Went here last week with friends as we stayed in the area for a few days. This place is a must see if you are in the area. The gardens are free and they are absolutely gorgeous and well tended. I have wanted to come here for ages but my husband is handicapped and that is the one down side — it is NOT accessible for a wheelchair. The roses were incredible, the other flowers were abundant and beautiful and the location, right along the lake, makes it even more appealing. Just wonderful.

When traveling through Wisconsin, me and my boo are always looking for new things to do(that AREN’T bars.) We were walking down on the beach and noticed a sign for the West of the Lake Gardens. The entrance to the Gardens is easily missed, and somewhat tricky on the road, but oh-so-worth it. The admission is FREE, and the gardens are open 10 – 5 every day in-season, weather permitting. They have very clean bathrooms and KILLER views of Lake Michigan. There are 6 acres of backyard gardens on the estate of John and Ruth West, and according to their website, there are more than«900 feet of herbaceous borders with colorful annuals.» There are several benches along the way, and a map of the different sections explaining what types of plants are displayed. It’s a lovely little pit stop, and be sure to take time to stop and smell those roses! But seriously, don’t pick any.
