he laughed and said «no way, we are cheaper» I let him know that i had checked the tractor supply web site earlier. He tried to challenge my word, so he called Tractor supply ON THE SPOT for a price check! TO PROVE ME WRONG! Guess what happened! I WAS RITE! He turned red Like an Idiot! He sure did feel stupid! Thanks to this guyi will not come there anymore!

Excellenct customer service, fast n friendly !!!, the only place I will by my pitbulls dog food from, they have expert knowledge about all pets. And happily answer all my questions or concerns, been shopping here since april 2012 and refuse to go anywhere else, they care about all animals, n show Care and compassion for there customers and there pets !!! Thank u to all the workers. Love the COOPER family :):):)

Great customer service and great products! We love supporting this local business.
We have been buying our organic dog food here for years. Very reasonable prices and you get every 10^th or 15^th bag free!
They also have tack and other odds and ends here. It’s hard to resist the baby chicks and ducklings when you go in so beware!

I’ve been getting a certain special pet food from Old Mcgowens store since I moved to the Sacramento area. After speaking with Mike McGowan, the owner, regarding a transactional matter, I found him to be an honourable, honest and community spirited individual. Bring your business to Old McGowon’s. You won’t be wrong!

I really like this place. Its clean and friendly. I like coming here to buy my chicken feed, ducklings and baby chicks. :-) All chicks and ducklings look clean and well kept and happy!
Prices are reasonable. Business is a small local company. I support local business! :-) When I order my sacks of feed, they load them to my car. :-)

The owners are very friendly, they care about there community and are helpful with finding products that will work for your farm animal or pet. They host both dog training and low cost vaccine clinics on there property. They also carry some antique trinkets, and hand sewn items. This is a family buisness and I have enjoyed visiting and buying from them, even over the large pet store in town.
